My first impression was that Dr. Nusbaum was very informative and I felt comfortable w/ him. All his office staff was very helpful and patient, especially Wanda J. and Jessica. He's a sticklar for aftercare. I had surgery at Saint Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ and he's also part of Saint Barnabas Ambulatory in Livingston, NJ which is an awesome facility where they have pre and post surgical meetings. Overall I couldn't have picked a better Doctor.

My FIRST impression of Dr. Nusbaum was that he LOOKED TOO YOUNG to have had the experience I had hoped to find. I was wrong...in person you could see he was not a kid and his experience speaks for itself. I was very confident BEFORE I met himt hat he was the right surgeon for me, He was the 3rd one I met before I decided. Upon my consultantion and actually meeting him he made me feel very comfortable and went into great detail about the surgery and procedures ahead. He was patient and answered all my questions. His staff is also wonderful. The fulltime coordinator, Wanda, was really great. I called and had many conversations with her before and then after the surgery. I was anxious to get on the calendar and once all the paperwork and approvals were done, she/they did everything they could to accomadate me and my schedule...even moving me to the end of a Tuesday, instead of having me wait until the Thursday, because it worked better with my husbands schedule and my need to make sure he would be there for my kids! rnrnDr. Nusbaums manurism is rather layed back... he made me feel relaxed and confident that I was in good hands..and I was.rnrnFor me the only drawback is/was that he is pretty far away, over an hour and a half, and his support services are also where he is. I havent been able to utilize them and have had to piece together the people I needed for the pre-certifications and testing and the after support. Of course I COULD go to South Orange NJ for all of this, but it is too far and time consuming for me. I DO go for my check ups and will continue to . rnrnOverall I would rate HIM as an excellent choice!

Dr. Nusbaum gave a great presentation of the RNY, and he made me feel very confident that I would be safe and successful. He's very conscientious, charismatic and confident. I understand he is the best in NJ. So, I feel blessed to have him. Wanda, a coordinator, is also sweet, patient and reassuring. Jessica is nice, but she can be rough around the edges. Nonetheless, the whole staff is very helpful and accomodating. I do wish that he and his staff would give patients a broader overview of the whole process from the beginning. I've basically been feeling around in the dark for the next step. Had I known the process, I would have gone through the pre-op testing while I was waiting for approval. That's all I can say for now. I'll tell you more when after October 5.

I met with Dr. Nusbaum on 9/1/2006. I had been to a consultation with another doctor who seemed very negative to me, but Dr. Nusbaum was great. rnrnSo far the staff is very nice, and quite helpful. All of my information isn't collected yet to send in for insurance approval, but I know exactly what's missing and how to get it. rnrnAfter care is very much stressed. Everyone talks about support groups and nutrition counseling.

Dr. Nussbaum saved my life. I had a gastric bypass 15 years ago at University Hospital by Dr. Rush. Back then everything was different. I had a big cut on my entire stomach and it took me weeks just to get out of the hospital. Now I wouldn't say the first surgery was a failure but I gained back all the weight. Dr. Nussbaum told me that I had a type of bypass that was very common back then called a VBG. The problem was that the staples broke and my stomach opened up to normal again. That's why I could eat just like I did before my surgery. Dr. Nussbaum explained everything to me and then sent me for tests to confirm what he thought. Then I went back to him for another visit. He didn't even charge me for the second visit and spent about a half hour going over the tests and how he was going to fix the stomach. After that, I had no doubt that he was the one to help me. I had heard about him from another patient of Dr. Rush's who also had her surgery corrected by Dr. Nusbaum. So, I flew up from Georgia as soon as she told me that he had helped her.rnDr. Nusbaum did an amazing job! He corrected the surgery laparoscopicly and I was out of bed that night and walking the hallways. NOw I'm almost six months out and I'm almost at my goal. I'm off my glucaphage and pressure meds. My medical guy can't believe it. He want's to send patients to him too. Thanks so much Dr. Nussbaum. I can't repay you for giving me my life back.

Dr. Nusbaum is clearly someone that is committed to lifelong learning and continuous improvement when it comes to reducing/eliminating complications due to weight loss surgey. His attention to detail -- things like the extra suturing that he explains on his web site, and using an operating table that tilts up at a 75-degree angle so that he doesn't have to use clamps to pull down the stomach during the surgery -- set him apart from other surgeons that I met. rnrnI also like the fact that he worked to learn how to do laproscopic surgery from the very beginning in his med school days. Being a good surgeon does not always translate into being adept at using this new equipment which is why some doctors still cutting open the entier abdomen and increasing the risk of infection and time needed to heal.rnrnI also appreciate the time he spent at the hospital with my wife and dad, reassuring them that everything was under control and likewise reassuring me.rnrnThere is an insurance settlement on Dr Nusbaum's record from before he began doing bariatric surgery and he was very up front with me in explaining the events leading up to the settlement when I had the consultation with him. I left that first visit satisfied that the settlement was the case of a patient not following the doctors orders and then suffering complicaitons as a result of stupidity followed by an Insurance company paying a minimal amount to the patient rather than continue to litigate. Doing a background check on a new doctor is always a good thing but should not be your only criteria when finding a surgeon. Especially in a State like NJ that makes it way too easy to sue doctors -- caused my wife's OBGYN to leave the state due to the rising malpractice premiums here.

Dr. Nusbaum is a wonderfull Dr...When I first met him i was amazed to see how a young Dr. can accomplish so much and change the lives of so many people. I felt very comfortable around him and the day of my surgery he was right there when I woke up to explain how everything went. My mother and best friend were also very pleased to see how he updated them after surgery and gave them a picture my new band.

Dr. Nusbaum has a warm personality that gives comfort when discussing concerns, theories, and options. He is very encouraging and willing to answer any question that is asked. rnrnBefore my surgery he gave me a list of things; find a nutritionist, a trainer, and a therapist; he wanted me to do before and after my surgery along with a list of people that will assistant me if I need to be help moving in the right direction. rnrnHe and his staff checked on me constantly while I was in the hospital. The program is outstanding, they touch on every emotional and physical need while in their care. The nurses are educated to answer concerns in betweeen the alloted time you spend with a doctor. St. Barnabas takes great care of their patients.rnrnI love him and would recommend him to anyone interested in having the surgery or have health concerns and wanted to weigh their options. I have suggested him to several people now that I've had my surgery and he treats me post op instead of pre-op.rnrnrnrn

Dr. Nusbaum is very personable, informative, and straightforward. These qualities added to his knowledge, competency, and reputation as a good surgeon. His medical staff and case manager Wanda are top notch, being in the health care industry, I've come across many mediocre staff and physicians, in this case it is the opposite end of the spectrum! FYI: I was approved for the surgery in a matter of less than a week from my initial consultation (I had most of my clearances done prior to my initial consult).
