My first impression of Dr Dunshee? I liked him from the word go. He was friendly, personable, knowledgable and kind. At my initial consultation, he was very discriptive of the options I had for weight loss surgery and he outlined the pros and cons of each. He understood that I wanted a Lap Band and supported me in that decision, knowing that I had done extensive research into the subject.

His office staff is excellent. They have been most helpful to me when I was getting my paperwork together. I couldn't ask for better office support. The best of the three offices I have visited in my quest for this surgery.

Dr Dunshee recommends you be on a 10 day liquid diet previous to your surgery. This helps to deplete your glycogen stores, which will make the laporascopic surgery easier. Also, this is a good deterrant to the "last supper" syndrome we all seem to get. I had little or no trouble with this diet. I didn't read it well in the beginning but after a couple of days, found I could be eating more than I initially thought...

The one thing that really impresses me about the Tallgrass bariatric surgeons, they operate with two surgeons, instead of one. In all my research, this is the only place that does this.

I am four months out now and I still think I made a good decision. Dr Dunshee truly is there to help me. As of my third fill, I feel I am finally at a good restriction and hope to start logging some real weight loss in the next few months.

Here's to a healthy life ahead!!!

I first met Dr. Dunshee at a Seminar that he presented in Topeka, KS. He seemed very knowledgeable about WLS.
I did a WHOLE lot of research on Dr. Dunshee from many WLS online support groups. Everybody had great things to say about him.
At my consultation with him at his office, he did seem very quite. He explained the WHOLE process of the lapband surgery. He answered every question I had in great detail.
Rachelle, the WLS nurse, is so very nice and quickly responds to any email or phone call.
What REALLY impressed me was that when Dr. Dunshee operated on me, he had one of the other doctors from the office assist him. I guess that is their practice, to always have 2 doctors in the operating room.

She is very nice and informative. The staff is the greatest. She talked about all the risks during my consoltation. She answered all of my questions about the surgery, risks, aftercare. What to expect before/after surgery. So fare she's the greatest!

Hmm first impressions... I thought he was a real cutie and wondered if he was even old enough to be out of college hehe. On a serious note.. he is very quiet but very confident type of person. Answered everything I had to ask and provided all the information I needed to know. His staff is GREAT!! Not one complaint from me at this point on any of them. I would have to say that I think so far that his surgical competence is better than the bedside manner... BUT then again I have only met him once. I am sure though once I have the chance to be in his care that his bedside manner will be as great as his surgical competence. Overall an A+ Doctor. :)

I really liked Dr. Dunshee. He is very quiet, but he did make me feel comfortable about his skills. The office staff is very pleasant. He made me very aware of the risks of surgery. He didn't try to rush me into making a decision so I didn't feel as though he was just trying to make money off me.

I first met Dr. Dunshee at an informational meeting last December at St.Francis Health Center. My first impression of him was that he looked so young. When I had my first appointment with him the following January, I thought he seemed a little shy. But, during our second meeting he was much more relaxed and took more time with me to discuss the surgery and answered the questions I had. The office staff are absolutely wonderful, the nurses and the receptionist were very friendly and encouraging to me. His coordinator was one of his patients and she is so sweet. She has first hand experience, so you really feel at ease in asking her questions. Overall, I've had a really good experience so far. Personally, I think bedside manner and surgical expertise are equally inportant, because you are relying on their skills to keep you alive. Plus, if the doctor has good bedside you are more likely to report any problems or pains you may have. I would refer anyone to Dr. Dunshee, because he's really professional yet, still approachable.

I first met Dr. Bernsten at a support group meeting at St. Francis Hospital. She is very knowledgable and talks on a level that everyone can understand. I was really impressed that for her, no question was a dumb question, she was equally willing to answer any question!!

At first, I was kinda disappointed because ALL my friends that have had this procedure before had Dr. Steward. I found out later that every surgery performed by Dr. Steward, was assisted by Dr. Bernsten, and vice versa. That made me feel alot better - I was more concerned about knowledge of the procedure than anything else.

Then I got to meet Dr. Bernsten, in person, at my initial doctor's appointment. She talked kinda fast and went thru alot of information. . .most of which, I had already read, and answered any questions I had. She explained the different surgical options they offered, pros and cons, and asked me which procedure I wanted to go with.

At the hospital, we were delayed a couple of hours from scheduling conflicts, but the surgery went great. . about an hour in sugery and 45 min in recovery!! She came to see me every morning around 8:30 - 9:00. . .amazing. . I've been in the hospital before and I never knew when to expect the doctor to come in - I was lucky if it was before 3 PM!! And, when I relayed a problem I had one night in getting pain meds, she took care of that immediately!!

Overall, she is a great surgeon - I would recommend her to anyone. If she has any faults at all, she is kinda hard to get to know. . .she comes off as all business. If I had to choose between knowledge and really getting to know someone, while both are important to me, I would choose the knowledge.
