I called the number to Dr. Aguirre's office and was suprised (No, shocked) to speak with him directly!! He asked me to call back at a specified time, which I did, and he answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. Since that time I have e-mailed him and again, was very satisfied with my response.

If I HAD to say something negative about Dr. Aguirre, it would be about the LONG waiting list that WE ALL have created!! This tells me that he is a very compident, trusted surgeon, and I am happy to say that I am on his schedule for January 2004.

I have only had contact via email at this point. Dr Aguirre was very prompt in emailing me back with a date and information on costs. He asked for my home number so I expect that he will call for more information.

I've found Dr. Aguirre to be a very capable, humble, gratious man. He was very carefull with me and performed an exceptional effective surgery. His post surgery directions have been simple and logical. It's comforting to know that if i have a problem, I can call him on his cell phone and speak to him personally.
I was impressed with his skill, honesty, experience and bedside manner.
I'm most impressed with the results so far. My blood pressure is normal (128/78) without meds. My sleep apnea as gone, no more CPAP.

Dr. Aguirre is a very kind and caring man. I have emailed back and forth with him and will meet him the day before my surgery. His new email address is [email protected]. He's highly recommended by his Post-Op Patients. I'm looking forward to meeting him on Sept 8th, 2003!!

My first impression is that he is a person that really cares and he wants what is the best for you. He will work with you any way he can. As time has past, I have grew fonder of him just by telephone communication. He is one of the easiest doctors to talk to compared to the ones here in the U.S. I will update later as things progress.

I have only talked to him on the telephone one time and have e-mailed him a couple of times. Dr. A. seems very nice, quick to answer any of the questions. I am looking forward to meeting him. I will update whenever I get back from having the surgery. Say a prayer for me!

Dr. Alejandro Aguirre is an educated, experienced and kind surgeon. He personally answers email questions (usually within 24 hours. (Wow!)
Over time, I only became more fond and trusting of him and his staff. They are all professionals, kind, and patient. Also, most of the nurses do not speak English. This was not a problem for me, as they do understand words like "pain." Also, being in Mexico, sanitation isn't as strict. Nothing at the hospital felt dirty, just not like the U.S.
The least thing I like about him, is that he works too hard. Dr. Aguirre (in Aug 2003) also works in two different Emergency Rooms. I don't know how he balances surgery with the rest of his life, but somehow he does it! (Maybe it's the carrot juice!)
Future patients whould know that Dr. Aguirre will answer any questions you have, however, the better prepared you are, the more comfortable you'll be. He expects you to have done your research and have a pretty good understanding of post-op nutritional concerns.
Overall, I would give Dr. Aguirre and his staff top ratings. I only wish I could have a PCP like him! His surgerical competence appears to be better than many U.S. surgeons, and his bedside manner is like a friend who want to see you happy!

First impression: Prompt, courteous, helpful.
Dr. Aguirre asked very few questions before agreeing to a surgery date. I found this odd since mine is a revisionary procedure from 5 year-old VBG to RNY. Obtaining travel and payment information required several follow-up calls and finally just settled on a 3 minute confirmatory phone contact. Almost all my information about the good doctor, his staff, facilities, procedure, travel, cost, you-name-it, came from current and former patients of Aguirre who posted on WLS.
Cost: $7,900. Apparently I require "extra work." Yeah, no kidding. I'm 5'3", 220 lbs, in good health, but the prior VBG necessitate some additional surgical work. No one knows I'm doing this, in fact,Kris Collins is a pseudonym -- has a nice ring to it don't you think? Of course, if I lose 120 pounds and end up looking beautiful and waifish, I'll own my own name and write a tell-all book.

My thanks to those of your who shared your experience (Latrisha, Virginia, etc).

Dr. Aguirre is very friendly and ready to help. He wasn't bothered that I called him on his cell phone when he was at his house. He just asked that I call back later when he was in his office so he could look at his calendar for scheduling. Speaks great English with no problem. I did call later and spoke first to his receptionist, also very nice, then to Dr. A again. He answered all my questions and didn't rush to get off the phone. I can't wait to meet him in person.
