Alejandro Aguirre Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

After a year of fighting insurance companies and dealing with a very uncooperative surgeon and incompetant nurses that were not willing to help me in my fight with the insurance companies, I decided to self pay and switch surgeons. I had seen comments regarding Dr. Aguirre on the message board and in Latrisha Nickle's profile. I was skeptical at first because of him being in Mexico. I guess we American's have a picture of chop shops in our heads? Well, NOT so. When it comes to Dr. Aguirre, I am so very confident of not only his surgical abilities, but also the hospital he practices in and his personality is much better than any of the doctor's I have ever met in the states. I asked him VERY in depth questions about my stay, recovery, pre-op and post-op procedures. All of his answers were EXACTLY the same as my surgeon in Washington, DC, who I might add has only been doing gastric bypass for 1 1/2 years. Dr. Aguirre has been doing these surgeries for 14 years. But yet people think that my American doctor is more qualified?? I think not. Anyway, off my high horse! I confirmed with Dr. Aguirre today that my surgery date will be May 2, 2003. The first day of the rest of my "new" life. I'M SO EXCITED!! UPDATE: Dr. Aguirre and his staff were WONDERFUL. He is very warm and caring and you can see that everytime he comes to see you! I'm so glad I picked Dr. Aguirre! He's an angel.

Dr. Aguirre was very nice and honest. The staff was friendly, even though I couldn't understand what they were saying. He is the only Doctor that I have ever met, who willingly gives out his cell phone number. I called him several times at odd hours, and he always spoke friendly towards me.

He was honest in telling me that the surgery was not magic, and that I still have to eat at my meal times and not snack in between, and also that I have to excercise.

I have not spoken with him yet, but I e-mailed him and he e-mailed me back within the hour. He is very informative. I have heard wonderful things about him. I will post more after I meet him.

5/11/03 I am 4weeks post op and have lost over 30lbs I just wanted to let you all know that are planning to use Dr. Aguirre that he is the best he is wonderful I feel great. I have been up walking and back to normal since one week after surgery. I have spoke with him since surgery and he still has the same care for me today as he did then.Happy mothers day to all.

I haven't personally met with Dr. Aguirre, I have only spoken to him through e-mail. But he seems to be a very kind person, and very willing to help.

Update: Dr. Aguirre is not currently a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery even though it does state that on his website.
My Mom emailed him asking all sorts of questions. He said he is thinking about paying again. ?? I am assuming he once was but let it lapse? but now all the attention we have given him from the states, he must want to get his name in there again. He definitely is with the International Society though.
He was very forthright with my Mom. He told her he has had one mortality in almost 500 surgeries but did not give any details. He talked about his children and wife.
Some of the stories I have read are mind boggling. Is this man for real. He just seems like such a kind soul. I am very excited to meet him. Only 19 more days!!

I have not meet Dr. Aguirre and i wont until i go down for the surgery but i can say this for him he does respond you your emails promptly and has answered all me questiosns. and no matter how much ive studied this subject i still had a couple of questions for him and he answered then all for me. I do wish i could meet him before "D" day but that ok. over all i would recommend him so far.

OMG Dr Aguirre is the best. I feel like I am his only patient. When I e-mail him he replies that same day. I anwsers all my questions without rushing me. I am so to have found him.

3-17-03 I have spoken to Dr. Aguirre on the Telephone and through e-mails several times. My date is 3-27-03 and I cannot say enough about Dr.Aguirre. He REALLY loves what he's doing! you can hear it in his voice. He is the sweetest Dr. I have ever come into to contact with, and I thank God everyday for giving me the blessing of finding him! I will always try to give back as much as I can for this blessing, and promise to always guide self-payer's to this wonderful surgeon so they can have the dream they have given up on.
4-4-03. I met Dr.Aguirre on 3-26-03 for the first time at his office. I did not have to wait to be seen. He came out in the waiting room and was said he was so happy to finally meet me and had been waiting to meet me in person. He has a very warm and caring attitude.(and very attractive). After the first day with him with pre-op testing we had already formed a more of a friendship relationship as well. He is SUPER! All of his staff was very friendly, although most of them couldn't speak English, but you could tell just by the way they treated you they were very nice. There was not even one thing that I didn't like about DR.Aguirre or his staff. He does give a structured aftercare program and does want you to do follow up care with your PCP, and is more than willing to use e-mail's or the telephone to correspond with your PCP if needed. He will not perform the surgery on you if you do not trust him, he really belives for it to be a success you need to have complete trust in his skills as a Surgeon. I would rate Dr.Aguirre a 10+, I LOVED HIM!!!!!!!!!! He has a great bedside manner, and is loaded with surgical competence. I could not have found a better Dr., Than Dr.Aguirre if I could have ordered one.

I loved talking to him, I'am going!!!!!!

From what I have seen so far, I am completely confident in my decision to go to Dr. Aguirre
