The Kane Center Bariatric Center
I actually met with Dr James Kane, Sr. He is a pleasant, congenial and skilled surgeon. I work in the same hospital that Dr Kane does his surgery at and he has come with the highest recommendations and is held in the highest regard by fellow Dr's. He spent enough time with me to answer any questions that I had, explained the entire procedure to me and put me at ease. I am excited to have him as my surgeon. The staff in the office is nothing less than stellar. They are quick to answer questions and do their very best to schedule appontments according to your specific needs.
3/15/03 I have had a bad experience with Dr Kane, Jr and I am not at all ready to recomnmend him for surgery at this time. I have experienced a post op complication and Dr Kane Jr treated me rudely and spoke to me with such hostility. I still appreciate Dr Kane Sr and I find him to be wonderful, but in general, I am not happy with this group.
Dr. Guske is took the time to really sit down and make sure that we were aware of all the issues. He really understood what an obese patient feels like, a lot of doctors only treat you and don't really want to know you. I would recommend him to anyone. He is partnered with some great co-workers so I feel like I am in great hands.
I think the best way that I can descibe Dr. Rantis is to say that he was my life saver. M first impression of him was actually one of arrogance. Not uncommon among doctors. However, after getting to know him a little better, I was extremely comfortable with him. He has an excellent bedside manner and I think he truly cares about his patients. He is very strong on aftercare and having bloodwork kept up to date. These things are to your advantage. Before surgery, Dr. Rantis took the time to go over all aspects of this surgery. Not to be taken lightly. He went into great details about the surgery itself and the risks involved. He also went on to explain what I could expect after surgery. ie: going home with a drain, giving myself injections of a drug used to thin blood so I wouldn't get blood clots, etc. He listened to my questions and gave thorough answers. I would rate him a 9 overall....after all No one is a perfect 10.
MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. KANE JR WAS AT A MEETING OR SEMINAR, AND I THOUGHT THIS IS THE GUY I WANT TO DO THIS FOR ME.
THEN WHEN I HAD MY OFFICE VISIT WITH HIM, I TOOK MY DAD AND IT WAS REALLY LATE LIKE 8:30PM SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT BUT I FELT, LIKE HE WAS A LITTLE SHORT AND SARCASTIC. I FROZE BECAUSE I FELT A LITTLE INTIMIDATED, SO WHEN HE ASKED ME IF I HAD ANY QUESTIONS I COULD NOT THINK!
THE OFFICE STAFF WAS GREAT!
My first impression of Dr Kane Jr was a good one. He seemed very friendly and caring. I have been through my Lap Rny with him and my Gallbladder removal. I am now having my Panni done on March 18th. I have grown to really care about him. I know that I can trust him with my life. He is a wonderful doctor.
UPDATE: GOING WITH DR. RANTIS 1/10/2001
I have switched surgeons. I will be going with DR. RANTIS and the Weight for Life program. I have heard all sorts of fabulous things about him and his office is really cool!!! My appointment is a week from today - 1/17/2001. I can hardly wait!!
UPDATE: 1/17/2001
I got bad news :-( yesterday that I had to reschedule my consultation appointment cuz the doctor was cancelling all his afternoon appointments for today. BOO HOO!!! So, I am now scheduled for Wed 1/24. Just a week's delay, but it feels like forever.
UPDATE 1/25/2001
I had my appointment with Dr. Kane's office on Wed. It went very well :-) I am, of course, a "good candidate" for RNY. I met not with Dr. Kane but with Dr. Rantis.
Dr. Rantis was very nice, took lots of time to explain the procedure to my husband, who accompanied me to the office. Dr. Rantis also did an excellent job of explaining the risks of surgery so that if I wasn't completely 1000% sure that I wanted to do this that I had an out. I appreciated that. He had a very caring nature. I give Dr. Rantis a 9 on a 0-10 scale!!
UPDATE: 5/6/2001
I just had to say how fabulous DR RANTIS is. He has a wonderful, caring, heartfelt bedside manor. He is thorough. He is kind. He is patient. He is so very available whenever you need him. He saw me EVERY SINGLE DAY I was in the hospital, even on Easter! Some days I saw him twice. He is so incredibly dedicated. When I needed additional pain medication after surgery he didn't bat an eyelash & ordered it for me. Once I got home and I thought I had an infection at my surgical site he told me to come on in the office - even though it would be after his office hours were done at the EGV office. My scar looks fabulous - it is not thick like some I have seen. He must have a very steady hand. I cannot believe sometime how fortunate I am to have such a fantastic doctor. Dr Rantis, if you read this -- THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!
UPDATE: 3/5/2003
Dr Rantis preformed panni surgery on me 2/19/03. He did a fantastic job and reminded me why I love him so dearly! I really do recommend him to anyone looking to have WLS in the Chicagoland area. He is the BEST!!!
The first time I went to see Paul G. was fro the consulation visit. He was 4 hours late. He had emergency surgery. Usually I have the patience of a 2 year old, but once I met him I glad that I waited. He is a Excellent Dr. He really talked to me. He also has an awsome nursing staff. I was worried about pain that wasn't normal with any other patients so i called his nurse she called me back adn talked me through it. and then had me call her each day to update her if there were any changes, until I could get into the office. I had a bacterial infection in the "wick" area I've been to thte office every week so hey can moniter it and make sure that it is healing. Dr. Guske and his whole staff are class "A".
