5/8/04 I had my first consultation with Dr Nazarian two days ago. My appointment was at 4:30pm, and I finally saw him at 7pm. He was in surgery and had trouble getting to the office. In the meantime, I had my pictures taken, watched "the" video (all doctors have some video for you to see), had a question and answer period with his associate and some other first timers. He was very apologetic. We talked about my background and he did a brief exam of my tummy. He wants me to lose 30lbs before surgery and quit smoking. He made me shake hands on it. (I liked that). I hae another appointment in a month.

A nice soft spoken Doctor with a faint accent; however, he was clear and precise in answering my questions.

When I met Dr. Burry I thought he was so nice and very informative, he took his time to tell me everything I needed to know and what to expect and what not to expect I think he will do a great job. His staff is very sweet and understanding, one of them has had the surgery and she knows just what we are in for and trys to be very supportive. I know first hand that they will not rush into things,I am a diabetic and my sugar got really high so they wouldn't even see me until I get it under control and I was upset at first but I know that it was for my own good. Dr Burry encourages everyone to go to support meetings before and after it is a really great way to get information from people who has just had the surgery and people who have had the surgery for awhile. I have only met Dr Burry once but I have a feeling that he is going to be someone I can really rely on for information and he will give me and all his patients the best care he possibly can.

My 1ST impression was of a soft-spoken, compassionate man, a deep thinker, very committed to this battle. My thoughts remain the same, today.
The office staff is kind enough and seem to know their jobs, yet I can see nothing extraordinary here.
As he is a man of very little words you must be prepared with questions or concerns, and at times I found this difficult. His skills as a surgeon, I do not question. I felt that I chose one of the best in this field, and still do.
Aftercare is/was greatly emphasized. I spoke w/a dietician at length when at the hospital for pre-op tests( was so nervous, I remembered little). She came to my room the day after surgery and I was still on morpheine, so I only remember that she came and nothing more...this proved to be bad for me.I was given incorrect info on protein drinks by a staff member and this kept me ill for days, so I tried to rely on a booklet. The risks of surgery were discussed, but dismissively so. Overall, Dr. Nazarian a 10/staff-some errors were made, but overall their hearts are in the right place!
In the case of this particular surgery, you need both surgical competence and bedside manner. This is a very physical and highly EMOTIONAL undertaking.

Very quiet, cautious man with pleasant demeanor, interested in making sure I was completely aware of the benefits and pitfalls associated with this surgery, made sure I was completely sure of what I was embarking upon.
Office staff very friendly and easy going.
I have no bad opinions of him.
The doctor is quiet
A life changing experience.
Must follow a structured aftercare program.
Must weigh considerations of surgery.
I would rate him a 9 so far .
The Dr. is very strict about aftercare and following his method of liquid only for 4 weeks then slowly colored liquids followed very slowly by pureed foods a little at a time.
Scar is very narrow and fine and is healing nicely.

I FEEL LIKE DR. BURRY HAS GIVEN ME A NEW LEASE ON LIFE. I REALLY FELT HE WAS SINCERE THE FIRST TIME I MET HIM. HE ALSO BECAME MY MOM'S SURGEON FOR A DIFFERENT HEALTH PROBLEM AND AFTER SEEING HOW CARING HE WAS TOWARD HER I KNEW I HAD MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. I PUT MY SURGERY IN GOD'S HANDS AND I CAME THROUGH WONDERFULLY. DR. BURRY TOLD ME HE THOUGHT HE HAD FOUND HIS CALLING AT MY 1ST VISIT & I TRULLY BELIEVE HE HAS. HIS WHOLE STAFF IS WONDERFUL. EVEN THE NURSE'S AND TECHS AT THE HOSPITAL WERE GREAT!(MY FAVORITE WAS PAM!)IT'S SUCH A PERSONAL CHOICE TO HAVE WLS AND THEY REALLY PUT YOU AT EASE.

Dr. Nazarian is a small, soft spoken man. He is very knowledgable and makes you feel at ease. I was very happy with him. He doesn't have any bad qualities that I can think of. I would feel very safe going back to him at anytime. He addressed all aspects of surgery. His bedside manner is not overly warm but you do feel that he cares. Personally I would rather have an excellent doctore with no bedside manner than a fair doctor with good bedside manner. I would completely recommend Dr. Nazarian.

I call Dr. Burry my new hero! This is the man who performed my Roux-En-Y Open gastric bypass surgery on February 3, 2004. Every office visit, Dr. Burry comes in smiling, provides the facts and answers all of my questions. The surgery went off without a hitch. Every nurse I talked to had good things to say about Dr. Burry. I recommend Dr. Burry to anyone considering the surgery without any reservations.

My first impression of the dr. is that I thought he would be taller. I was also prepared to wait to see him as I had read he runs late all the time. I did not have to wait to see him at all. In fact, all of my appointments have been timely, so that is a great thing. His office staff knew me by name after the first time. When I have a question, they are very efficient at calling me back with the answer if they do not know it right away. I cannot say there is anything that I like least about the doctor. I want everyone to know that I did tons and tons of reserach over several months to come up with Dr. Nazarian and I feel he is superior in this field. He is extremely cautious in his approach, which makes him all the more successful. He surrounds himself with others who are tops in their field (anesthesiologist (?), cardiologist, pulmninologist (?)). Dr. N was the match I was looking for. I have not heard much about aftercare from the doctor, I assume this will come form Liv-Lite, the program the doctor is affiliated with. There are support groups to be attended. Unfortunately, I would need to travel four hours one way to attend any support group, so I will be looking for one closer to home to attend. Not sure if they let you attend if you had it done with a different dr. Will be looking into it.
I was fully aware of the risks involved. Between the dr. and Rick of the Liv-Lite program, there were no questions unanswered.
Overall, I would rate the doctor highly. I definitely would reccommend him to anyone thinking of have in the surgery done. The only improvement I can say is that, in my case at least, they needed to let me know more in detail what the emotional issue would do to me and be prepared to help in that respect. I felt pretty much alone except for the support of the ObesityHelp.com website. Although, once I did tell the dr., he helped me cure my problem right away. So I guess I would say TELL YOUR DOCTOR EVERYTHING. HE CAN't HELP YOU UNLESS HE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON!

Competence in the operating room is by far more important that bedside manner, in my opinion, but Dr. Nazarian has both. He has both mastered. Hope this helps people to make a decision. Thanks!

Dr. Burry is a great surgeon. Easy to talk to. Very big on going through even the smallest details with you. Doesn't seem to mind "stupid questions". Rate him a 10 out of 10. My scar is going to be very hard to notice.
