My first impression or Dr. Selwyn was that he was kind and dedicated to helping his patients achieve their weight loss goals with surgery. Dr. Selwyn is very easy to talk with and never seemed rushed or too busy. There really is nothing negative I can say about Dr. Selwyn and would highly reccomend him to anyone considering WLS. His office staff is top notch and also very kind and understanding-my phone calls and questions were always returned within 24 hours. Dr. Selwyn and staff have a great aftercare program to help insure patients have the best success possible-addressing psychological, physical, as well as nutritional needs. Dr. Selwyn addressed the risks of surgery in a professional and straight forward manner both during the informational seminar and my initial consult with plenty of opprotunity to ask questions. I would rate Dr. Selwyn 10 points out of 10. His surgical competence in remarkable and he is the rare sort of doctor that has a bedside manner to match.

I had the LapBand surgery the end of January of 2007. All is well with no problemsrnrnIn answer to questions:rnFirst Impression - Excellent first, last and all in between. My impression never changed.rnOffice staff - it is not possible for any of them to be nicer.rnWhat I liked least about him - That is easy - NOTHING!rnWhat I liked best about him - I personally liked his sense of humor best, but then I knew his surgical skills were top notch.rnFuture patients should know - they are getting the best surgeon for WLS possible.rnDr. Selwyn STRONGLY emphasizes aftercare.- and yes, they have a structured aftercare program. rnDr. Selwyn addressed all the risks of surgery both at intial group meeting, and during first office visit when 1:1. The benefits to my health were also discussed, as was the procedure itself. All questions were answered.rnWhich is better, surgical competence or bedside manner - I know BOTH are important. The mind and body are so closely interwoven. Dr. Selwyn has BOTH.rnrn Dr. Selwyn is not only a very nice man, but is very intelligent, excellent at what he does, and is very approachable. You feel totally comfortable when in his presence, and in asking him questions.rn - Mary M.rnrn

I had the laproscopic lap-band surgery done almost 6 weeks ago. Everyone I have dealt with at St. Michael's Ministry of Health has been awesome. Dr. Selwyn was great. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. He was very nice and explained the process and procedure throughly. He even laughed at my husband's stupid jokes. His nurse Pat scheduled all of my appointments for me which was such a big help because I live 2 hours away. After the surgery he sat down with my family and explained everything. He even called my family doctor to tell them that everything went okay, which they were really impressed with. Both is surgical competence and bedside manner are great. The day of my surgery he came in that night and talked with me. He told me the surgery went as planned and everything was fine. He along with his nurse came in the next day to see how I was feeling and to give me the ok to go home. I would recommend this surgeon to anyone. He is wonderful. I really did have a great experience with this staff. I know there's suppose to be some negative but my experience was great overall.

When I had my first appointment with Calvin I was nervous, due to past experiance with a different surgeon. When Calvin came into the room I went from being nervous to relaxed. Calvin is very sweet and courteous. He explained what he does and what he expects you to do, to help him along with the surgery. Calvin is very informational on all of the care for before and after the surgery. He has a support group that I like to go to, that the Bariatic Coordinator Pat and the Dietician Michelle are there to help you with anything. The staff is there to help for anything and if you have any questions they are there. Trust me i have called alot for questions. For Calvins overall Rating I'd give him a 10+. The surgical competence are both great. Overall my experience with Dr. Selwyn has been excellent. I would recommend him to anyone and trust him, he knows what he is doing.

I could not have asked for a better surgeon. I have never had a Dr. who seems to care more for the health and well being then Dr Selwyn. He truly puts the patient at ease before and after surgery with his down to earth caring approach to treating a patient. God Bless him!

I met Dr Selwyn, when my previously scheduled surgeon relocated out of state. While Dr Gersom is a very excellent surgeon, Dr. Selwyn's conversational style, interest in my goals, and mutual interest in Health Care Business gave us a huge first success.
His office staff is incredible. Every member is professional yet personable, and the pursuit of professional and personal excellence are evident in each.
Future patients should know that he is interested in you as a person as well as a patient. That he only does gastric surgury and after the money. He earns a salary, but nothing compared to surgeons who are compensated by procedure and number of patients. His commitment to your preparation is surpassed only by that toward your hospital care and long-term success.
He offers a structured aftercare program through University of Cincinnati Center for Surgical Weightloss, and includes support groups, dieticians, physical training, and emotional care specialists.
Dr Selwyn addresses each risk openly, letting the patient know how the center approaches each risk, what they do routinely to avoid common complications. His surgical procedure is slightly longer because he overstitches all stapling and double testing for leaks using both air/liquid tests.
The UC Center for Weight Loss is undergoing staffing changes after the departure of founder Dr. Gersom. The new hospital of choice is Christ rather than UC, even though the center continues to operate under the UC name. The change gives patients the most recent technology available, is committed to becoming a Center for Excellence, and the hospital staff are much more personable.

Dr Selwyn and his staff are top notch. I would rate them 10 out of 10. They all go over and above to help and always are there to listen.
The UC program is a program for life, not just the first 6 mos or year. IT is a very comprehensive program.
I admit that since I live in N. KY and West Chester/Mason are quite a drive for me, I do not get to their support group meetings like I would like to.
I truly feel that Dr. Selwyn saved my life and gave my kids their mother back and my hubby his wife.
It was only a dream that I would ever lose weight. Now I have that dream.
Dr. Selwyn, Anne, Dave, Pam and all the rest....Thanks for everything
