My name is Shannon Cortez. I went to see Dr Lyass in December of 2007 for an information siminar in Apple Valley CA. The information given was very informative so I stayed for an one on one consult with Dr Lyass. I have to say he made me feel so comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. I was treated so kindly and all my questions were answered honestly. I left there will a lot to think about and made an appointment to come back in January. I decided to go with the Lap Band and loved how quickly everything was handled. Dr Lyass performed my Surgery on March 6, 08. It was a pleasant as it could be and I had so much confidance in Dr Lyass. He is very kind, very gentle and most importantly he is very informative. I knew everything I needed to know and was finally ready for the life change. I went to see Dr Lyass weighing in at 247 lbs and now after 7 months I am down 63lbs. I am so happy. Dr Lyass is very considerate with after care. I can always reach him. He makes it very easy to talk to him about any concerns and has always returned messages right away. I hope that you will find this informative and reassuring that Dr Lyass is a very skillful surgeon, very caring and gentle doctor. I highly recommend him to anyone that is in need of WLS. I am a very satisfied and happy patient.
Hello Everyone, My name is Kym Morris , I m a patient of Dr. Sergey Lyass of Beverly Hills, California and have had the Gsystric Bypass Surgery performed on May 29,2008. I have struggled with being obese all my life. I use to tell people,Me and Skinny has never been FRIENDS.I have always dealt with everything that has to do with being an Obese person. My medical condition was common with a person overweight. I had High Blood Pressure , High Cholesterol, Sleep Apnea, Gout, Arthritis, Joint Pains in my Knees, Ankles and Hip, Lower Back Pain that at times was unbearable but My life was what was becoming more and more difficult just to do the simple things in life that at one time or another I took for granted like, Taking a walk up the street, spending time with my daughter and son ,playing with my 2 nephews in which I had just adopted and just being able to go grocery shopping. I have always worked all my life ever since I was sixteen and to now be confined to my home because walking has become a torture was killing me ... I was a patient at a Well Known Hospital in Los Angeles, California for many years but when I mention to my Physician at that time about this Bypass Surgery I heard so much about he would always tell me, Not Right Now Kym, Let us try another Diet and I go from there. I was fed up. My Wife knew my struggle and she understood my pain and so she got to work as she does so well and found a NEW Dr. for me in which introduced me to Dr. Lyass who has been a BLESSING for me and family. I can truly tell you that the Lord sent him into my life in order for me to live my Life Again!!! I want you all to know that even though , I read everything that was going to happen, I was still a little weary. Im a 44 year old Black Man who has never had a surgery a day in his life. When I walked into his office EVERYONE greeted me and made me feel comfortable. Dr. Lyass explained to me about the procedure and step by step what was going to happen. I went home read the book he gave me telling me what I need to do to prepare for the surgery from cover to cover and I asked questions and Dr. Lyass talked to me and explained everyone. What is more important is that I followed everything that the book said for me to do all the way up to the BIG DAY. ...Ladies and Gentlemen it was NOT EASY but I had to tell myself that there is a bigger picture here, Kym and this is what I have been waiting for a long time. The day of Surgery Dr. Lyass was so excited to start it made me feel a little better and me being a Big Joker ,I had his whole staff in Stitches in the operating room only I ended up with Staples…(Smile) ..After the surgery I was a little sore but I was waiting to pass GAS because that is one of the Signs that everything is working properly inside your body after the surgery is completed. When I came home, I began to eat my protein shakes and start with my soupy soups and broths but in my 5th Week after the Surgery , Dr. Lyass allowed me to start eating solid foods and I did but very little. I enjoyed how my weight was coming off and how Dr. Lyass was just overjoyed by my progression. He made me feel like I am really doing this and I owe it all to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for giving me the strength &Will Power to go through this successfully and to his son, Dr. Lyass for giving me the tools to take back my life and be able to be here for my Family and our New Edition to our family, my 1st Grandson.Dr. Lyass is an excellent Dr and he understands your worries and fears but I cannot express enough how much he has helped me and his office staff is wonderful. They get you in and get you out with the greatness ease..If you are having bypass surgery, Dr Lyass is highly recommended by me to be the BEST in the WORLD.
Dr. Jeremy Korman is a top-notch bariatric surgeon. His training (Mt. Sinai, Wittgrove, Cedars-Sinai) is exemplary, and he is a superb technician. Unfortunately, gifted surgeons are not always gifted practicioners.rn Let me be clear: I was glad to have him do the clip & stitch, but I’ve been sorely disappointed in his lack of ability to relate to patients as humans. During the course of my four years’ experience with Korman, not once has he addressed me by name or inquired after my being other than the cursory questions about my physical state. He hasn’t asked any of the usual questions: How do you feel about your weight loss—amount or rate? What sort of response have received from others in your life? Are you getting enough (any) emotional support? What can I do to help in this arena? Overall, Korman seems to be unable to connect to patients in any way beyond the technical. rnIn addition, he has been fairly dismissive of my ongoing and growing concerns about insufficient weight loss (less than 50% of excess weight overall), excessive hunger, and food intolerances. His proposed solution is to count calories and get more exercise. Not once has he suggested that perhaps he chose the wrong surgery (RNY proximal vs. RNY distal or BPD), or that there may be some sort of failure in the surgery (too large pouch, stoma failure, etc.). I’ve had to rely on my own research and Practice Manager Bridgette Agee’s expertise to advance my case.rnI realize that many people want nothing more of their surgeon than a good technician. And certainly given the choice between a strong technician with a less than perfect bedside manner and the opposite, I too would pick and recommend the former. However, bariatric surgery is not gallbladder surgery, and the expertise of the surgeon must go beyond the simply technical. rn
I underwent the LapBand procedure with Dr. Lyass; it has been the best decision of my life! rnrnPrior to the surgery, I interviewed several surgeons. I was looking for a surgeon who had extensive training, was highly qualified, and had the personality and demeanor to be my partner throughout the surgical process and the longterm aftercare. I am fortunate to have found Dr. Lyass! He has been there for me every step of the way. I have been extremely impressed with Dr. Lyass’ skill, knowledge, and most importantly, his patience. He is very approachable and responsive to my questions and needs. He is truly a gem!!! I know that Dr. Lyass always has my best interests in mind and is truly concerned about my long term health and my weight loss goals. rnrnFor the first time in my life, I am confident that with Dr. Lyass' help, I will reach my goal! rnrnSince having the surgery, I have been a huge advocate of the LapBand procedure. I have spoken to many friends and colleagues about the procedure and highly recommend it to anyone who has struggled with weight. I have referred patients to Dr. Lyass including my daughter and best friend. rnrnThe highest compliment I can give, is that I selected Dr. Lyass to perform the Lapband surgery on my 19 year old daughter!

My first impression of my surgeon Dr. Sergy Lyass was on the day of surgery. He seemed knowledgeable and very busy and has a good bedside manner.rn Over time my opinion of my surgeon was that he was very busy because he was a very good surgeon, but also because he seemed to really care about me and how I was doing.rn My surgeon's office has at least two Maria's and such a friendly staff and helpful too.rn What I liked least was that I didn't meet my surgeon until the day of surgery.rn I would recommend my surgeon to any one looking for one of the best.rn I think after care is dispensed as needed depending on patient's needs.rn My surgeon had his assistant physician address this issue.rn My overall rating of my physician is positive.rn I have complete competence in Dr Sergy Lyass, and his bedside manner too.rn This is my own personal experience and I make no statements about what other people may have experienced.
My first impression of Dr Korman was someone who was very kind. That impression has not changed. He is very sweet and reassuring. He answers every question I have and is really present with you while you are with him. I never feel rushed, or that my concerns are not important. rnrnHis staff is very professional and very helpful. I love them all. I was really impressed with all the things that are available both before and after surgery. They made the process very easy.rnrnWhat I like least is that he is so far away, and not on my insurance plan. So I had to pay extra, but it was worth it to know that once I had surgery, everything else was taken care of.rnrnHe and his staff are really emphatic about after care. With him you get a binder that outlines everything, but you also get classes and plenty of face time with everyone to make sure you understand everything. His staff includes an RN, physical theripist, pshychologist, and a nutritionist as well as someone who is really good at working with your insurance company.rnrnYou really can't go wrong with Dr. Korman.
My first impression of Top Surgeons, Dr. Lyass' firm, was that it was a surgery mill (get ‘em in, get ‘em signed, etc.). But it didn't matter to me since I was more interested in selecting a doctor that had done the procedure many times.rnrnHis office staff was immensely helpful in getting me through the insurance muddle (I'm an HMO, which made it harder). But I was still surprised at how wonderful and professional the medical staff was when I went in for surgery. The nurses and the anesthesiologist were among the best I've ever dealt with, and Dr. Lyass has been absolutely terrific. He calls me back when I call him, he's given me his email address, he's attentive, and he cares. I couldn't come up with a complaint if I tried. I heartily recommend him.rn
