University of Minnesota Physicians Bariatric Center
A very very kind man, who really believes he is making a difference in peoples lives and in fact giving their life back to them.
I found him to be the top in his field and felt very fortunate that he was doing my surgery. Staff is a little disorganized and doesn't return alot of your calls, but they are very supportive. I only saw him on initial interview, never saw him the day of surgery or aftercare. Saw interns. He has a very structured aftercare program. He is very thorough. He absolutely addresses the risks and I asked the staff about his stats which were 39 times better than the national average. To me bedside manner is irrelevant, I am much more interested in surgical competence in this type of surgery. I would rate Dr. Ikramuddin with a 10+++++

I have been extremely impressed by both the doctor and his staff. They've been highly professional, empathetic, understanding, and helpful. His aftercare program is, by his own admission, very thorough - which is a very good thing. Thus far, the only issue I've had with him is the extremely long time it takes to get on his schedule. I understand the need for all the tests, but once the tests are all completed and you can schedule, it still takes about 3 months waiting time. That may very well be intentional-so that he knows it's been thought out. I, however, have been needing to do this surgery, researching, etc... for several years and think the wait is very long. He's done several thousand of these surgeries and I have complete confidence in his abilities and if the meetings I've had with him are any indication, his bedside manner with be very good as well.
Very positive experience with Dr.I, very busy office and long time to get into seminar and to schedule the surgery, I am ther and will be having it on 1/18/2004. I have done extensive research and hear that his is one of the best in the country. I understand his office is busy but if it wasn't Dr. I would not have the experience he has. I attended the support group in his clinic the first Friday of every month at 6.00 pm and found this very helful. I will psot once I have the surgery.
I liked him very much. I felt he was thorough. My first encounter with him was at a seminar he gives to possible surgery patients.
My impression is still the same, but I am a recent surgical patient.
His office has been very helpful to me whenever I have called.
There is nothing at this point that I least like about him
It takes about 1 year to get into his seminar and then start preparing for the surgery.
I got a slight surgery site skin infection and went to my primary care physician and had that taken care of.
I have specific dates on which I am to see him for the next year.
I was told many times the risk of the surgery by him as well as his nurses.
I felt he did what he told me he was going to do. I was set for laprascopic surgery, but had a lot of scar tissue in my abdomen from a 1977 gall bladder removal so he did it open and that was ok with me.
Right now I feel his surgical competence is better.
I was impressed with this dr., as well as with his staff. Our initial group meeting was rather long but very, very informative. My only issue, thus far, is that it takes so very long to get beyond all the tests in order to schedule a surgery. I won't be able to complete all the surgical pre-op requirements for at least another 2 - 3 weeks, at which time the dr.'s office will be scheduling for february or beyond. it seems a bit archaic. I know, too, that it's probably done that way to prevent anyone rushing into this surgery. and that's a good thing. again, the dr. and his staff are really great.
