New York Bariatric Group Bariatric Center
Okay, I have switched my surgeon. I met with Dr. Garber today (06/14/07) and he was fantastic. He answered my questions and allowed me the time I needed to make sure we covered everything. He also made it clear that if any questions come up, I can always contact them or email him directly.rnrnThey are organized and everything is laid out for you in an easy to understand manner. I look forward to this journey and the anxiety has dissipated.rnrnDr. Garber is a good surgeon and it is evident that he knows what he is doing. The technique he uses when stapling and sealing the connections was one of my big concerns. He explained it clearly and my mind is at ease. rnrnOh, just bring a novel to read as the wait is long, but well worth it. Also, do not be surprised if you run into someone from this website while you are sitting there. I felt like I was meeting celebrities, right off the pages of obesityhelp.com.
When I met Dr. Garber I immediatley felt very comfortable talking to him. I was very nervous about this surgery and he was just so confident . He really explained every detail to me making sure I understood what it was I was having done. His office staff was amazing I never had a problem with any of my paperwork. Dr. Garber has an awesome bedside manner. I feel this is very important because this was a scary time in my life and having a Dr. take such good care of me and reassure me that the outcome was going to be great .Hei s blessed with a gift not only surgical but he makes you feel like you are his only patient although he is extremly busy. i truly feel he changed my life in a way I thought no one or nothing could. I am so happy I have made this deciosn and that I chose the best surgeon for the job. When you do your research you wil find that Dr. Garber is the best in his field and that there is no comparison just read other patient comments. rnA++++++rnrnI would also like to comment on two amazing people Anna Stoessel the Bariatric coordinator at Mercy she is an unbelievable nurse she is so compasssionate. She is a true true angel. She defines a true nurse.Thank you AnnarnrnAnd Ann Boland who is an Rn at Mercy she is awesome loving and caring. Everyone should be lucky enough to have her take care of them.
My first impression of Dr. Holover, seeing him through the reception window, was \"Hey he's kinda cute, hope that's my surgeon!\" And yes, it was him. My second impression is, wow he 's young! He is very down-to-earth, and answered every question I had. He showed me diagrams and models of the stomach/Lap Band and made sure to discuss the pros and cons of both procedures.rnHis office staff is friendly, and the office seems to run very smoothly. They have a definite system here, which I like. rnYes there is aftercare for the rest of your life. They require their patients to see them frequently, at first and then less frequently as time goes on. They also have a support group for pre and post op patients.rnDr. Holover explained all the risks associated with the surgery, even the ones that rarely ever happen. Some of the risks, like blood clots are risks with surgery in general.rnI couldn't really say what I liked least about him. I liked him completely.
I met Dr. Cussatti for the first time on 02/23/07 upon recommendation of my PCP. Dr.Andrew Hararah. He takes great pride in his specialty of Laparoscopic Surgery. He is very compassionate to the needs of the bariatric patient; and very straight forward with the actual procedure and potential complications. I feel very comfortable with him as my surgeon. He is happy answers any questions you may need to ask. I would recommend him to anyone considering bariatric surgery. He is a great doctor and His office staff was very professional and friendly.
My \"joke\" about Dr. Gritsus is that he really has no business being a surgeon because he has none of that \"doctor\" ego. Rarely have I been blessed to be treated by a doctor (and staff) who has such empathy and patience for their patients. The best thing about Dr. Gritsus is that he listens; he never made me feel that any question was wrong, or had previously been discussed and needn't be asked again. I felt that I was in good hands, I always felt safe, I always fetl that I was under the care of someone technically competent. rnrnI chose Dr. Gritsus because he was on my plan. Friends who had had the procedure urged me to go to another doctor, but there was no way that I could do this without my insurance covering the costs. However, I decided to STAY with Dr. Gritsus after attending his information session and going for an evaluation visit.rnrnSome people prefer their medical professionals to be just that, strictly professional in the highest degree. I needed to go through this life changing procedure with someone who had that professional capability, a comparable staff, but also with someone who understood what this meant to his patients. I feel I got this in going with Dr. Gritsus.rnrnThe next day....rnrnI wanted to add something about this office. Everyone in the staff is welcoming and accommodating - without Kathy's persistence I don't know long it would have taken the insurance company to come through. And the rest of the desk staff (I'm lousy with names) equally are so nice. Finally, a \"shout out\" to Dean, he has been so conscious and caring through the last few meetings before the surgery and now with my aftercare.rnrnrnC Schoenbrun

My first meeting with Dr. Garber went really well. I cried of course in his office when I began to tell my life story, and he was so compassionate and understanding. I normally have a good intuition about a person and respect first impressions and have walked away from situations in the past because of an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling. I did not get this with Dr. Garber. He knew what he was talking about, answered my questions and explained to me the steps I needed to take. On several occasions, me with all the questions, had emailed him. Within an hour or two he answered me back in detail. I had a great experience with his office staff. The girls seemed very helpful and concerned about my next step. From others, I've heard that they tend to be a bit pre-occupied, but I did not experience this. On serveral occasions, I called the office with a questions and they were always willing to answer them thoroughly. I did a thoroght background investigation on Dr. Garber and Holover through NY State Medical and they both have a flawless history. I can't seem to find anything negative of them. I'll let you know how I rate him after my surgery.......LOL!rnrn4/18/07 - Dr. Garber has been wonderful throughout my almost one year journey. His support group meetings are very helpful and he is always there to talk to directly. My experience has been overwhelming with nothing but good. He is a wonderful doctor. I have not had one complication since, and feel awesome.........please do not hesitate to email me with questions you may have! All the best and thanks for stopping by.! :-)
Dr. Holover made you feel very comfortable. He took the time to go over everthing in detail. I came there with a list of questions and by the time he was done with the consult I didn't even have to ask them because he covered them already. I'm switching to Dr. Garber. The only reason why is because I couldn't get an appointment for a while with Dr. Holiver.
Of course when I was waiting to meet with Dr. Spencer Holover, I was more than nervous. When called into his office for my consultation...all of my nervousness disappeared!! He was soo kind, caring, compassionate and patient. He explained everything to me, from A-Z! I loved that he spoke so educated and knowledgable. He made me feel so at ease. Before going to my consult with him, this was more of a \"maybe\" procedure. But, after meeting with him, speaking with him and asking as many questions as I needed to ask...My mind was made up that this is what I AM going to do..Gastric Bypass.rnrnDr. Holover also performed my Endoscopy at Mercy Medical. He was so kind and helped me to relax from the second I saw his face!!rnrnIf I had to rate him from 1-10, he would definitely deserve a 10.rnrnThe best part of finding a surgeon like rnDr. Spencer Holover is that he is surgically competent as well as having amazing bedside manner!!rnrnI would recommend him to anyone!!
I had met with several surgeons before choosing Dr. Holover. He has such a great personality and was so informative. He told me of all the risks of surgery as well as all the rewards I could look forward to. One of the main reasons that I picked him was because of his office and all of the staff. Everyone was so nice and willing to help. They handle many patients so don't let yourself get caught in the craziness! Another reason was the fact that he likes you to meet with a nutritionist and psychologist both before and after surgery. It comforted me to know that they would help me to eat right and keep my mind on the important things. Dr. Holover has a great bedside manner as well as complete surgical competence. When he was unable to check on me the same day of surgery he sent another surgeon in the practice to see me and made sure to see me the next day. rnI feel completely satisfied with my choice!
