The Kane Center Bariatric Center
I heard Dr.Rantis speak at the New Self Bariatric Seminar in June. The seminar was rather lengthy, approx 3 hours long, however Dr.Rantis held my attention as well as my skeptical parents who accompanied me. What impressed me is that it was not a "sell job" but rather he spoke about the risks of bariatric surgery, stressed after care and lifelong changes in eating/excersise. I had initially called New Self in early June and spoke w/Bessie, who I also met at the seminar. She has been quite helpful with assisting me in any questions that I've had and given me tips on how to move the process along i.e. making appointments right away to ensure a sooner surgery date.
Aftercare and behavior support groups are a must and organized thru Alexian Bros.Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.
Dr. Kane Jr is one of the nicest people I have ever met and he made sure my decision was right for me. He didnt put his personal input in as if I'm just another paycheck for him. His demeanor and job accomplishments make me have complete trust in him and the surgery. I would recommend him to everybody who is thinking of doing this for themselves.
There will never be enough thank you's for Dr. Guske and his staff at New Self for all of the help, enouragement and friendship they have shown me so far. (Special thanks to Mara and Karen!)
I first met Dr. Guske at the informational seminar presented by New Self Bariatrics and I adored his bedside manner. He was so patient with everyone's questions (even if they were repeats) and presented all of the material in such a down-to-earth way that I knew immediately he was my surgical pick.
When my husband, son and I had my surgical consultation with him I knew I had made the right choice. Not only did he address my concerns and feelings but also my husbands and even took the time to pay attention to our 10 month old son who was tearing up his exam room! :)
Thank you to everyone at New Self for giving me another chance at life!
Dr. Kane is very professional. He is a real advocate for Obesity Surgery. He is on the review board that defines a surgery center as a "Center of Excelence" for bariatric surgery. His practice, Suburban Surgical Associates has recently been awarded the Center of Excellence certification. The practice takes a wholistic approach to weight loss. They have several surgeons and they also are affiliated with pulminoligists, gastroenterologists, physchologists and several other disciplines, all toward making sure that the surgery risks are reduce and the liklihood of success is maximized. As most folks know that are studying this surgery, its not just the suregery that makes it successful, its the "headwork" and lifestyle changes that are equally necessary.
Dr. Guske was very caring, and helpful. This of course is my first impression of him, I haven't had another visit yet. But, am looking forward to it. :-)
I just LOVE him. He is so wonderful. He is very caring, and truly cares about his patients. His bedside manner is wonderful as well.
Did I say that I just LOVE him? :)
On a scale from 1 to 10, one being the worst, and ten the best, I would have to rate him as an 11.
:D
I had my first consult with Dr. Guske on 7/18. I was delightfully surprised. Typically surgeons are cold, distant no nonsense and always in a hurry.
I found him to be very warm and caring and took alot of time to go over my concerns, especially about insurance problems. He made me feel very comfortable and I knew there was nothing that I couldn't ask him.
He referred me to a Bariatric Nutritionist to help with the insurance approval and felt that we would be able to get around the 12 month deal with BCBS due to my medical situation.
I would highly recommend him to anyone considering WLS in the Chicago area.
I actually work for Dr. Guske and not only is he recognized as an excellent surgeon, he is also a great person. He cares deeply about his patients which is why I am choosing him to perform my surgery. All of our doctors are excellent and I would let anyone of them do my GBP in a heartbeat, but for some reason, Dr. Guske just stuck out.
I was having trouble with my insurance approval, and Dr. Guske didn'e hesitate to ask if I needed his help. When I told him I finally got approved, he gave me a high five and had a big smile on his face. I'm nervous, but knowing that he will be the one doing my surgery....I feel a lot better.
My surgeon was Dr. Paul Guske at New Self Bariatric. He was and is wonderful. From the first meeting we had, I felt that he truely cared about what he was doing. He put me at ease and answered all my questions and soothed all my worries. Dr. Guske told me all about the risks and that they were always there, but they do their best to preempt any problems by the rigorus routine you go through before surgery. I was always nervous that something would stop me from having the surgery and I didn't really relax until we had the date and we were set to go. The day of surgery I was a little nervous, but he came in before surgery and my fears stopped.
The staff at New Self is highly competent and take the time to help in any way that they can. They always seem to be in a cheerful mood and that helps. The aftercare that was provided was quite complete and they kept an eye like a hawk on you.
The worst part for me was the testing two days after surgery. You again have to swallow some gunk and they film it. But, I got one mouthful down and couldn't get anymore down. Well, they got me in the waiting area and Dr. Guske found me there. I told him what happened and he went to personally to see if the doctor who did the test got enough to answer his questions and he did. What a relief! The other releaf was when I got the drainage tube out. It was a really wierd feeling as it came out. I couldn't believe how long it was!
If I ever have to have surgery again, I hope I either have to have it done by Dr. Guske who is sweet and warm and really cares. Or if that isn't possible, I want his twin in some other specialty. He is absolutely the best.
Dr. Guske has a very good bed side manner. I actually researched several surgeons in the area, but he came recommended from a friend. I ended up going to him for my consult (one hour away), and am very glad I did. He is very knowledgable and up front about the process and statistics. He has also been very caring since the surgery. It has overall been a very pleasent experience.
