My first impression of Dr. Ren was how dedicated she was towards her patients and to WLS.

My impressions of Dr. Ren never changed, she was great the whole time. I wound up having a complication and had an extended hospital stay, but I would do it all over again.

I had no problems with the office staff.

Future patients of Dr. Ren should realize she is very busy now, but her and her staff do all they can to treat you like an individual.

She went over Risk/Benefits very thouroughly with me.

I would rate Dr. Ren a 10 on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest)

Everything about her, Surgical Competance, Bedside manner, all great. It was a truly wonderful experience, even with my post-op complications.

My first impression of Dr. Ren was one which I still hold today. She is a very friendly Doctor who truely cares about her patients. Her bedside manner is the best and her staff is excellent. She explained everything in detail and took all the time needed. She is an excellent Doctor and I have recommended her to anyone interested in having bypass surgery.

Dr. Fielding is an awesome individual to deal with. He really takes the nervous out of you. He did try to push the lap band on me, since he himself had it done. But I told him with my commitments, it was not an option. He made sure I was aware of the Pros and Cons of everything. But doing nothing about my weight would kill me too. I trust in his abilties. Trust me, I researched him to the tee. His credentials speak for themselves. I also actually had a good time. We were cracking jokes. Let's just say you will be at ease. I'm all set with him for the 17th of December pending insurance approval.

Dr.Ren is a wonderful surgeon and person. She really understands your needs and goes out her way to make you comfortable. Office staff is also very very helpful and friendly. They really emphasize aftercare and have a very good structured aftercare program. Dr.Ren addressed all the risks of surgery very well and I would rate her as A +++!

Dr. Ren was very well informed and I felt confident having her as my surgeon after speaking with her and attending her seminar. She was the third surgeon I had seen. The main reason I chose her, she did the procedure lapriscopically, she is consevative and cautious and is committed to making this a life-long commitment with you.Nothing negative yet, except that I was more pro-active with getting an answer with my insurance company then the people in her office. It's 6 days since I got verbal approval from my insurance company, 5 days from my surgery date, and Dr. Ren's office still has not contacted me to tell me I was approved for surgery.

10/18/04-- I met Dr. George fielding today. He is soooo nice. I felt confident with him from reading about him beforehand and I was very pleased when I was face to face with him. I knew he was pro lap-band because he had one done on himself and 98% of his office handles that although he's very experienced in all areas of bariatric surgery. My cousin and her friend came with me because it was a requirement to have a family member or partner there with you in case you faint, i guess. So, we sat down (I got the biggest chair i have ever seen and there was still room in it while i was sitting there i'm happy to say). We talked about the procedure and what would happen and then he mentioned he had it done and he was very happy with it..it was then i realized he was talking about the lap-band. I asked at that point ,"Do you know I'm interested in getting the gastric bypass surgery?" He hadn't and then asked why. I explained to him my reasoning for not wanting the lap-band without saying anything offensive because he had it done. So, needless to say it was a long consultation bc my cousin and her friend tried to talk me into getting the band while we were sitting there in front of Dr. Fielding. It was a bit annoying and embarassing that they didn't wait until we left to start talking. we were wasting Dr. Fielding's time and there was still so much I wanted to know. So Dr. Fielding said if I chose to I had until the morning of the surgery to change my mind. We then set a tentative date (pending my insurance company ) for Dec. 13th of this year which is fine with me bc I'll be given medical clearance for classes. My cousin asked "What would happen if she didn't get the surgery?" my cuz is trying to be supportive but she needs to know more of the facts. He very bluntly said that my cholesterol will hit the roof and my chance for diabetes would sky rocket, i'd most likely blow up like a house and there is of course a chance I wouldn't be able to carry a child in the future and may possibly die very young. So she got the picture there. He was amazing overall. He carefully explained the pros and cons and risks of each surgery so I fully understood everything. I would reccommend him to anyone. The remainder of the day was crazy. I'm trying to drive in the city in areas i'm not familiar with --my cousin and her friend in the car trying to convince me. Argghhhh!! I just couldn't deal with it. So after I made a decision a year ago to do the surgery, I was reconsidering the band all day and driving myself crazy. I called everyone that knows about the surgery and gave all the statistics to each and every one of them and finally my parents (my dad was against it ) but they both agreed I should do the bypass. So that's what i'm doing.

I was very concerned at first becasue I heard some negative but they ended up being absolutely wrong. I had the lap band surgery and hernia repair at the same time. I didnt know before about the hernia. I was really sick and there she was in my room at my bedside checking up on me. A few days later when I was resting up at home I became dehydrated (because I hardly drank) with chest pain and more. I called the ems and when they arrived they tried reaching Dr. Ren who was at the time in LA and it didnt take more than a few minutes and she returned their call. She wouldnt hang up until she spoke to me directly to hear EXACTLY how I feel (it was about 3:00 am and they woke her up). The next day one of the office staff called to inquire about my well being. Regarding the office staff they definitely are very nice and show their concern. Some of the staff have the lap band as well and that makes it more comfortable for us patients because we know they understand us wholeheartedly since they are or were going through the same thing. I only had great experiences with her staff, Priscilla who answers the phone is a sweetheart, Mary is exceptionally nice and Veronice who takes care of getting your insurance approval will work non stop untill that approval comes through, and most of all she notified us almost immediately so we should be at ease. Barry the nutritionist is beyond words, we had a most wonderful experience with her. Gio and the other boys are a pleasure to work with. I definitely recommend her to thers who want to do the surgery. She has charm and that makes it a pleasant experience.
Aftercare is just as important and she makes sure we follow the protocol. Her instructions are clear and simple. She provided me with literature and I was well informed before my surgery.

Dr.Ren is an amazing woman. She is smart, attractive, and has, hands down, the best bedside manner I have ever seen in a surgeon (and I've had several surgical experiences over the years). She is truly concerned with the well-being of her patients, and is always (even on Sundays!) available. I know this because the day after I got home from surgery, which was on a Sunday, I called her office with a question about gas and nausea. I expected a surgical fellow or nurse to get back to me, but Dr. Ren called me back within minutes. I could not imagine a better experience with a doctor. Furthermore, everyone in her staff is great, even the interns that she is training have a great attitude. You can tell these guys like working with her - they look really relaxed and confident.
Before surgery, Dr. Ren was completely honest about the risks and drawbacks of surgery. She gives an approximately two-hour presentation at the general interest meeting, and, when she meets you in person, takes time to answer all your questions. To simplify your life, try to schedule your first appointment to see her and schedule the nutritionist at close to the same time, so that you don't have to keep going back to the office. Parking is not cheap, and driving around Manhattan is not for the faint of heart. Dr. Huberman, the psychologist who works with Dr. Ren, is also helpful and easy to talk to. And Barrie Wolf, the nutritionist, is great. Not only was she a big help before the surgery (Dr. Ren wants you to be on a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery, so I called Barrie when it became painfully obvious that the liquid diet was simply not doable. I also called her last week, when I had a problem with a period of weight gain, and I was worried about what to do. In both situtions, she called me back in a reasonable amount of time, stayed on the phone with me for a half hour, and really answered all my questions and gave me a lot of helpful information).

I initially attended the informational session hosted by Dr. Fielding- I must confess that I was VERY comfortable at the session- the fact that Dr Fielding had a lap band made me feel right at home- His commitment to stay and answer any question anyone had showed me where his heart was.

While I was initially Dr. Rens patient- and I met with her I had to switch to Dr Fielding for insurance purposes- I really liked Dr Ren but I also really like Dr Fielding so either way is great

Im looking so forward to my surgery and the changes it wil bring !!
