when i first got back i blamed him for all the crazy stuff that i was feeling and all that happened to me, but i have come to realize that i had a hard time due to some of the things that i did. i would do it again, but as soon as i got out of the hosp. i would go back to san diego. in fact i recommended him to a girl at my support group and she is going to contact him.
I have spoken with Dr. Aguirre by phone to schedule surgery based on the glowing recommendations of other self-pay patients. I expect to have at least several more contacts with him before my scheduled date of 2/20/04.
Post Surgery: Dr. Aguirre is a very empathetic individual and I got the feeling that he does this surgery because he knows that it makes a difference in people's lives. He is easy to talk to, comfortable to be around, and quite good looking! He is relatively soft-spoken but his eyes are very expressive. When I was being discharged, my mother told him "Thank you, you have given her extra years of life.", his eyes misted up and he could hardly talk. I feel that even if I could have afforded to get the surgery done in the US, I could never have found a doctor who was more committed or more skillful than Dr. Aguirre. During hospitalization I was kept pain free and comfortable by the staff. All in all, I would grade the experience A+.
Dr. Alejandro Aguirre performed my surgery in November of 2002. I was very impressed with his concern for me. His bedside manner is wonderful. I have never felt so comfortable with any surgeon before. He is a very skilled surgeon and I was very lucky to have found him. The care I received at the clinic, by the nurses, by Dr Gomez and Dr Estrella was very professional and caring. I have no regrets and would do it again.
Prior to surgery, my only communication with Dr. Aguirre was by email. He responded within 24 hours each time. My surgery was January 21, 2004, and I believe I was in good hands. However, if you have ANY questions, ask them while you're in the hospital, because I have not had phone calls nor emails returned by Dr. Aguirre once I was discharged. It's been more than disappointing, but I'm grateful that the surgery went well and that I'm resourceful enough to get answers to my questions from the internet, etc. I know everyone on this list LOVES Dr. Aguirre, and while I respect the work he does, his lack of communication following surgery is a real disappointment.
