Dr Ben-Meir was very friendly and approachable. He was informative and answered all my questions. Dr Ben-Meir appeared very confident. I liked that about him. The only other staff member that I met today was LaTonya. She was friendly as well. Dr Ben-Meir did stress that this surgery is a tool and that it would be up to me to make it work. We discussed the risks of surgery and the aftercare progam. Overall I was extremely pleased with my consultation.
When I first walked into his office I felt comfortable right away. He was very laid back and soft spoken. He explained all of the risks right off the bat, making sure I knew what I was getting into. He was up front and laid it all on the table so to speak. I liked that about him. He told me how many lab surgs he has done and his record is amazing. No leaks no serious complications, no deaths, no punctured organs. He is confident and told me that he is good at what he does. I liked to hear that. Then he asked if I had any questions and I pulled out 2 pages of typed questions.... he laughed. He was happy to see that I was prepared. We went through all of them and he never rushed me. After my consult I knew that he was the right surgeon for me. I feel 100% confident in him. rnHis office staff is... well.... difficult. It has been difficult. Everytime I call I get voice mail and my messages usually take weeks to be returned if ever at all. You need to stay on them and keep calling to get answers. Everyone has been very nice but... it is hard to get through and get answers.
My first impression of Dr. Ben-Meir, was that he is very soft spoken, and has a quiet self- confidence about him. He is very honest, and gentle. I hugely respect him, and would not hesitate to be his patient. I can not say enough good things about him. He takes every precaution for your safety, and I truly did feel safe in his hands. He cares about his patients and wins hands down in my book as a surgeon.
He was very easy to talk to, very knowledgable. He made sure I knew what the procedure did, HOW weight is lost, and any risks or complications. He is chief of laprocopic surgery and does approx 8 of the bariatric surgeries per week. Has no problem converting to open if need arises. As part of a group, I didn't see him much, that I didn't like. He saw me at consultation, breezed by preop, and then at 3 week appt. Other than that, I saw his staff (who are also quite knowledgeable) or other docs. Never saw him postop in hospital. He has a book(let) on pre & post op care, treatment, diet. At 6 months, my incisions are faint, healed well, and I feel good. I feel he's a great doctor with good bedside manner, when you see him, but he's real busy. You can call his staff anytime with concerns, night or day. I feel the hospital staff was somewhat unresponsive to requests and need more training re: obese peoples.
Dr. Ben-Meir is talented, professional, very approachable, and compassionate. He seems to genuinely care about his patients. rnrnOnce I received my approval, I was immediately given a surgery date and scheduled for pre-admission testing. During pre-adm testing, I was given a library of information and education on the procedure I was about to undergo (Lap RNY), as well as how my lifestyle and eating habits would change as a result of the surgery. Thanks to Dr. Ben-Meir and his staff, I knew exactly what to expect, including the risks. Now 4 months out, there have no surprises. When I have had concerns, they were addressed same day. rnrnDue to the rapid weight loss, my gall bladder had to be removed a little less than 3 months out. Dr. Ben-Meir called me personally to talk to me about the surgery (which he performed). I was treated with the same attention and respect as the first surgery. There were some minor issues during the first surgery with regard to sedation. Without having to request it, Dr. Ben-Meir (or perhaps the anesthesiologists) made some adjustments to my sedation process, giving me an even better experience for the second surgery. I cannot thank them enough for that!rnrnI would not hesitate to recommend the Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery and Dr. Ben-Meir to anyone. I have put my life in his hands twice now, and I would do it again tomorrow if I had to. rnrn
Dr. Ben-Meir has been great. I really appreciated the fact that since I live so far from Cleveland that he called me for a pre-surgical visit instead of making me drive there. :)rnHe has been great to answer my questions, and to share some of his own personal feelings about various things to make me feel comfortable. rnSo far I haven't run into anything negative about him yet. Hopefully I won't.
