Dr. Carlin, well I do not have anything but wonder things to say about that man. My first impression of his was intimidation because he really is a cutie.. I am in awe of him. He is the only doctor/surgeon that I have ever met who relates so closely to all of his patients. His bedside manner is unlike anything I have ever encountered in my entire life. He takes the time to speak to you, to get to know you, yes, you.. for who you are. He listens to you. He takes personal emails and phone calls from you. He is there for you through the entire process and beyond. He is a rarity in his field. rnrnHe will walk you through the entire WLS process and determine if it is right and you are ready. He is articulate in his explanations and understandings of his clear expectations of what he wants from you and for you. His aftercare program is structured. He address all and any risks of surgery. rnrnI would rate Dr. C. with a rating that would not and could not ever hit a scale. There is not a number that would justify who he is and how he treats his patients. rnrnHis surgical competence is well renowned. His bedside manner is beyond anyone's expectations. rnrnHe would always be my first and only choice.
I must admit that I was very nervous and skeptical before meeting him. Once I met him I was absolutely comfortable from day one. His office staff were very cooperative and worked well with him. I have absolutely nothing negative to say abou him what so ever. He was absolutely awesome. Very personal and clearly informed me of all risks and concerns. He does have a structured aftercare program, and the nutritionist kept up with me daily for quite a while after surgery. He literally held my hand every step of the way, which made me more comfortable. I would have to honestly say that on a scale of 1 to 10, he soars high above 10. Both his surgical competence and bedside manner were great. Of the many doctors that I have seen and continue to see, Dr. Carlin is and will always be my favorite.
My first impression of Dr. Carlin was he was very professional, he had a genuine concern for me as a person. I found his staff to be very imformative and pulled no punches. The surgery was explained very well and nothing was left to the imagination. I am looking forward to working will both Dr. Carlin and his staff. I am putting my life into his hands without hesitation.
I have only met with him once so far for my initial consult, but I was absolutely blown away! I am looking forward to seeing him again to book the date! I liked him from the minute he walked into the room! He is personable, humorous, and does not make you feel stupid or belittle you! He genuinely cares, and he is serious about your health! I cannot WAIT to have him as a surgeon! His words to me were 'you are a perfect candidate, and I am excited to work with you to get your life back!\" WOW! He even held my hand as I had my little cry! I have heard nothing but GREAT things about him! I CANNOT WAIT! I know DR CARLIN is the man to work on me...hands down!
When I had my first visit with Dr. Carlin, I will admit I was not sure what to expect. When I arrived at the clinic for my appointment, I was asked to fill out several forms including a list of what I had eaten over the last 24 hours. My fiance, Bryan, was very adamant about my being truthful not only with the doctor but myself as well. When Dr. Carlin took a look at my list, he told me very simply that my behavior and habits had to change. I have a very fast-paced job which usually means I eat on the go and eat out quite a bit. That just was not going to cut it anymore, and he would not let me make excuses. He was very unforgiving, and told me expected to see some changes if I wanted to be successful. From that very moment, I knew he was the right person for me. I appreciated how direct he was about my surgery and outcome, and I made a decision to be very dilligent in making some serious life changes. I was very informed about the surgery and we discussed many aspects of not only the surgery but the long term outcomes. I would consider myself extremely hands on when it comes to my health care especially given the seriousness of this procedure, so I wanted to know what research showed about people having this surgery that were still alive well into their 70's and 80's. The whole reason I am doing this is so I can live longer, so I want to know how those folks are doing. He was very sensitive to my questions and concerns, and he answered them honestly and what he did not have information on at that time he found out for me and we discussed at my follow up visit. I also did a search for Dr. Carlin and found that he was doing research about Vitamin D deficiency in patients of gastric bypass surgery. This was significant to me because my blood work showed such deficiencies. I have an appreciation for the science of all of this so it was important and he was very willing to share this information. I appreciated that he took time with me, but I also think it helped that I was so well informed on my own. As I prepare, I have the utmost confidence in him and his staff. Everyone has a wonderful attitude and they are very helpful and knowledgeable. I really liked that.
Dr. Carlin is very thurough, and very personable. I have not yet had my surgery but am not concerned in the least about his abilities. The staff at his office has been wonderful. Very professional, very prompt. After care is a very important part of bariatric surgery. I have heard it takes approximately 3 weeks to instill a permenant change in oneself and Dr. Carlin and his staff are there every step of the way. Henry Ford has a very successful program in place that I am excited about participating in. The last step before signing consent for the procedure is a discussion of the risks of surgery both during surgery and after followed by a test. Really....a test. But don't worry the test itself is almost insulting. Just one more confirmation that you have given the procedure enough consideration.
Both my husband and I were totally at ease with Dr Carlin. I liked his upbeat attitude, first words were....\"so are you excited\".....and of course my answer was YES!!! Everyone we have dealt with so far in the HFHS has been positive. I will update, as time goes on, about the rest of my experience.
