Arkansas Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
I already knew this MD because I work at the same hospital and he did gallbladder surgery on my husband. He has a good reputation and I trust him.
Mark Gibbs is a great surgeon, and I would not have let anyone else to this surgery on me except him. Dr. Gibbs staff was wonderful. They have a very structured aftercare program - and if followed, you should not have any problems. I know, that I have done great, with no problems at all. I have nothing but high praises for this group of people, and I have done research for about 3 years now..I believe that this is why I have done so well...
I like Dr. Gibbs mannerisms. I have been to 2 other seminars and were not impressed by that doctor. He would not even discuss my insurance, which shows me he is out for the $$$. Dr. Gibbs had a nice easy way about him. While I have not talked to him personally yet, I am sure I will like him. rnrnHis staff have just been super, I am very impressed with them.rnrnMy son is a surgery resident and he has worked with Dr. Gibbs, just one more reason to like him.rnrnNow that it is after the surgery, I am just as impresed with Dr. Gibbs and his staff. I was very pleased with their caring and their professionalism.
My first impression of Dr. Gibbs was that he seemed to be a laid back type of person. He wears jeans and cowboy boots and is a want-to-be rancher, so how bad can he be, right? I first met him at his seminar and knew instantly he was the right surgeon for me because he really knew his stuff, he answered all of my questions before I had a chance to ask them. He addressed every scenario possible concerning WLS surgery and he was realistic with his expectations and told all of us to be that way too. I was confident in him from the first meeting and that has not changed at all. His office staff is wonderful and very knowledgable about their jobs. Carrie, his nurse, is super sweet and if you call her you never have to wait long for her to call you back...and she makes you feel like you're her only patient, you're not just a number to her. Kay, who does insurance and billing for Dr. Gibbs and other doctors in the clinic, is very knowledgable about most insurances...she can tell you what you need to know about your insurance up front, I really liked that. Once I was approved for surgery, she called me and told me what my patient responsibility would be following surgery so there were no surprises. Dr. Gibbs is really big on aftercare, basically he tells you if you don't follow the rules then it won't work. You have 24hr. access to a dietician, Jo Beth, and she's really wonderful. Dr. Gibbs will follow through with you until a year out, then you're on your own...I know some doctors who release patients after 3 months, so a full 12 months under his care is really good. Some people find him to be abrupt, but I find him to be straight forward. He's not your family doctor, he won't sit and chit chat with you about your kids...he tells you what he wants you to know, he answers your questions, and thats it. In general, I'd say Dr. Gibbs is probably the best LAP surgeon in the state, he is extremely competent and confident in what he does and I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
I was referred to office by Dr. Welllbourns office because of the medicare situation and they still don't have their what ever it is they need and said had the necessary certificate and being my health is really declining and I am 60 have the Lapband or if necessary the bypass is my only hope of staying around I've have to stay in bed with my legs elavated cause the swelling is so bad and the legs esp the right are red and it goes up the legs not just the feet and I take antiobitics and diarectics It's so hard to get my breath

Dr. Gibbs performed my surgery on 5/14/07. He was professional, very much about the proper care needed for this to be successful. He made no bones about the need to follow the eating program for success. He is not a platitudes, gushy kind of doctor - but I had NO doubts that he knew what he was doing and would take excellent care of me.
I found Dr. Gibbs and his staff very helpful. Dr. Gibbs has his patients go through a seminar prior to any paper work being done and the seminar was very informative and helpful. He had me meet with a dietician prior to surgery which was very helpful also to go over what I could eat after the surgery, when and how much. I have been using the book they gave me alot to refer back to and it is a very important tool for me. I would definetely recommend him to a friend.
