Anthony Terracina Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS

Dr. Terracina has changed my life. I owe him so much. Dr. Terracina and the surgical team took great care of me during surgery. After surgery, Dr. Terracina was there in the morning checking up on me and he has a great bedside manner. I think he is the sweetest doctor that I have ever met!! I just want to thank him for giving me a second chance at life and I thank him and God for helping me accomplish that! Thank you Dr. Terracina for everything you have done for me!!! I Love everything about Dr. Terracina and his staff. they make you feel welcome from day one. And Dr. Terrecina is just as cute as can me and has wonderful bedside manners. He really listens to you when you have concerns and he makes you feel so comfortable that when you leave his office you are no longer concerned. on a scale of 1-10 Dr. Terrecina and his staff are a 10+++++
and he has a wonderful nutritionist working for him she is so sweet.

My first impression of Dr. Terracina was that I thought that he was very nice and very well-informed. His other patients have nothing but good things to say about him. I usually don't go to male doctors (no offense, just a personal preference) but I think that I'll feel the same way his other patients feel about him. I'm looking forward to working with him.

When I first met Dr Terracina I was very impressed. He seemed to be very knowledgable about the surgery and very confident. His office staff was awesome. I bugged them so often I just knew they would lose my paperwork to get rid of me but they never seemed to get annoyed they were always friendly and ready to help.

Dr Terracina was very impressive. One of the things that helped me decide to do this was the extremely structured pre surgery requirements and structured after care. I wasn't going to have surgery as a quick fix. These people wanted to help me improve my life. When I finally met him one on one he remembered me from the seminar and was very friendly. He even payed me a compliment which made my day. His staff during the day of surgery was awesome. Which I think is a direct result of him. I look forward to a long relationship with him as I develop into a healthier person.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Terracina, his office staff, and Sentara Careplex. My life was in chaos because of severe diabetes, hypertension, and weigh gain. Dr. Terracina explains in great detail to his patients and their families. He answered any question I asked. Since my surgery (September 20, 2005), he and his office staff have been there for me. I met Dr. Terracina for the first time when I attended the WLS workshop he spoke at in Sep 04. He covered all aspects and types of bariatric surgery. Since it was the first of it's kind for Lapband he provided ground breaking information for most of the worshop participant's. He was honest with his answers about risks and the procedures themselves. However, I wanted to know more about the man himself. I asked him why he decided to work in the bariatric field. His answer impressed me. He said that it is the only field in medicine that when you fix the weight problem that it also helps fix or minimize the effects of other medical issues such as sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc. He also stated that the patients in this area were the most rewarding to work with. During the time after the workshop and prior to the surgery the office staff worked diligently for me with the insurance company. When more documentation was needed they called right away and worked with me to get it. This was especially true when documents were needed from my family practice doctor, psychologist, etc. Once my health insurance company approved my surgery in Dec 04 I was scheduled for Jan 7, 2005 at Sentara General hospital. This was only 3 weeks from my surgery and I still needed to attend the various other meetings, workshops, and appointments. Even though this was the Christmas and New Year holiday season they helped me get the appointment times set up so I would be better prepared for surgery and my new life style. Throughout this pre-operative time the staff and Dr. Terracina was supportive, forthright, and even humorous. They were always smiling. The morning of surgery Dr. terracina, the anethesiologist, and the surgical staff were great. They put me at ease. Surgery took about 1 hour. I was in the hospital overnight. The next morning a floroscope test was done to see if the band was in place and working as it should. Once that was done I was allowed to go home. I spent 1 week out from work after surgery. The following week I opted to go back to work half days. Dr. Terracina supported that decision and informed my employer. After those 2 weeks I was back to work full time. Since my surgery Dr. Terracina has been even more supportive during our monthly visits. Adjustments were done within the office. He and I discussed and agreed on my goals for weight loss and even when I didn't lose (I gained 1 pound) he said it was alright because I had been on vacation and that usually happened. I see him approximately every 4-5 weeks since the surgery and that works well for me. When he had difficulties doing my last adjustment (was unable to get the needle inserted into the port within a reasonable time)he opted to do the procedure under floroscope at the hospital. The time for the test was early enough to get me back to work on time. During this whole time I have felt at ease with the staff and Dr. Terracina and feel I can call when I need to and they will respond right away. I think it is so important that you like your doctor and feel confident in both his skills as a surgeon and in his bedside manner skills. I feel this with Dr. Terracina. Of course these are my own experiences and opinions.

I have nothing but excellent things to say about Dr. Terracina. My first impression was of a confident, knowledgable doctor. In the hospital, prior to surgery, he spent a great deal of time at the bedside, answering questions and talking. I knew he was going out of town right after my surgery, but was followed up by his partner. Dr Terracina called me from his vacation and left me his cell phone number in case I needed to talk to him. How many doctors would do that, I wonder?

He did the surgery laparscopically and the incisions look wonderful. I didn't even have bruising to speak of (and I had only stopped my daily aspirin a month prior to surgery).

His office staff is extremely friendly and helpful. After one or two visits, they know you and greet you by name. He has pre-care in place as well as a great aftercare program. Your fees include follow-up for a year, three visits with a nutritionists and many other things.

I would highly recommend him to anyone as well as the hospital staff at Sentara Hampton. They have a little bariatric wing and the nurses are awesome!

Dr. Terracina is very knowledgable and experienced. He moved to Hampton Roads to continue his successful bariatric surgery practice frim Florida. He moved from Florida because BCBS stopped providing coverage for WLS. Dr. Terracina makes sure his patients are fully educated about every dimension of WLS including the statistics (He does a wonderful PowerPoint at the educational seminar). I had no reservations whatsoever about Dr. Terracina performing my surgery. He is thorough and caring!
