Oh, my goodness. Where to start....Dr. Georgen to me is probably one of the nicest people I have ever met. Seriously. he is truly a caring individual who's number one concern is the health of his patients. I overheard a conversation he had with another patient while I was waiting to see him. He told the patient that he was doing great and the patient said "thanks to you" Dr. Georgen actually said..."I didn't do anything. You are the one doing the work" Which is true to a certain extent, but jeez...it literally gives me goose bumps when I think about what a neat guy he is. His being a surgeon aside...he is just cool! I cannot express what his encouragement has meant to me. Even the time he said, "you GO girl!" to me.....words cannot express it adequately.

His office staff is also very pleasant, helpful and encouraging. The nurses Linda, Julie and Betsy have also been a tremendous help to me and my family. The entire staff of Midwest Bariatric Solutions, with the exception of only one individual, has always made me feel like I was the most important person there. All the risks were explained to me before hand the emphais on the aftercare program was explained as well. As far as an overall rating goes...is there such a thing as an A++?

To adress the last question here..which is better...surgical competance or bedside manner....in my opinion Dr.Georegen is an excellent example of both. I would recommend him to anyone. Honestly, I cannot think of anything negative to say about him personally. Perhaps it is a bit of the patient falling in love with the doctor? I don't know. I just think he is great.

~3/07/04~ Finally got to meet and talk with Dr. Wasco. I really like him a lot. He is straight forward and never seems to miss a beat when he is talking. He was prepared to answer all my questions and he didn't seem in a rush to leave, but more like he wanted to stay and be sure I was secure with all the info he was sharing with me.

~11/12/03~Have only met him in the passing and at a meeting. No one on one time yet, but he seems to be very friendly and really know his stuff. While I was visiting a friend after her surgery he came in and had a great bedside manner and was very caring.

Dr. Wasco is awesome. At the meeting he seemed a little dry, but after my meeting with his pre-op I thought he was really cool. He seemed very down-to-earth. He even seemed somewhat humerous. Post-op he was great too. Dr. Georgen also checked on me (as they both perform the surgery together). I would highly recommend both doctors.

My very first impression of Dr. Georgen was how different he was from other doctors. He took all the time you needed to explain things to you.
He still does. He cares about his patients as human beings not just numbers. He is a really careing surgeon.

His office staff , they are great people

Dr Georgen is there for you before and after the surgery.

Any time I've had to call the office or even for evening care he has been there for me.

The risks, yes he told me and made me and my husband understand them.
On a 1-10 scale with 10 being the best I would consider Dr Georgen a 20

I feel surgical cometence is better than bed side manner but with Dr, Georgen both were great.

I work with Dr.s Georgen and Wasco in the Emergency Dept. at Theda Clark and I trust them completely. I had a patient try to talk me in to swapping to a lap band in Milwaukee and I was not budging a bit. These are my boys!

I've learned that Dr. Georgen will be my surgeon with Dr. Wasco assisting. I met Dr. Wasco at the informational seminar offered at Theda Clark (Dr. Georgen stopped in briefly as well)and was impressed with his compassion and caring, as well as his medical knowledge. I appreciated the time he spent answering questions, the responses given as well as the medical rationale for his answers. His nurse Betsy was a delight and I have been pleased with the help she has given on subsequent phone calls. The program they present is very thorough, lets you know what to expect, risks and stresses follow-up care after. One reason I chose their program is the way they operate. Both surgeons scrub in, one working on the stomach, the other the bowel, decreasing the amount of anesthesia time. As a nurse and a a person of size, I am more comfortable with two surgeons performing surgery, rather than a surgeon and a PA.

I have worked with Dr. Georgen, and Dr. Wasco. I would trust them with anything. They are both GREAT surgeons!!! I have attended their mandatory orientation, and it was very helpful.

Dr.Georgen has been wonderful. He was very sincere and very experienced. He was very concerned about my after care and how things are going. He is also very close to his patience and cares a great deal for them. I wouldn't have had anyone else do my surgery!

Had an initial consult with Dr. Georgen on 11/27/02. He seems like a very nice, warm caring person. We discussed my particular situation and answered my immediate questions and concerns. His biggest concern is that people understand that the success of this surgery is totally complying with the aftercare program. The only patient he lost was 1 month post-op and due to lack of follow-thru develped a blood clot that went to her lung and died. Other than that everyone has survived surgery. YEAH! He's been doing bariatric surgery for 15 years, so that's a great track record.

Dec. 28, 02 - I am a little disappointed in the quality of the approval letter they sent to BC/BS. It lacked any specific detail of my diet history and consequently now my approval is delayed until this information is provided. I did give it to Dr. Georgen when I saw him in Nov. I definitely feel I could write a better letter. Maybe it's because I have worked with BC/BS for so many years trying to get claims paid or pre-approved, that I know what they like.

The letter did have good information and references on my co-morbidities. I do feel they should have included a few of my other medical conditions. Whether they would matter or not is hard to say. For some reason they send their pre-approvals to Stevens Point yet they are done in the Fond du Lac office. So this can cause some delays. I will be pointing this out to them so hopefully future patients won't have that delay at least.

I truly believe Dr. Georgen is a very skilled surgeon and worth the hassles I am having but some of his main office staff could be a little friendlier when you call to verify information (that his office requested) has been received and they could improve their approval letters in my opinion.

3/3/03 - I am one month post-op today and have seen Dr. Georgen quite a bit but not for real serious things just annoying things that needed to be addressed. I have found very easy access to the nurses by phone to ask questions and they always call back if they need to check it out. I had to make 2 calls to the answering service the first weekend I was home and both calls were returned within 10 minutes by one of the surgeons. Anytime I have called with problems - severe diarrhia (3 days) and fluid build-up under my incision they have always gotten me in that day or early the next. So getting the follow-up care you need is pretty easy.

I've had a few issues with misunderstandings of how much to eat but that is resolved and they continue to improve the aftercare information they give to their patients. However, it is important to keep asking questions so as to fully understand the program.

Overall I have had a very uneventful surgery and very minor problems. I'm sure the skill of the surgeons has a lot to do with how well I have done.
