The Kane Center Bariatric Center
I've been holding off giving a review of Dr. Kane for a while now. Not because anything was wrong.. more because I wanted to make sure I wasn't "honeymooning" because of my joy with having my surgery. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Kane. He's honest, direct and still has a sense of humor. I knew that he was "my doctor" when he started shooting from the hip when I asked questions at the seminar. He treated me, from the first, like I was a person.. a human with feelings and intellect and humor. He probably doesn't even know he did it but that's what made the decision for me. There was no question in my mind that Dr. Kane would treat and care for me like I was important to him. Even now, three months post-op, I still feel the same way. Aftercare has been prompt and with honest concern for my comfort and well-being. Deciding to have this surgery was the best decision I ever made. Deciding to have Dr. Kane perform the surgery was the second best decision I ever made.
Dr Guske made a very good first impression, he made me feel very at ease immedately. After sitting with him for a half hour, I still liked him. He knows obese people and what they are going through and thinking. The staff was very careing and helpful. All points of pre surgery, sugery, post surgery and aftercare were discussed in full at the seminar help by Dr Guske himself. Overall, pre-surgery, Guske is a 9 (so far) in my book.
My first impression of Dr.Guske was very positive, he was very friendly and was very considerate towards my feelings of uncertainty. He spent a lot of time answering questions and never made me feel rushed. I could not have asked for a better doctor he truly is incredible! His staff is very nice and willing to help out in any way they can.
Very confident in how Dr Kane presented the seminar
Took lots of time with me on first visit.
His billing girl, Karen was extremely helpful and courteous to me.
Nothing
Dr. Kane lets you know that this is a life changing surgery and make sure it is what you want. You will have to follow his guidelines.
Support groups every other Friday night.
Extremely open and honest
Great
Both Great
I loved Dr. Wallace- he's even cute! He explained everything in detail and very interested in anything I had to say. He has remained this way throughout my journey with this surgery. The staff has also been friendly for the most part, and would recommend the group to anyone- Suburban Surgical Care Specialists.
I, personally, have had some complications, and feel almost bothersome to the after hours service- I'm sure they know my name and number by heart. The drs and nurses however tell me not to feel that way. But I have had to call a lot and can't help it.
One of the drs even called me back the same evening after speaking to me in the morning about my condition. Just to see how I was doing! That's never happened before!
My first impression of Dr. Kane Jr was that he was a very nice doctor with good listening skills. He cared about the whole picture.
My impression never changed.
He has an excellent, very busy staff. If calls were not returned sometimes I had to call back again.
There is nothing I don't like about him. I did wish that he followed up after surgery instead of a different member of the staff following up every day.
Allow plenty of time for your visits it is a very busy office. Be prepared with what is asked of you. Including letters of recommendation from other physicians.
He emphasizes aftercare, I have been unable to participate in a lot of it due to physical limitations. With other issues I have going on he has worked with test results my primary care doctor has sent him. He has structured aftercare.
He explains the risks of surgery, he advised me of higher risks due to my other physical injuries.
I would rate him as excellent. If I had it to do over again I would use him.
Both surgical competence and bedside manner are great
First impression was good. Further dealings with the office staff was terrible. I first went to the practice in Dec. 2003. Saw him in Jan. and filled out all the paper work. Kept calling to find out if approval had come and was told they never sent it out. It didn't get sent until April after much nagging on my part! I finally got approved in Sept. and had surgery in Dec. Hospital stay was just okay, but never saw him after surgery. He is a skilled surgeon and has lots of experience which is why I tolerated the other stuff. His competence is definately better than his bedside manner. He is very nice, but patronizing.
I first heard Dr Wallace speak at a seminar and was very impressed by him. At first I was a little concerned that he has less experience than the other doctors, but he wouldn't be a part of their esteemed practice if he was not extremely qualified. Also, there are always two surgeons in each surgery.
I then met with Dr Wallace on Oct 27, 2004 for a consultation. I felt very comfortable with him and my concerns were quickly put to rest. He is an extremely caring and capable doctor and we talked about the surgery and all the risks. After meeting with him I was very anxious to proceed.
Dr. Rantis seemed to be very arrogant & short with time as most doctors are.
It really wasnt until my last visit with him that I really felt he truly had my best interest at heart.
I left his office feeling very positive.
The office staff is very friendly and seems
willing to do whatever it takes to make things happen for you.
Dr. Rantis definately goes over the risks so much I almost changed my mind.
But after weighing the options
(no pun intended) What else did I have to lose?
I think aftercare is more enphasized at the seminars than at the doctors office.
My original surgery date was 12-23-04 but it was rescheduled because I became ill.
Dr. Rantis did call me at home to find out how I was doing but I felt as if he was very agitated that the surgery was rescheduled.
It is my hope that surgery will go well without complications. I do not want to rate him yet because I have not had the surgery. It is important to have surgical competence and a good bedside manner but if I had to choose one I would go for the surgical competence. Lets hope he displays both.
Dr. Rantis is the best, I was very nervous when I first met him but within minutes I felt very comfortable and at ease. He was very easy to talk to, explained everything, risks, aftercare, life long visits, even drew pictures, gives you all the time you need. Listens, very concerned for your well being, warm, patient and understanding. Wonderful, kind, compassionate caring bedside manor. Very competent and truly cares about you. Always returned my calls promptly. When my husband couldn't accompany me to my visits he always told me if he had any questions he could call and he'd be happy to answer them. Dr. Rantis has preformed 5 more procedures on me since my RNY (none related to WLS) and his care has been awesome. His steady hands have left virtually no scars. After my last hospitalization he showed me he was also concerned about my mental well being as well as my physical. THANK YOU DR. RANTIS FOR BEING THERE FOR ME. YOU'VE SAVED MY LIFE TWICE.
