I met with my surgeon last week for the first time. My first impression when I entered the office is that this is a very structured environment and the staff and doctor know exactly what they are doing. The were friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. Dr. Ben-Meir was great. He explained the procedure in detail and even took me to the room where the fills would be given. They are so very thoughtful that they put scenic photos on the ceiling so that when you have your fill you are not looking at blank tile. How cool is that?
I must say....that I really did like this Surgeon.rnAt first I thought he didnt have much of a personality. What I noticed when he was examineing my stomach was his gentle hands.rnI felt completely comfortble with him and safe.rnI'm happy I went to him for this surgery.rnOverall hes a great guy to go too.
Dr. Ben-Meir presented as competent and confident in his abilites, and it would appear with good reason. The surgery was a success (in as far as I'm not dead), but the single thing I liked the most about Dr. Ben-Meir is that he spent nearly half an hour with my husband while I was in recovery, explaining everything from the procedure to the long-term eating plan. He answered all of my husband's questions, and left him feeling much better about the process than I was able to do.
The first time I met him he seemed very straight and narrow....I am a happy go lucky person and he just didnt seem to be able to joke !!!! But the day of my surgery he came to see me before I went down and was a diffrent person ....and during my stay he was great...joking and even laughing...He knows his stuff and does a good job....He answers all the questions I have and has a great staff....
My first meeting with Dr. Ben-Meir was in February, 2007. My first impression was that he was a kind, self-confident surgeon. He answered my questions, did not rush me and when leaving the office, stated to me that he would take good care of me. After surgery, I saw him twice before leaving the hospital. Every precaution was taken to ensure an uneventful surgery..to reduce complications which could occur. He emphasized aftercare, made certain I understood everything and was ALWAYS VERY PLEASANT! A+ for surgical competence and bedside manner. I would recommend him to anyone contemplating RNY or lapband surgery. rnrnOver all, I felt they have a very good structured program, however since I wound up having to go self pay, I think was a bit of a wrench in the \"normal works\". There were times that I felt my case specialist took too long in addressing my calls, following up on my appeal, and at times almost seemed like she had no clue who I was. I understand there are hundreds of people that come and go through their doors, but let's face it, we want and need to feel that they know about \"my case and my medical history\".rnrnThe PAT went flawlessly as did the group meeting with the dietician. They provided detailed printed materials needed for Pre and Post-op, addressed risks of the surgery and even though you left overwhelmed, you left with a confidence.rnrnWhen I asked the cost of the total package to have this surgery, I was told $4,000 for the surgeon, $15,450 for the hospital which was all inclusive, and a bill for anesthesia approx. $2,000-$4,000 and would be discounted if paid immediately. If any problems were to happen, of course there would be additional charges. 6 weeks after my surgery, bills started rolling in above and beyond those quoted to me, bills for various doctors, and then the mother load of a bill came in for $9,850 ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT I ALREADY PAID! I feel I was grossly misinformed! Now I have to figure out how to come up with $10,000! I am very upset about all of this!rnrnUPDATE 12-12-07 rnrnGREAT NEWS! They screwed up in sending the request for coverage to my insurance. This was for the charges I paid for PRIOR TO SURGERY. Thank goodness.......I now can get on with my life and the holidays without the worry of how I was going to cough up another $10,000.rn
Dr. Ben-Meir was GREAT. Not just with me but with my family too. He explained things to all of us completely, even the risks for someone with progressive memory problems like me. With Dr. Ben-Meir you don't have to settle between surgical skills and bedside manner. He is excellent in both areas. I would recommend him and his office to anyone.
Well my 1st impression of him was that he had a lisp and he kinda made me feel like I was on a job interview. I still kinda feel that way because he never really lightened up. His staff is really great, they are very knowledable and very helpful. The thing that I liked the least about my surgeon was that he was cocky and he kept telling me his stats like he wanted me to kiss his a**. Future patients should know that he looks nothing like his picture and that he really has no sense of humor. Dr.Ben-Meir is really serious and dedicated to after care,he says that just as important to the WLS itself. Yes St.Vincent Charity Hosp. in Clev, Oh has a very structured after care program. Dr.Ben-Meir addressed the risks of surgery almost like he will get his part done right so you better do your part because he doesn't want anyone to ruin his record of success. I would rate him on a scale of 1 to 5 with a 5 for his indepth knowledge and overall ability. If you ask anyone I hope they would say that surgical competence out weighs bedside manner. I don't need a funny or nice doctor if I'am dying or he doesn't know what he's doing. Lastely I really don't have anything negative to say about the surgeon I'am chosing to do my surgery, but I do warn people that if you don't do your research you could get screwed,,and not in a good way;)
