Met with Dr. Clayton and everything that everyone has said about her is true and then some. Her office staff in Pasadena are teriffic. I cannot say enought about the staff at Brotman medical, especially Deb and Dr. Andrews. They have so much compasion. They are so helpful and answer every question with honesty. They are in no way trying to do a hard sell. I never felt hurried at either of my visits with Dr. Clayton or with Deb at Spectrim. The risks were all explained. I feel very comfortable with Dr. Clayton and have every confidence in her.

My husband and I met with Dr. Clayton on 05/09/01 and we just fell in love with her! She is very down-to-earth, very thorough in her explanations and not one bit condescending (like surgeons I've dealt with in the past). She addressed all the risks and answered each question in depth and even though we were the last appointment of the day, she never made us feel rushed at all. One of the things that impressed me about her when I was searching for a surgeon is her conservative approach. I am very comfortable with her ten week progressive nutrition plan. She is affiliated with the Spectrim Program at Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, CA. That program offers a huge amount of support and information.
Dr. Clayton's staff have been very helpful, especially Nancy who pulled strings to get me in for a consult because I have a definite time constraint.
My surgery date is 06/21/01. Overall, I feel very confident with Dr. Clayton and very fortunate that we found her. Also, my husband will be having the surgery a few months after me.

I am now one week post-op. I'm feeling much better than I thought I would at this point. My opinions of Dr. Clayton have changed only for the better. Her face was the first thing I really remember clearly after surgery. It actually was the morning after; surgery day is only like a shadowy memory. She was smiling and saying everything was fine and I could get out of ICU in a few hours. She was off for the weekend and her associate took very good care of me. Monday morning, bright and early (6:30 AM) she was back, checking my incision, answering my questions and clearing me to go home that afternoon. I've needed to call the office with a few little questions and I've been answered quickly and cheerfully each time.

I am the type of person that is very
hesitant about weight loss. But I met some
very wonderful, caring, and knowledgable
people. Dr. Clayton is so extremely
intelligent on the subject of bariatric
surgery. She answered all my questions and
made me feel that there was hope for me.
The program is structured on a wonderful
aftercare program. They give out a lot
of really good information and tell you
how your doing on your weight loss by
weighing and measuring you. So you see
your progress, and i tell you what boy is
there progress. There are risks to every
surgery, but in my opinion the benefits
far outway the risks. I feel wonderful I
am almost 2 years post-op. I have lost in
excess of 130lbs, I have 15 more pounds to
get to my goal. I never thought I could
feel so beautiful, but I do!!!!!!
Enough about me, Dr. Clayton is a
excellent physician, I have recommended
her to numerous friends. Spectrim is a
well rounded program, Deb Vasquez, program
director has become a great friend and
mentor. I love all of you, thanks for
helping become a 100% better person

I first met Dr. Clayton at the Marriot where a seminar was being held for gastric bypass surgery. She seemed very knowledgable in this field. I was told that she has been doing this kind of surgery for over 11 years. She answered all the questions with care and concern and was sure to let everyone at the seminar know that this is a big decision because it is a major operation. I liked her right away. The second time I saw her was in her office. She was just as caring and concerned when it was just me and her in the room. She explained the surgery process again and made sure that I was aware that it was a major surgery and it should not be taken lightly. She also made sure that I knew about and attended the support groups at Spectrim, which is the program I am going through to have my surgery. She emphasized that the support group is an essential part of getting throught the surgery successfully.

The only thing that I felt was kind of negative is that Dr Clayton's office staff doesn't seem to be as caring as Dr. Clayton is. But, this is probably due to the office being a busy one.

I know that Dr. Clayton is a very good surgeon and that is all that really matters!!!!

Dr. Clayton is wonderfully patient! She answered all my questions (even the dumb ones!). Her staff is incredibly helpful and cheery. They were very helpful in getting my insurance approval in a matter of days. Her diet after surgery is extremely conservative, with 10 weeks of progressively more solid "soft" foods. Personally, I think this approach is best for me as I am concerned about my after surgery diet. The staff at Spectrim is amazing and so supportive. I think this decision has been made easier for me by the support I have received from Spectrim and Dr. Clayton.

I first met w/Dr. Clayton Jan. 25, 2001 in her Pasadena office. I liked her very much. She was very friendly and informative about the surgery. She took time to answer my questions completely and I didn't feel rushed. I've met over 30 other men and women who had their surgery by Dr. Clayton and every one of them said they were very impressed with her and would have the surgery again. I also liked the fact that she has a structured support group available 2nd & 4th Tuesday of every month.

I met Dr. Clayton for the first time last week. She shook my hand and was very warm. She explained the surgery in detail, stressed several times that "this is serious surgery", explained all of the risks, and answered all my questions. She explained that this is a "tool" to assist in my weight loss, and that I still would have to do my part by following the guidelines. I did feel slightly rushed, but I chalked it up to the patients that were waiting to see her! I liked the fact that I was able to schedule my surgery date, even though insurance approval was still pending. The office staff were friendly. This is all I know at this point! Next week I will attend the consultation at The Spectrim at Brotman Medical Center (which was supposed to be before I met the doctor - oops!), so I'm sure I'll know more then. Everything I have read on this site about Dr. Clayton has been extremely positive. This really puts my mind at ease.

My first contact with Dr Clayton was at the seminar for Spectrim. She was warm, intelligent , professional, and answered everyone's questions as if it was the first time she had heard it. Her staff is wonderful and I am truly looking forward to putting myself into their capable hands.

Dr Clayton has a conservative and structured aftercare program where there is post-surgical support, nutritional information and psychological care.

At this time I have nothing negative to say, but, am not that far into the program yet.

3/24/01-Dr Sheilah Clayton, the Spectrim staff and Brotman Medical Center and all the best and I want to encourage anyone looking into using them to do your research and you will see, it is hard to beat them. My surgery has been a great success and my gratitude knows no bounds.

Dr. Clayton stroke me as a conscientious, dedicated surgeon. She spends quite a bit of time with you discussing all of the risks with surgery. She works with Spectrim at Brotman Medical Center and Surgilite at St Lukes Hospital in Altadena. These programs arrange the pre-op testing for you, literally steer you through the hospital from test to test, schedule the appointments with the internist and psychologist, and schedule the surgery for you, meet you on the day of surgery and take you through the hoops until you are settled in bed, visit you on the weekdays in the hospital, and get you in contact with the Dietician whenever you need it. The Dietician visits you before you leave the hospital. The nutritional program is more conservative with Dr. Clayton. It takes 10 weeks to get to solid foods. The support group meets every other Tuesday at Brotman at 7 PM. It is a good group of people. The meeting is run by the Psychologist. I guess that's about all I have for now.
