Arkansas Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
Dr. Gibbs seems to be a well informed, well educated surgeon and seems to care about the wellbeing of the MO. My first encounter with him was at a free informational seminar he held in July. Dr. Gibbs spent three hours with about 15 potential clients where he explained the procedure, benefits and risks of surgery. I believe there was a sales pitch in the presentation as I am in sales as well, however I think this was only a small part of the overall agenda. Dr. Gibbs' right hand woman, Ashley is a great gal. I did have trouble with communication between their insurance department and the insurance company but with persistance that was resolved. My insurance will not pay and therefore I will be one of those PPs (Private Pay) But to my surprise, Baptist hospital has adopted a new policy for cash customers of WLS. for 6 days in hospital either all at once or if you have to return for complications it will be $7000. The surgeon's fees are $3600 and that is it. (open RNY)
I met with Dr. Gibbs in May and was very
impressed with him. My husband and I came
loaded with questions and he answered everyone.
I was transferred to St. Vincent Bariatric Program
and Madolyn was great. Dr. Gibbs stresses aftercare.
I would recommend him to anyone. His bedside
manner is great. We had to page him the weekend
after my surgery and he responded quickly.
I met with Dr. Gibbs today for the fisrt time. I really liked him. He was very professional, and gave me plenty of time to ask questions. The more we talked, the more I liked him. The office staff was great! Ashley, his nurse has been soooo helpful, and sweet. They were both very informative. I feel that anyone with morbid obesity should look into this and see if this would be right for them. He talked about aftercare, and how important it is to make a lifestyle change for the best results.
Dr. Gibbs was very straight forward about the risks involved. I liked that. He let me know what could happen, but without scaring me...which was nice. Overall........so far I am very impressed with him, and his staff.
I haven't met my surgeon yet, but I am very impressed by the Bariatric Clinic that he is a member of. I have read what others have written about him, they seem to feel he is wonderful. So far I have only dealt with the main office staff for the clinic, not Dr. Gibbs staff. They are great, very helpful. When I have met with the doctor, I will update my view.
I was immediately impressed with him and his staff. He was relaxed and seemed to be genuinely interested in me as a person. He appeared willing to answer as many questions as I might have without making me feel rushed. He said my golf handicap would be lower so that's all I needed to hear. I did get a little static from family and friends about not asking enough questions, but once I made the decision and became an informed patient, I really didn't see the necessity of learning every tiny detail of the surgery. Everyone on staff was very friendly and helpful. I didn't ask a lot of questions about the aftercare because I have read so much plus I have been quizzed by family and friends. They are supportive but want to make sure I know what I need to know to make this a success. Dr. Gibbs fully explained the risks. Because a girl I work with is haveing the same surgery in August, Dr. Gibbs and Ashley worked extra hard to get me scheduled as soon as possible in order to be back in the office by August. I am extremely grateful for that as I did not want to wait until September due to other responsibilities. Overall I rate them all a 10!
I think surgical competence is most important and a great bedside manner a definite plus.
I first saw Dr. Gibbs at a seminar he holds regarding the surgery. It lasts about 2 hours and he explains things really well. He is also very open to questions and gives a full and complete answer. I really liked him right away. The hospital where the seminar was held had put us in a conference room right next to the cafeteria. He made the remark that he thought that was very mean to put a conference on weight loss options next to a cafeteria with all of the aromas connected to a cafeteria. That thought had already crossed my mind so we seemed to have the same sense of humor.
I have had more contact with his office staff than I have had with him so far. Ashley is great. I really like her. And Kay in the billing office will do whatever it takes to help you out. I really appreciate her efforts on my behalf.
I have my pre-op appointment scheduled for July 19 so I will have more to report on him personally at that time.
I am in the process of loosing my personal Dr. He is moving out of state. I have never had a doctor with more personality and a better bedside manner so I have to say that surgical competence and bedside manner are both very important. Obviously if he is a lousy surgeon then his bedside manner won't matter because I won't be around to enjoy it. But, I do feel that you have to have a relationship with your doctor of trust and understanding.
I was scared going in to my first consultation. I had made the decision that if I did not like Dr. Gibbs, I would not have the surgery. He was wonderful; very informative, easy to talk to, and very enthusiastic about the surgery. I still love Dr. Gibbs, he has since even performed hernia repair surgery on me. I would go back to him for any surgery. His staff was wonderful, they were all friendly and nice and they didn't treat us like lesser individuals. I have no complaints about Dr. Gibbs, he is a very busy man though. He is helping lots of people so if you try and reach him be prepared to wait at least a little while for a return call. I would and have reccommended Dr. Gibbs to anyone. I have sent at least 5 people to him, who have in turn had the surgery and are also pleased. I carry his cards with me everywhere and give them out religiously. I was informed of all the risks up front before I ever even scheduled the surgery. I was also aware of what to expect and do after surgery. I called a couple of times after surgery and they were always prompt to return my calls. I would rate Dr. Gibbs way off the scale, he is the best surgeon that I have ever seen. He is very competent about the surgery and any surgery that he performs. He also has a great bedside manner. He always came in, sat down, and talked with me and my family extensively about questions or problems. You go Dr. Gibbs.....I think you are the best....I love my knew thin life and I would do it all over again tomorrow.

I went to the seminar at SVI in Little Rock. I was very impressed.. The meeting lasted about 3 hrs and Dr. Ozmund went over the surgery and all that is related to it with slides and all. I am very happy I have chosen the Bariatrics Center to have my surgery. I will be having Dr. Gibbs. I really really appreciate Madolyn and Judy in the centers office.. Great ladies to work with.

Well I have yet another Doctor. I am changing to a doctor within network of my insurance company. I really would like to say to anyone out there to please make sure you have a doctor that you can work with his staff as well as him.. I am changing due to the conflicts I have had with Dr. Gorospes office staff.. Very rude and uncaring.. I would not recommend using Dr. Gorospe due to this fact. Ok now I have not met Dr. Gibbs but he comes very recommended. I am scheduled to go to my per-op class on April 3. I will let you all know then.. Please read my personal comments to see what I mean about what i have been through with Dr. Gorospes office staff..

Well I have went to Dr. Gorospe's support group.. It was very informative. I was really amazed and at awwhh by some of the testimonies. I did get to hear from some of the people who have had complications and that brought things into a real prespective. That made me see that this is not all peaches and cream and that life does not automatically change the day of surgery.. I know and knew that this will be a battle at first then become a way of life.. I suggest if you are still pre-op attend a support meeting with post-ops and listen to their stories and Learn..
My first visit with Dr.Gibbs was VERY imformative and he was direct and upfront with me and my husband on the risks, procedure itself and made sure to answer any and all questions that I had. I was alittle nervous until I met him,,then I was fine. I am looking forward to my wls date of 3-2-01. The staff was fine in the Bariatric center. Alittle bumfuzzled at times, but understandable because they're understaffed in the front office right now. Madeline has been great about returning calls, giving me all the info,,etc.
Dr. Gibbs described in detail the risks,,and the overall surgery not only to me, but to my husband who'd accompanied me for moral support.I would give Dr.Gibbs an 11 on a 1-10 scale. I think that surgical competence is first and foremost the most important issue, but of course a good bedside manner is something that puts the patient at ease, and should be used by all docs!
