Charles A. Svendsen Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
Dr. Svendsen was very thorough and articulate about the risks and benefits of the surgery. He is very personable and put me at ease immediately. He has a great sense of humor and treated me with respect and courtesy.
Barb J, my nurse, is also fantastic. Her enthusiasm and concern for her patients is apparent in everything she does. I'd recommend this dynamic duo to everyone.
I went to another surgeon before Dr. Svendsen,[I won't mention the name] and the difference is like night and day. I am very happy with Dr. Svendsen. He is so thoughtful and caring. He has a since of humor too. I felt so comfortable that I was giving him the bussiness on my first visit. He makes sure that he goes over all the risks. I have never had a more injoyable experience as I did with the whole staff at Park Nicollet. I feel very informed they left nothing out.I feel that they are going to be so supportive after the surgery.I would rate Dr. Svendsen and the staff on a scale of 1 to 10 "a 10+". I wish that everyone seeking the surgery could have as good of an experience. It makes it so much easier.
From the very beginning I was total comfortable with Dr. Svendsen. He answered all my questions before I could ask them. He made sure that I knew the risks that were associated with this surgery and that I well informed. My impression of him is still that he cares for every patient that comes into his office and wants them to succeed at this journey. His nurse, Barb is the best person to work with. She is the funniest person I have ever dealt with in a doctor's office and she makes you so comfortable at being at the office that you don't feel like you are at the doctors. There really is nothing that I don't like about him. Future patients should know that he is a younger surgeon and that he is a wonderful surgeon to work with. The office gives you a after surgery book that becomes your "bible" for the surgery and it gives you all the info you would need. They have a very good aftercare program and they want you to succeed. When he talks about the risks of surgery he is very upfront and honest about them. He did not tell me if he has ever lost a patient but, then again I didn't ask and didn't want to know either. I would rate him at a 10. It is great to have both surgical and bedside manner. He came and checked on me twice will I was in the hospital and he made sure that I went home with everything I need to make sure I was health.
Upon first meeting Dr. Svendsen, I instantly liked him. Dr. Svendsen is a confident yet easy going, overall likeable man. He took all of the necessary time to explain the procedure, and it's risks and benefits, and answer any questions I had. He has a wonderful bedside manner that makes you feel instantly at ease. As a surgeon, he seemed quite confident in his knowledge of the procedures and his abilites in performing them. Overall, I would say he is a top notch doctor who truly enjoys his profession. **After having my surgery 1/31/03, I am even more pleased with Dr. Svendsen and his abilities and would highly recommend him.
I meet Dr Svendsen for the first time February 19. Great personality and VERY honest. Doesn't sugar coat anything. Really wants you to understand what the surgery is, the risks, the advantages etc. The whole educational process at this clinic is been great. Taking it all is the key!
My nurse is Barb and she it fantastic. Upfront, honest and really cares about the patients. It helps that she had the surgery done last year!
So far all my experiences have been great. The staff is friendly, curtious and really seems to care.
I will need to have two doctors during my surgery which is comforting.
So far I have no negatives. My surgery is scheduled for July. This was my choice due to commitments. Could have surgery as early as April 14, 2003.
My surgeon and his staff are like my angels. The office was very bright and the staff was great. His nurse Barb was doing a great job with me. I have called her a couple of times ans she never made me feel that I was bugging her.I was very leary about going to a surgeon I only heard about from strangers But am glad I did. They are the best aftercare that I have heard of. I checked on two other surgeons before choosing and this office I feel will be the most supportive.Dr. Svendsen was very up front on the comlications and I was glad for that, he gave me plenty of time to ask questions.
My surgeon is Dr. Svendsen at the Park Nicollet clinic. I have met with him once and found him to be very warm, confident and understanding. He is very proficient with LAP RNY which is a big plus for me. This whole process at Park Nicollet has been a very positive experience. I have a great nurse, Barb, and she responds very quickly to any and all questions that I have. I had previously had started the process with another local surgeon who does not do LAP's and I believe was more inclined to promote VGB's than RNY's. I found that surgeon's process much to drawn out and felt somewhat like a cattle in a large herd.
My meeting with Dr. Svendsen was very informative. Of course, by that time I had been given this website and others to get more information on the surgery and entire process so I was quite informed already by the time that I met him.
I liked my surgeon from our 1st meeting. He was thurough and patient allowing me to ask all the questions that either my husband or I had. He gave us all of the risks as well as all the benefits - a very balanced presentation. He was very laid back which I found calming. He was obviously very knowledgeable and communicated that knowledge easily. He respected how much I had learned from my research and treated me with utmost respect.

Post op - I had a very uneventful surgery and recovery. I felt my surgeons experience played a huge role in that. My post op meeting with him was as good as the pre-op. He was informative and very supportive.

I would and have recommended him to others. One friend is scheduled for late January surgery and she too has liked our surgeon.
