'My husband and I first met Dr. Lord at his April seminar at Sacred Heart Hospital. Both of us were incredibly impressed with him and all of his staff. They were all incredibly knowledgable

When I first saw Dr. Lord it was at one of his seminars in July of 05. I thought he was kind of cocky, but that was okay because he had a short period of time to sell himself and his abilities. When I finally had a chance to have an appointment with him I knew what I saw on that night was confidence. He was a real softy with a sense of humor. My surgery was 4/12/06 and it went off without a hitch. The only pain I had was from the drain he placed. I told him if he removed the drain I would be fine. Well, I lost that battle, he took it out the day of discharge. He spoke to me like I was a patient not a nurse and I appreciated that. He has a wonderful bedside manner, his staff is very professional from office to unit. I am seven days post-op with no pain, never had nausea or vomiting or any other issues. I would highly recommend him to everyone.

The first time I saw Dr. Lord was at one of his seminars. I was very impressed. He was very confident, excited about what he did and
had a great personality. When I met him in his office, he definitely put me at ease, as did his whole staff. Dr. Lord and his staff treated me as if we had been friends for years. He was very interested in what I had to say and he answered all my questions where I could understand. I was very surprised at all the pre-op tests ordered and so thankful, since I had so many health issues and just not a very good candidate for surgery. He made sure I understood all the risks involved in WLS. After surgery, Dr Lord has a structured aftercare program which is just great. I had researched and researched WLS but after surgery I found there was still so many things I didn't know.
The support groups give me a chance to talk with patients on the same journey as me and compare notes. I really do not know how to rate Dr. Lord. There has only been one perfect person in this world, but on a scale of 1-10, I would rate his performance as a surgeon 9.5. This is definitely, in my book, one surgeon, whose healing hands are being guided by a higher power. He is a very competent surgeon and I cannot find anything wrong with his bedside manner. A patient wants a surgeon that is confident and believes in himself and cares about the patient.

Today, I am 5 days post-op after having the lap band procedure. I feel great. Look forward to the rest of my life. I'M AMAZED THAT IT ONLY TAKES HALF A CUP OF JELLO TO FILL ME UP.
Although, I have thought many times about having WLS, I originally started to seriously consider having WLS in about November of last year. I went to Dr Lord's Seminar in January of this year. I saw Dr Lord in his office for my initial visit on 2/10/06. My surgery was 4/5/6. It all has happened so much faster than I could have ever imagined.
I would have not proceeded with the surgery unless I felt comfortable with the doctor and his staff. Dr. Lord put me at ease from my very first visit. The questions he answered and his staff answered are the reasons that I proceeded with the surgery.
Since my surgery last week, I must say that things have been great. No side effects or problems at all since coming home. The staff on the Bariatric Floor of the hospital were great and very pleasant. Several of them are post op as well, and each of them offered their advice.

After 5 month, and feeling amazing...I have to tell you Dr. Lord that I love you in the most professional/platonic way! Thank you for giving me my life back.

My first impression of Dr. Lord was that he was not the cocky arrogant type of Dr. that I have dealt with in the past. He seems to really be the type to roll up his sleeves and dig in the trenches with you. The staff members that I have spoke to and met with have been very friendly, approachable, real individuals. The importance of aftercare is very highly focused on. At this point I believe he has the competence and bedside manner that will help me transition into the thinner and healthier version of me I've been waiting to meet. I have not had any negative experiences at this time.

OK where do i start. Dr Lord is an outstanding Dr. and human being. He has saved my life. My first impression of him was about his name. How can anyone go wrong there. Than when i met him everything changed. For the better that is. He lives up to his reputaion and name. He is loved and, well respected by so many. Jan Carlos is an amazing woman. SHe is caring loving and kind. both Dr. Lord and Jan think nothing of themselves. It is all about us. They catre for you from the time you decide to have the surgery to well after. I am 2 years out and if i have any issuses i can call on them for advise or help. They always maje me feel like i am the only one. I loved the support group meeting they had when they were in Virginia. I was warned time and time again about all the riskes. I knew full well what i was getting into i acceptied it with open arms. I did have a problem after surgery that was no fault of the Dr's. I had whats called a stricture. So i lost alot of weight the first 3 months. I had to have a camera thing with a ballon on the end of it to fix the problem. Once that was fixed i started to slow down a little cassue now i could eat. 2 years later i just gave birth to twins and they are 10 weeks and i am almost at my pre preganncy weight. I gained 38 lbs while carrying my boys. I can not rate the surgical competence, bedside manner or him as a human cause there are no scales that go that high. I am forever greatful to Dr. Lord, Dr. Fontana and Jan for all there care, support, love, guidence, or the ocational kick in the A**.

My first impression of Dr. Lord was that he was very knowledgable, a caring professional with strong surgical competence, and a perfectionist- which is exactly the type of physician I want to do surgery on me. I had already been researching surgical weight loss for 6 months and then I attended 4 of his weight loss seminars and knew he was the perfect physician for me.

He is very thorough in his preop evaluation of each patient in order to avoid any post op complications; therefore, there are numerous tests and physician clearances to complete prior to surgery. He is so easy to talk to, down to earth, very likable and has a sense of humor too.

My impression of him over time stayed the same. I was so interested in surgical weight loss that I went to work as an RN on the surgical weight loss unit and I discovered how much Dr. Lord truly cares about his patients. He even calls late at night to make sure they are doing ok.

His office staff is magnificent. They are a team wanting the best positive outcome for the patients. Aftercare is stressed and is of utmost importance post op.

I have such confidence in Dr. Lord and he is the only physician that I would have perform my gastric bypass surgery.

I absolutely fell in love with Dr. Lord, he has a way with people that just makes you feel as if you've known him your entire life. I remember my second visit with him. I was talking about wanted to be pretty and he laughed and said "girl you are going to be hot." Geez, make a fat girl blush why dont ya hahahaha.
He is so full of humor, compassion and wisdom. Never once did he disregard my questions or concerns. he answered everything with candor and a whole lotta humor...
After surgery I was probably the biggest baby he had ever had to deal with and he treated me with kid gloves... He walked me through recovery like I was his only patient, and let me tell you I am not easy to deal with when I am sore, poor guy hehe... But he was wonderful...
people ask me if I would have the surgery again, and my answer is always "Ten more times if Jeff Lord is gonna do it."

My first impression of Dr. Lord was at one of the Support Group seminars. He came in while the seminar was in progress and before I knew it he was all involved in it. Answering questions, talking and all the while apologizing that he was hogging the floor when it was actually his staffs show.

I attended three of the monthly support group meetings before my surgery and he was always in the middle of them. I liked that. When I had my pre-op appointment, he was the same guy. Not in a hurry, constantly quizzing me on information that any patient should know. I had never had a medical history as detailed as the one he took on me

There wasn't anything I did not like about the man. Personality wise, he is unlike any doctor I have ever had.

Future patients should know that he is very serious about his work. Future patients should know that you must attend the support groups, you must follow the dietary requirements, you must keep your appointments and you must be serious about all of the risks and benefits of the surgery.

You must commit to a lifetime of aftercare and his entire staff is involved in your aftercare. I ate somethings that were not on my stage three diet plan and told Jan who inturn told Traci. When I went in to the office I had to have a nutrition session with Traci. You might call it a "Have you lost your mind?" lecture on what comprises a Stage Three diet and why it lasts for six weeks regardless of how I think I feel or what I think I can eat.

Dr. Lord was very blunt about the risks of the surgery. He doesn't mince words.

Overall, I am glad it was Dr. Lord who did my surgery.

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? Both are great, but I will forgo bedside manner any day in favor of surgical competence. However, I would rather not have to forgo either.

My brother was not happy about me having WLS. I have six brothers and no sisters. My Big Brother thinks I belong to him and he's more than a little protective. He hassled the Doctor the morning of my surgery. Dr. Lord handled him with style and grace. My brother grugingly decided that Dr. Lord was worthy and more than competent to do my surgery.

The only thing that I wasn't happy about was having my pre-surgical labs done in September when my surgery did not get scheduled until November. So at my pre-op registration the staff there did see fit to repeat the more critical labs.

These are just my personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am making no statements about what other perple may experience.
