The Kane Center Bariatric Center
When I met Dr. Guske for my initial consultation, it was the first time in my life I didn't feel guilty about being fat. He was very matter of fact about the situation and I wasn't there for him to tell me I need to lose weight. We were beyond that so it was comfortable to just discuss the operation and pre/post care, etc. He was a little late but very apologetic. He was absolutely wonderful at the hospital and checked on me everyday. I had a complication and was there longer than most people and it nice to know that he really cared about me. I would recommend him and his staff to anyone thinking about having gastric bypass surgery. I think both surgical competence and bedside manner are very important traits for your physician to have although if I had to chose one over the other, naturally it would be surgical competence. The staff at Alexian Brothers Medical Hospital was also wonderful. I am 100% satisfied and happy with my surgery and surgeon.
My first impression was very good! he is not only knowledgeable but very pleasant to look at! He sat down and talked to me and my husband and didnt make us feel rushed or dumb. I appreciated the time he spent with us. I feel very comfortable that he will bring me through this surgery with as minimal problems as possible.
I thought the office was nice and the staff was pretty good. They had suggested that I call before I come in so in case he was called away on an emergency. This was great advice even though I didnt wait long I saw patients of Dr Kanes who had already been waiting 2 hours as he was detained. I really appreciated this advice as I live a half hour away as it is.
I have not had surgery yet but will update this after I do. My girlfriend had the surgery on 4/30/03 and Dr Guske was also her surgeon and she liked him alot so I feel even safer.
I met with Dr. Rantis on 5/12/03. I saw him about 1 hour after my appointment time. I was busy with weighing in, filling out forms, getting my picture taken, etc. before I went into the exam room.
After going through my paperwork and asking me a lot of questions, Dr. Rantis left the room for quite a while and I was worried that I wouldn't get an opportunity to ask him my questions. But he came back and sat down (which I appreciated) and answered most of my questions.
His staff is efficient and kind.
Dr. Rantis uses Weight for Life to co-ordinate all the before and after care and they are very organized. I never have any trouble reaching them, either.
I am supposed to be getting a date in July, 2003.
Dr. Guske is a really nice man he explained everything to me and made me feel safe in his hands so to speak! He really talks to you in english with out all the fancy med terms so you understand. Bedside maner is wonderful!
His office staff is great also . I had some trouble with my wicking and had to call each day with questions and they called me back promtly and told me to call as much as needed.
My only complaint is when you go for your appointment dont plan on getting out very fast . I think I will do what my best friend sugested call first maybe they can tell me to come in half hour later or something. But as far as Doctors go I will say hes worth the wait!
Overall rating A+
I saw Dr. Guske 4/17/03. I was very impressed. He answered all my questions and made me feel good about the procedure. I had some doubts going into the office but came out ready to have the surgery.
I am very impressed with Dr. Guske and Suburban Surgical Specialist, the group he is with. Dr. Guske is not only extremely competent, but has a wonderful demeanor and great bedside manner. He explained surgery in detail and answered any questions I had. I had done a lot of research prior to meeting him. My first visit with him was relaxed and informative. His staff is equally as wonderful.
This group works with Weight For Life and takes every precaution in regards to this surgery.
The founder of the group, Dr. Kane Sr. came highly recommended by my primary care physician. When I found out that Dr. Guske would be doing my surgery and not Dr. Kane, at first I was disappointed. After thinking about it, I trusted that Dr. Kane would only hire 'qualified' associates. After meeting Dr. Guske and seeing him since my surgery I am confident that he was the right one to do my surgery.
I did have a slight challenge prior to surgery with follow through from his office staff. I would leave a message and no one would get back to me. I did express my concern to Dr. Guske. He apologized, said he would address it and also explained that they were training 4 new employees. I have since had NO PROBLEMS.
I would highly recommend any of the Suburban Surgical Specialists for this surgery.
im with dr rantis an associate of dr kane and i love him. he is so patient and understanding. the staff is awesome. he listens! there was nothing i didnt like about him. he's very caring and understands our obesity problems, he does'nt just say well you have to lose weight. i hate that. do most dr's think we choose to be fat and uncomfortable? i would rate him a ten because he has bedside manners and surgical competance also. he explained the risks quite clearly.he also told me that there are meetings at alexian brothers hospital almost every weekend for after care. he insists that i see a dietician before my surgery to help me learn quantities and how to eat properly again.
Had consultation.
He was complete and answered all questions. The appointment began 1 1/2 hours late. When asking the staff how late he was running and how long I would be waiting, they could not answer--quite frustrating. When asking about testing, aftercare, etc--he kept referring that Weight for Life has the answers and would call me or I should contact them. Dr. Kane Jr. fully addressed the surgery, the risks and discomfort and that I would go home with tubes. He was forward with all of those things, not to leave any information out. He did though, look at his watch to make sure he did not spend too much time with me, saying he has a lot of patients waiting.
