On Monday, July 28, 2014, Dr. Alan Leslie Schurict performed a gastric sleeve on me at Pennsylvania Hospital where I weighed 343 pounds (my high weight was 363 pounds) and over two years later I am maintaining 142 pounds lost and weigh 221 pounds! Thanks Dr. Schuricht and Penn Bariatric Medicine! Thanks to the following: Dr. Sara Slattery and the team from Penn Medicine Fitness Now; Beth Marks, www.GetFitNowNJ.com and Kennedy Health Systems Bariatric Fitness; Personal trainers from the YMCA of Burlington and Camden County! I am also thankful today to my beautiful wife, Jan and my great kids Liz and Matt!

Dr. Schuricht was amazing! Every visit with him was pleasant and relaxed. The only issue was his scheduling staff I really had to stay on top of them to get my surgery date but once I did it was smooth sailing. Dr. Schuricht came to see me before surgery spoke to my husband as soon as surgery was over and then came to see me the next day. I had a small problem with back spasms after surgery which is apparently not common and the residents weren't helpful about it but the second Dr. Schuricht found out about it he order medicine to help relax the spasms and it's been smooth sailing ever since. I'm a week post op today and I feel good, sore but not hurting. I'm able to do a little more each day and I'm excited to start feeling my clothing get loose!!
Dr. Schuricht was wonderful! When I had my consultation, he presented an in depth informational meeting about all aspects of the surgery that was about 2 hours long. He was very informative and made sure that he was available to answer any questions. I left there with a great deal of knowledge and clarification after my own research on the subject. I often had questions and the program was set up in a way that I was able to always reach someone to seek clarification and what was more refreshing was leaving messages and people actually returning your calls. I have had nothing but positive results from this surgery. He is wonderful, professional and has really made a difference in my life. I would recommend Dr. Schuricht and the Pennsylvania Hospital to any body in the Philadelphia area that is interested in surgery.

My daughter and I went to the first required seminar and heard all that was needed of us and filled out forms. When we went we had another docotr in mind and after we heard of them all we changed our minds that night. We thus far have been very happy with our choice of change. Dr Schuricht is a very nice man and has only your best interest in heart. If you like a doctor that makes jokes but is serious, who is a bit brasive in his way he speaks but makes more sense then any one I have spoken to then he is the one for you. He has five rules he calls Dr Schuricht's 5 commandments and if you follow them you will do just fine but if you faulter then you will or could have problems. I can't wait to go through this with the doctor and recieve a new chance at life with his help. I think if you choose him you won't be sorry.
My first impression of Dr. Schuricht was I love this man!!! He made me feel like if I stuck with him, I could not go wrong, and he has lived up to all my expectations and more!! My impression hasn't changed...I love him more now. He feels like a member of the family. His staff is just as awesome. They have been so helpful. I walk in the office and feel like I have walked into a room full of old friends. I don't like that I can't spend more one on one time with Dr. Schuricht, there is so much I would like to sit and talk about since I have had the surgery. What patients should know about him is that he is very upfront, sugar is the enemy so he doesn't sugar coat anything. No kid gloves here. My hospital experience was less than stellar, a doctor who I can not remember his name came in with residents and made me feel like a piece of meet or a body in the morgue. He ripped of bandages and hurt me and showed not a bit of anything, I got more sympathy from the residents. Then my sleep apnea mask was thrown out, oh and the worst was a resident who saw my name on the patient list and she knew my ex-employers told everyone she knew I had the surgery, not that I am ashamed, but you don't want to be pumping gas and here someone shout across the parking lot, you up already, can I see your scars? But, they have nothing to do with Dr. Schuricht. Aftercare was an important factor to your success. He tells you that the surgery is just a tool and it really is. You learn that so quickly, it almost becomes your montra! The aftercare program is very structured. You go for your follow ups, you go to your support groups and you do what you are told and the weight will melt off. I am 4 months out and I have lost 75 pounds. Dr. Schuricht broke down the risks and benefits of the surgery so well. I had no questions and that is so not like me. Overall, I would rate him...priceless! His surgical competence and bedside manner surpass anyone I have dealt with or witnessed...my husband worries that I am in love with him. I think I am, you would fall in love with the person that gives you your life back. I thank God for leading me to him, I can never thank him enough.
My first impression of Dr. Schuricht, was that he was intelligent, knew about Gastric By Pass, and didnt try to sway anyone either way. He was upfront, told you the risks involved and let you make up your own decision. He is straight forward and doesnt play around, although he has an excellent sense of humor. He HAS a bedside manor, which is hard to come by these days. He was able to do my surgery laparascopic, when another surgeon said it wasnt possible. I have lost 21 pounds as of today, and keep making progress getting better each day. He returned a phone call I had, which was a trivial question, but had no problem with taking the time to go over it with me. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering the surgery, as I myself researched, met with more than one surgeon, asked a million questions, and am quite hard to please. I had no question about his ability after speaking to him and would rate him an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. Thanks Dr. Schuricht for changing my life,,, and after Im well you still owe me lunch,, (cheap date), ha harnFondly,rnJanet Gordon
What can you say about a true hero. I have put my life in his hands and would do it again. Alan Schuricht is one of the best doctors/surgeons that exists. I didn't like him when I went to the consultation. He was too much like I am. I wanted the surgery and didn't care too much about the person doing it as I had faith in the hospital. On surgery day, he popped up in the waiting area to talk to me. I was impressed with that, I was also impressed at a few things that he had to say. I continued to be impressed by his care at the post-ops. I was also surprised that he checked in on me everyday that I was in the hospital. This is a man who's main practice is not bariatric surgery. He treats a wide variety of gasto problems. As far as his staff goes, they have a difficult job to do and they do it well. You ask how I would rate Alan Schurict. How about a+++++++++++++++++. His surgical competence is equal to his bedside manner, in my opinion, both being outstanding. If I had any serious problems that fell into his realm of practice I would go to him in a New York second. Alan, you won't see this, but you are the best of the best.rnrn
He was great, and the whole team in his office was as well. The system they have in place may take a while, but it was worth the wait. And I feel I benefited from this. Other than post op appointments and the meeting once a month at the hospital, (which is great) not much else in the way of aftercare structure. I will rate him 100% great. And as I look back even from the first week, it was much easier than I ever thought it would be. But everyone is different, and I know other people with different experiences. With other surgeons and hospitals etc. I am glad it is over, and I am still the same "fat person" on the inside, and I am having a hard time getting myself to exercise and still am tempted to eat the wrong things, just like the old me..and it scares me A LOT....
Being a nurse, I don't care much about bedside manners, as long as the technical care is the best. In Dr. Schuricht, you get both. He is very personable, very down-to-earth. But also no BS, which is what I deal with best. He took care of 5 people I knew, who all had wonderful results from the sugery, so he I knew he was technically compitent as well. He never talks down to people, no matter how little knowledge you have of the procedure. He is perfect.
