NYU Langone Weight Management Program Bariatric Center
I immediately felt comfortable with Dr. Ren. She felt like a real and caring person. She did not look at me with a judging eye. She spoke with us for about an hour and my boyfriend - the personal trainer - agreed with her about everything. He loved her! She was so honest about the risks and gave us good and bad examples - no names! She also discussed what things I would have to change or gives up (non-medical consequences like giving up steak). I felt like I would have no problem speaking with her. rnrnEveryone in the office is so nice, they really make you feel welcomed. Gaspar (Nurse )is hilararious! The office is immaculate, welcoming, and comfortable to be in. They are very detailed. I had to take a quiz before the 2 week liquid diet! When choosing between Ren and Fielding, I was worried that Ren had less experience than Fielding. However, there was nothing to worry about - she has been trained by one of the best and she has the skills.rnrnAftercare is essentially. We are supposed to call in or email with all questions. The doctor went straight to my family after the surgery to let them know how it went and answer questions. I go in on Monday for my first post-op check-up.rnrnMy doctor has skill and a great bedside manner - plus she makes herself available. Dr. Ren gets a 10 out of 10 (Outstanding! Amazing!)
As a doctor myself I can say Dr. Fielding is one of the most renowed lap band surgeons in the US. He has performed over 4000 lap band cases and has published extensively in the area. As a person Dr. Fielding is a gem, incredibly easy to talk to and very compassionate. Dr. Fielding has had the Lap Band on himself! So he completely understands what you are going through. Overall you would be extremely lucky to have this surgeon, so much so that I decided to leave the hospital I work at to have surgery with him.

Dr. Fielding was just great! Very proffessioal, kind, and to the point. He was very encouraging. Dr. Fielding did not minimize the fact that I was a low BMI. He encouraged me to go ahead with the procedure, since I shared with him that I've been battling my weight all my life, and was really depressed over my latest weight gain. When Aetna denied my sugery, Dr. Fielding was kind enough to inform me tgat due to some comobidities, I would qualify for the NYU Study of Surgery for Weight Loss for Individuals With Low BMI, at a substantially reduced fee (all inclusive). That was very kind of him. It made my out-of-pocket costs for the surgery more tolerable.
I had researched the Lap band for 2 years. When I made the decision to go with it I went to 2 information sessions. One with Dr. Fielding and the other, I won't say. Well Dr. Fielding blew me and my friend away. She was so excited she kept punching me in the leg, saying - He's the one!
He is so compassionate and passionate about his work. As a patient I found the entire group to be informative. They take time with you to answer all your questions and don't let you leave until you are at ease and satisfied with the answers. Even the billing staff went overboard to help me get approval with my husbands Union insurance.
There wasn't anything negative about any of my experience. The follow-ups are urged for your own benefit. They also have support meetings once a month.
I have problems with Arthritis and spinal disc degeneration. Since the surgery, my weight loss has enabled me to be more active and I have more energy. This has helped ease the pain tremendously.
Overall I rate Dr. Fielding with a 10 plus. I highly recommend him. I do feel that surgical competence and bedside manner should go hand in hand and Dr. Filding was there with a true, reassuring smile every step of the way.
My first impression of Dr. Fielding was very positive. I came to him desperately trying to find out why my band wasn't working for me. After a series of tests, Dr. Fielding determined that my band was fine, even though I had little success over almost two years. He got me back on track. I only wish he was my surgeon from the very start. I highly recommend him and his team.
My first impression of Dr. Fielding was even before I met him, as I attended the information session with his partner Dr. Ren, although she made a fabulous impression, I was drawn to the fact that Dr. Fielding had undergone the Lap Band surgery himself, I did extensive research, and was very comfortable with the choice. When I met him in person, it was very assured I had made a good choice. The office staff on the whole is really nice, with a hundred thanks to Gaspar one of the nurses-he is incredibly nice, and Barrie the nutritionist who is beautiful inside and out. I hope to get to know all the staff over time. I am having surgery in a week and will be able to update at a future time.
Dr Fielding also operates in Australia. He has undergone weight loss surgery himself, so fully understanding. He is extremely busy, so you never feel that you get enough time with him.
He is very strong in recommending aftercare.
He does have a structured aftercare programme.
I rate him very highly.
His surgical competence is his greatest asset. His bedside manner is kind, but short.
Dr. Fielding is a wonderful and very skilled surgeon. He and Dr. Christine Ren work out of NYU medical center and provide complete follow-up.
Dr. Fielding is no-nonsense and needed to know that I really knew what I was getting into. He wanted to make sure the decison was right for me.
The aftercare program is very structured, with an in-house nutritionist.
I would rate Dr. Fielding, and the whole NYU Surgical Weight Loss center, excellent.
