Dr. Sheilah Clayton was very professional and personable during my consultation. I was referred to Dr. Clayton by another WLS patient. Her staff at Brotman is most helpful and always friendly when I call or have questions! I can attend support group meetings pre-op and have plenty of opportunities to ask questios. I feel that I'm in good, competent hands going into this procedure.
She was very friendly and took the time to review the procedure with me again. She clarified any questions i was having a that time. However, i've only spoken to her once. I have not had my surgery yet, but i hope all turns out right. I have researched her past history and feel confident that she will do a good job. 2/22/04
I met with Dr Clayton last week. My appointment was at 2:00, but she didn't get there until 3:00. I don't mind though, because if she was sewing me up I certainly wouldn't want her rushing through because she had someone waiting at her office, ya know? She was pleasant and explained everything to me. She answered my questions. I really liked her demeanor. Donna was in that day, and she was pleasant enough. The few times I have called they have helped me promptly. My experience has been good so far. She's not hard to get in to see.
Dr. Clayton has a very good aftercare program from what I can tell, better than some of the other places I have researched. She has you take a test to make sure you understand the risks of surgery, and she tells you all of the risks.
So far, overall I am impressed. My surgery date is Nov 5. That's only because I could not do it sooner,she could have done it at the beginning of Oct.
I met with Dr Clayton just yesterday, 4/21 and I was very impressed! She does a one on one meeting with you and actually hears everything you say. She totally addressed all the risks of surgery and I feel totally comfortable with her as my surgeon.
Sheilah Clayton is a wonderful Dr. She is straight to the point and honest about all aspects of the surgery. She is also very caring and supportive. I recommend her to everyone that asks me about my surgery.
I know of two people in my area that had surgery with her and none of us have any post-surgery problems. The other two people had lap and I had open.
She is competent and has a good bedside manner also.
The only drawback that I see, is that she is far away from where I live. If I need anything I can always make an appointment.
I don't have anything negative, because she basically gave me my life back.
I am impressed with the professionalism and the wonderful success her previous patients have had with her. I listened to her speak at a workshop provided by Spectrim at Brotman Medical Center in Culver City and I have attended their support groups.
They have a comprehensive support/after care program which was so important to me - with a therapist, support groups, nutritionist and an excellent surgeon.
Dr. Clayton takes her work and this surgery very seriously, which I appreciate as I've been researching and making this decision over the past two years. She may not seem like a touchy feely person, but I want an excellent surgeon and not a new friend.
So far I am extremely pleased.....My surgery is in two weeks. I'm so excited. I've cleaned my cupboard, my cookbook collection and purchased the necessary vitamins, soups, protein powders, etc. I am so ready to have the surgery.
God has opened the doors and I feel extremely grateful.
Wasn't sure at first whether I liked the Spectrim program at Brotman Medical. Culver City is not the nicest part of LA. But after meeting with Dr. Clayton, I knew I wanted her to be my surgeon. She is extremely forthright and makes sure you know what you are doing. She lets you know the benefits as well as the risks. The office staff seems competent except they keep messing with my insurance. Says they have submitted it but blue shield says not. Could be the insurance company though.
After going through my pre-op requirements, I have decided Brotman is going to be good. I was pleased with how they treated me and the way they looked at everything. I don't think I have ever been poked and proded so much.
I also decided there are parts of Culver City that are ok. Sony Pictures is on the other side of Brotman and that neighborhood seems much nicer.
Dr. Clayton is a remarkable woman. She is really a great doctor. SHe has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. She is supportive and always helpful even now.
Here's my story. Dr. Clayton was not my first choice but upon reading the reviews on this website and meeting her - I know that God intervened so that she would be my surgeon of choice. I was scheduld to have the surgery done by another surgeon and another facility - which can only be described as a "four star" facility. My insurance would not pay for the facility so a friend suggested I check out this website for legal assistance in my pursuit. What I found instead was info about the Brotman Center and the good doctor. With my first conversation with Ilene the program coordinator I was so impressed by her friendliness and professional that I immediately stopped my pursuit of utilizing the "four star" facility. Although the other top graded facility was near my home, I was impressed by Ilene and the Brotman program. At the first surgeon's office, the staff was always in a rush and when I finally did get to see the surgeon (after several cancellations on his part) I was rather disappointed for I did all the talking he hardly said anything then I was given a list of doctors for my pre-ops and told I was responsible for making all appointments. Not so at Spectrim, Ilene treated me like I was the most important patient she had and has held my hand throughout this process and always acts like she has time for me. And when I met Dr. Clayton, she was so thorough and thoughtful and WARM. I can't say enough about either of them. I can only reinterate what others have said - I wouldn't put my life in anyone else's hands in Southern California.
