Dr Kini and his staff are all so nice and in new york city it's very rare when so many people are all very friendly at once almost twilight zone-ish. I'm looking forward to my next appt with Dr Kini
I first met Dr. Kini last year in October. He was very helpful in answerign all of my questions. He spirit is so positive and he truly cares about his patients.
His office staff are truly GEMS!!!
Jennifer, whom I share the same birthday with is an extradordinary Nurse! She is compassionate and caring!
Fonda, who is in a class all by herself!! Her heart is of pure gold! She calls to check up on me all the time!
Amy knows her stuff! She was very helpful and pleasant!
Dr. kini addressed all of the risks of surgery professionally, but with compassion. I would recommend him and his staff to anyone in need of this procedure!!!
Not only does Dr. Kini have surgical competence, but his bedside manner is GREAT!!!

I was initally impressed by Dr. Kini's warm and open manner; the time he took to educate me about the procedure, and; the patience he exhibited when he addressed all of my issues and concerns. On the day of surgery and the ensuing post-operative period, I had growned to appreciate Dr. Kini for his rigorous approach to the overall treatment of my health care. To be sure, he is an excellent physician and surgeon. The staff -- particularly, Jennifer Nalle, the Nurse Practitioner and Fonda, the Medical Assistant -- are both exceptional individuals. I felt they were both available and responsive when I had questions or needed assistance. They helped to make my overall experience a positive one.
Seemed Very patient and helpful in explaining options with me. His office semmed a little hectic but Im more concerned with the Surgeon then waiting time. he seems to be a very busy Dr. and after researching found he is the chief of Bariatic Surgey at Mt. Sinai in NYC. Also he is a Associate professor at the Hospital. He has streesed to me that its a 3 way process.
1. he supplies me with the surgery
2. I provide the excercising
3. I keep up with my vitamins
I was told that the Hospital has a large support group that I am entitled to use both before and aft3er my surgery.
He explained to me the Fatality rate is about the same as that of a Gall Bladder removal. Less then 1%.
i am very happy so far with my choice he did come recommended to me by my cousin who has had fantastic results.
I care only about his Surgical Competence. I want to live. To me all the other stuff is trivial. Like complaining about Airline food. forget the Food get me there alive!
My first impression of Dr. Herron can be summed up in one word, relief. I was so nervous about finding a surgeon because I am not fond of doctors, that disappeared within minutes. Over the past 5 months that I have been working with Dr. Herron I have grown to trust him and truly feel confident having him as my surgeon. Dr. Herron's staff is PHENOMINAL! Jennifer his nurse has been so great she has answered every question I've had and has just been excellent. Marcel, Dr. Herron's Medical Assistant has truly been Spectacular. He has been so helpful and even came with me today to have my blood taken, because he wanted to make sure I got the best person to do it, then ended up doing it himself. Dr. Herron has been totally focused on the before and after care of this surgery which is just so vital. His program at Mount Sinai is excellent and I truly feel prepared for this surgery. I would recomend anyone in the tri-state area going to him, he is truly the best!!!
Dr. Kini is excellent! He is nice, helpful, knowledgable and understanding man. In the beginning I was a bit shy to speak to him and ask questions because I felt his staff had pretty much answered everything but he sat there and asked if I had any questions or concerns that I would like to ask him as the surgeon. That really stood out to me because it showed that he was concerned and wanted me to feel comfortable with him. He explained everything so that I understood and also made me feel that everything will be okay. There's something about him that gives that aura of trust. His staff is WONDERFUL, there were so many times when I called and felt like an annoyance and they never once treated me as if I was a bother. Jennifer, Amy and Marcel are all very helpful and understanding. I felt like I was talking to friends most of the time. I'm so glad I came across Mt. Sinai for this everyone there has made this process so much easier.
Dr. Herron was very nice, and very wise. I loved my consultation with him. I had a very bad experience at NYU, and was thinking that surgery might not be for me. However, after meeting Dr. Herron and his staff I am very happy to say that I made the right choice. I am hoping to get the lap band. Let me say that Jennifer the nurse there is so nice, friendly and I feel very comfortable with her. Amy, the nutritionist is very nice also. She knows so much. I am hoping to be able to use Dr. Herron staff in the future. They are all so great. I could not be happier with my decision.
**Please note that I comment on two doctors. Dr. Herron was selected as my surgeon because of the incredible experiences I have had with his office. I felt it important to relay my inital experience that I had with Dr. Kurian's office as a comparison.**
After watching a Discover Channel special and learning about Dr. Kurian I contacted her office by email. I never received a reply. I followed-up with three phone calls over the course of two weeks and left messages and never received a reply. I could not feel comfortable with a Dr. whose office that was not responsive. This may be atypical, but was in fact my experience.
In comparison, it took less than 24 hours for Dr. Herron's office to call me back and his office took a lot of time to answer questions over the phone.
I found Dr. Herron's listing on ObesityHelp.com and after reviewing the Surgeon Profiles I was impressed with Dr. Herron's association/employement with Mt. Sinai. Additionally, his picture on his profile gave off an "approachable" energy which was validated strongly during my initial consultation.
Dr. Herron's office has been incredible to deal with. The combination of himself with Jennifer & Amy, in my honest opinion, creates a "Power House" and "Gold Standard" for how all doctor offices should be. They have been responsive, caring, educating, honest and ultimately have the goal of the patient or potential patient in mind.
During my initial consultation he took over two hours to explain the options, risks and made initial recommendations. My partner and I both felt incredibly comfortable with him.
The Pre-Op packages for evals and nutrition have been comprehensive and easy to understand.
The referrals that the office have given me have all been "top notch" and of the same caliber as their own office. In my opinion, they succesfully create a virtual or extended team of incredible professionals who are responsive and caring.
Dr. Herron's "Whole Team" approach is very successful for what makes me feel comfortable for something of this nature.
Responsiveness, Beside Manner and Surgical Competency are all important to me. And I feel Dr. Herron and his entire extended team has all three.
