Arkansas Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
I liked Dr. Gibbs from the start. He is direct without being intimidating and he is willing to answer questions. He is an excellent surgeon; however, he is not solely a bariatric surgeon and he does not have a support staff set up to provide thorough before and after care. His nurse has had the surgery, but she is not very talkative about it and generally seemed too busy to be bothered (or perhaps just shy). I would recommend him to people who don't want or need much hand-holding. He gives you a lot of excellent printed info about the surgery and the post-op diet, but there is no support staff to help with aftercare. Dr. Gibbs was very methodical about discussing each type of risk following surgery and didn't sugarcoat anything. I think he appreciated the fact that I had done a lot of research beforehand, but he still went through all the risks. Overall I would rate him high based on the results (7 out of 10), but the rating would be much higher if he had a solid support program. His surgical competence is far better than his bedside manner. He is a nice guy, but doesn't seem real comfortable just sitting and talking to the patient.
