both are very good
So far I am very pleased with Dr. Garber. He appears to be very compassionate. When I asked my retiring PCP about this surgery he told me to pay close attention to the operation (how his office was run). The operation speaks volumes he said. Well Dr Garber's is a very busy operation. To be completely honest, his office has really carried the load for me during this entire process. I appreciate that. Donna the PA has been especially helpful and patient. Kudos. A good family friend told me earlier this year that he had done bucketloads of research on Bariatric surgeons in the LI, NY area and Dr. Garber was the best. So far I'd say he was right on target.

With that said, I miss my old PCP and the time and attention he gave me. As pleased as I am with Dr. Garber, he's running a business. Sometimes his office is very, very, busy and so is he. Of course this is true of most doctors' offices now-a-days.

9/5/03 - Vadim Gritsus, M.D. (Lincoln Park, NJ) I met Dr. Gritsus today with my husband. He is a kind, caring, smart, talented doctor. He takes the time to explain what the surgery entails, the risks, what happens in the OR, hospital, discharge, and aftercare. He is concerned that you have support at home and welcomes family members and friends. He encourages you to ask any questions and to actively participate in your plan of care. He answers you honestly and frankly. He lets you know that he is there for you 24/7 and will not let your phone calls go unanswered. He particularly stresses how important the aftercare is and that he and Dean will continue to monitor your progress in your follow up appointments. Dr. Gritsus has monthly support meetings and gives continuous patient education. He lets you know that after surgery we will have a long term relationship filled with support, education, guidance and celebration as we lose weight and our health improves. He is very thorough in the pre-op process - lots of tests to determine all of your medical conditions, but the reasoning behind the tests is that he wants to give me the best possible care and have the best outcome. I am very happy in my choice of surgeons. I feel he is a gifted surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone considering the Lap RNY surgery or the Lap Band. Dr. Gritsus also works with a great Physician's Assistant, Dean, who was very kind, friendly and very thorough in interviewing me. He also made it known that he is there to answer any questions. If any questions remained in my mind I know I could call their office and receive an answer. He said they welcome feedback from their patients and they’ll continue to meet my changing needs. They make a great team! The whole office staff is very professional, show genuine concern for their patients, and are very helpful with applying for insurance approval, financing suggestions, drafting/sending letters to doctors, and retrieving medical records. They take their time with you on the phone and never rush you. My messages are always promptly passed on. My dealings with this practice has always been positive!!
My surgeon was Dr. Shawn Garber. I am very impressed with him, particularly, his confidence. Although I did get freaked out before my surgery, I always knew that I was in very capable hands.
His staff is wonderful and very accommodating. I feel completely taken care of when I am at his office. The only thing I would say is to be patient when waiting as there seems to always be a long wait for him.
One of the reasons I feel great about using Dr. Garber is because, he was very thorough before, during and after surgery. The fact that I can reach him personally at anytime of day, really made a huge difference for both my husband and I. His emphasis on before and after care was phenomenal! I feel as though every step of this commitment was thoroughly explained to me.
If you are in the NY or NJ area, RUN don’t walk to use Dr. Garber for this life altering surgery. He is simply the best of the best!
My first impression of Dr. Shawn Garber was that I knew that my life was going to be in GREAT hands. He is very knowledgeable and caring. Any concerns that I had he put at ease. Over time and getting to know more about Dr. Garber it only made me feel more and more secure to know that i'm going to the BEST. The office staff as well as Dr Garber are SO caring, respectful, and prompt with answering any questions or concerns that I have had. There is nothing that I have not liked about being a patient of Dr Garber's. Aftercare is an extremly important part of staying healthy and keeping the weight off and it is something that Dr Garber does not take lightly. Dr Garber's office has a structured aftercare program and an unbelievable staff that is alway's there for you at any time. One of the first things that Dr Garber addresses is that it is major surgery and he goes over with you the risks and possible complications that could arise. Over all I have had an outstanding experiance being a patient of Dr Garber's and know that I will continue to as well.
I have met with Dr. Garber several times now since my surgery and must say I am VERY HAPPY I chose him as my surgeon. I must also give kudos to Donna - his PA. They are both very thorough, professional, and caring in all that they do. I don't feel uncomfortable calling them or asking a question via e-mail because they are always kind and willing to help you with anything you need no matter how minor. I never feel like I am being a bother or asking a stupid question. More doctors should take some patient care lessons from Dr. Garber and his staff.
I met Dr Garber on Friday, January 30, 2004. My first impression of him was that he was kind, knowledgeable, and experienced. I felt that he send a message that bariatrics is what he is completely dedicated to and it made me feel good to know that a person whom I am entrusting to provide me with surgical services is doing it for good reasons and a true passion for helping bariatric patients. His office staff is wonderful, and very patient! They were not snippy or rude, and are very flexible in trying to get your needs made. After care is discussed at the first meeting and it importance is emphasized a lot the risks of surgery were addressed in a straight forward, clear and concise manor. Then he took time to answer any questions or misconceptions I had. So far in the pre op part of my journey I rate him as excellent!
