Dr. Schuricht is AWESOME! He is VERY upfront about what he wants for you with this surgery, the potential complications and the realistic results that we will expect, he isnt cut happy! Chrissy, is a baby doll! She answered ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I hit her with! I call her MORE then her husband I think...lol I was approved the first time that the paperwork was submitted a little late but hey it wasnt an effort at all! After the "group" meeting with Dr. Schuricht we met with a dietician as a group and then she met with each of us one on one. After that we met with Dr. Schuricht for a more detailed medical history. There is a support group meeting once per month which is VERY VERY good to attened! Overall I found Dr. Schuricht and his staff to be friendly, courteous, caring and extremely professional.
I would and have recomended people to him in a heartbeat!
I liked him the minute he opened his mouth and was discussing all we needed to know about having the surgery.
One of them who I beleive was the receptionist was pleasant, but the other members in the office do not get right back to you when leaving a message.
That he is a no nonsense doctor, but very personalible.
My first impression of Dr. Schuricht was that he was very friendly and down to earth, with a great sense of humor. Dr. Schuricht is very knowledgeable and confident, which has made me more comfortable with my decision to have the gastric bypass. At this point, I have met with him only once...and there was not one thing that I wasn't pleased with. Future patients should be aware that Dr. Schuricht is very blunt, so to speak. He lets you know right from the start that for ultimate weight loss you must follow his instructions. He does emphasize aftercare, and although I haven't had my surgery yet, a friend says that Dr. Schuricht returns calls quite fast (one of the staff members was a little slow in returning my call to set up my date, but all in all...so far so good)!
As all surgeries have their risks, Dr. Schuricht explained the added risks of having this weight loss surgery. He left nothing unsaid. I actually walked out of there feeling better about myself...and I haven't even had the surgery yet!!!
To be a great surgeon I would think that his competence and his bedside manner would go hand in hand. At this time and in my opinion, I would rate Dr. Schuricht a perfect "10."
DR. SCHURICHT IS A WELL MANNERED PHYSICIAN WHO HAS GREAT BEDSIDE MANNERS. MY DECISION WAS BASED ON THE FACT THAT DR. SCHURICHT HAS BEEN DOING SURGERY ON THE STOMACH AREA FOR MANY YEARS, WHICH MEANT HE KNEW THE AREA OF THE GASTRIC BYPASS. HIS OFFICE STAFF WAS OK.
I DID NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT PENNSYLVANIA HOSPITAL WAS A TEACHING HOSPITAL AND I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THIS. FUTURE PATIENTS SHOULD KNOW THAT IF YOU HAVE SURGERY AT PENNSYLVANIA HOSPITAL, THE RESIDENT PHYSICIANS WILL HAVE HANDS ON DURING YOUR SURGERY.
DR. SCHURICHT HAS A DECENT AFTERCARE PROGRAM FOR UP TO FIVE YEARS. I REALLY THOUGHT HIS BEDSIDE MANNERS WAS GREAT, I WOULD RATE HIM A 6.
My first impression was; He is very sure and confident in himself. Very nice demeanor, friendly, imformative, answered all questions thoroughly. Looks just like Billy Joel. My first meeting with him was a information meeting with me and four other prospective patients. After he was done explaing the procedure and all that (about 90-120 mins.); a dietician talked to us for about 30 mins. The dietician was a representative of the hosp. I didn't care for her. After the dietician, the doctor met with each of us; one on one.
Dr. Schuricht was quite personable and seemed to care about each patient as a person. He was very complete in his explanation about the surgery, giving the bad and the good.
His office staff are quite nice and very professional.
I really liked Dr. Schuricht. I would have liked one more visit with him before surgery, but he talked to me on the phone when I had a question that the office people couldn't handle.
I'll rate him after I have the surgery this coming Monday, Feb. 10, 2003!
I had my surgery, and I have the highest admiration for Dr. Schuricht! He really does care. He came around to see me in the hospital and his surgical team checked me at least twice a day!
I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH DR. SCHURICHT. I FELT LIKE HE GAVE ME ALL OF HIS ATTENTION AT THE INITIAL CONSULTATION. THERE WERE 4 OF US THERE AND HE DIDN'T MIND ANSWERING ANY QUESTIONS I HAD. HIS STAFF IS REALLY HELPFUL ESPECIALLY GIL.
DR SCHURICHT ADDRESSED EVERY ISSUE CONCERNING THIS SURGERY. HE WENT INTO DETAIL ABOUT BOTH THE PROS AND CONS OF THE SURGERY. I AM CONFIDENT THAT HE WILL BE JUST AS ATTENTIVE AFTER THE SURGERY AS HE HAS BEEN THUS FAR.
:) As a nurse I am acutely aware of the way things are done. Allen Schuricht was recommended from a friend of mine, whose brother in law did have complications from the surgery. However, after speaking to him, he said that even with the complications, he would have still had the surgery (even with all the complications) and Dr. Schruricht would still be the one and only surgeon to do it. I went to his group seminar on the surgery and was impressed immediately. He was friendly, up front, and no nonsense. He did not try to sell the surgery and was very keen on discouraging anyone in the room from doing it if they were not sure. His talk was strictly educational and he was willing to take questions at any time. Afterward, we met with him one on one. He was very straightforward. He told me that I could probably be done laproscopically, but he always reserved the right to switch to an open procedure if necessary. On the day of the surgery, he came right to the OR holding area to chat and make me comfortable. Post op he checked in with me frequently to see how I was doing. He was glad I was walking the halls the next morning. After 3 days post op he and his interns and residents approached me with the option of discharge. He made that my decision. His office staff gave me a post op appointment in just 3 days (to get the drain removed and to see how I was doing). Both his surgical competence and his bedside manner are astronomical. He doesn't just pretend to care, he really does. Thanks Dr. Schuricht...you made a scared patient comfortable and less afraid.
My first impresssion was great. Although he did not have a weight problem, he showed great empathly towards his patients. He has continued with this impression, and I have referred at least 5 patients who have had the procedure. His office staff is very busy, as they do other types of surgery as well, but this is typical of all medical officies these days. Although he follows up with patienrs, there is no aftercare concerning things such as blood work, or to monitor other medical conditions (I had diabetis, and high blood pressure) or to monitor b12, protein, iron ect. However, I feel most people are better off letting their own physician, take over in these areas right after the surgery. Most surgeons should not be monitoring my blood sugar or making decisions about medication changes. He simply does not know you that well, or have the experience in these areas. My main concern was finding a good surgeon, who did the procedure well. I was very happy with my personal physician, and he had no problem working with me right after the surgery. Dr. Schurichts bedside manner is great and so are his surgical skills. The only negative was a better network be available, other than the hospital nutrition personell.
