Dr. Terracina is a wonderfully compassionate, and seemingly very competent surgeon! He has only gotten more caring as time has passed. His office staff got really tired of me calling! They have only been doing the surgery about a year, so when we started, they didn't know all of the stuff (psych eval, nutritionist appt, extensive diet history). This caused a greater delay in insurance approval. Future patients should know that Dr. Terracina's office now requires you see your PCP, have a psych eval, and see a nutrionist before being given an appointment. I believe Dr. Terracina is emphasizing aftercare more and more. As I mentioned, this is a relatively new procedure for his office and they seem to be learning as they go. Dr. Terracina was very, very open about the risks of surgery. He spent so much time with my husband and myself. Because I was a member of the OSSG support group, and because I had been researching so avidly, I knew a great deal about the surgery. There were a couple of things I had read that he hadn't heard, and he had no problem with that. He actually checked into those things and has been able to answer all our questions. Some doctor's are easily offended if their patients even hint there is something the doctor does not know. I believe surgical competence is most important, but I wouldn't stay with a doctor that was rude, or didn't understand my mo. Dr. Terracina is a small guy, but really seems to get morbid obesity. When my husband was on the table, ready to go into surgery, all medicated and IV'd, he changed his mind for the time being. Dr. T came in, talked to Mark, and was completely supportive when Mark said, "I've got to go home." There was nothing negative or condescending. I know there is nothing real negative in this narrative, but when a doctor is ready to start surgery, and is nothing but kind and compassionate as the patient walks out the door, I can't find anything negative to say about that doctor!
Dr. Terracina is a fantastic surgeon with a very good reputation around town. This was proven to me by his bedside manner, attention to detail, and over all respect that he shows his patients and the nursing staff that he works with. And to top that all off, LADIES, he is not bad on the eyes either.
My first impression of Dr Terracina was very impressive. He is the kindest man. Dr Terracina has been so patient. I have had to make several phone calls to his office & have always received a response quickly. His office staff has always been so kind & concerned. Dr Terracina had me go to see a Nutritionist that is located at the local hospital & also to a psychological evaluation to make sure that I was really ready for this. Dr Terracina was very open about all risks & benefits. I wouldn't trade anything for being fortunate enough to have him as my surgeon. I had spoken to several staff members at the hospital & was told numerous times that he would be the surgeon for them should they need it. He's very meticulous & does a wonderful job. I highly recommend Dr Terracina. He not only has competence as a surgeon, but is very caring about my concerns.
