Dr Rodriquez is My Hero..My first impression was what a busy, gruff, big ole bear of a man..My impression only softened after time, cause no matter how busy he is, he'll alway sit down and address your concerns.
His office staff is way over-worked and I'm sure have their hands full dealing with insurance companies and patients. Of course I always felt like I should be the ONE AND ONLY they were trying to help!!
The wait in the office was the only thing I didn't like about going to see Dr Rod..there were too many "HORROR" STORIES floating in there, which mostly came from nurses having the surgery, and they like to get graphic. Future patients need to know that Dr Rod knows his BUSINESS AND IS THE ONE OF THE BEST. The Norton Bariatric Team gives wonderful before and aftercare..they all emphasize the risks and I have nothing bad to say about any of them. THEY KNOW THEIR BUSINESS AND IF YOU FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS YOU WILL HAVE A LOT EASIER TIME!!
OK NOW TELL ME WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE SURGICAL COMPETENCE OR BESIDE MANNER??? GET REAL HE'S A BUSY DOCTOR..
MY RATING OF THEM ALL IS 98.9% AND THAT'S ONLY CAUSE THEY MADE ME GET UP AND GET MY OWN POPSICLE ONCE!!

Dr. Rodriguez is a straight forward man and I like that in a doctor. He is very nice though and concerned for his patients health. My first impression was I really like this man!

My first impression of Dr. Rodriguez was that he is up front and to the point. I liked him as soon as I met him. My impression over time hasn't changed much. I'm just glad I picked him as my doctor. His office staff was great. Everyone was nice as could be. They answered anything you ask. He is to the point about the risk of surgery and he wanted to make sure you knew them.

Dr. Rod is very honest, very blunt, and to the point. But, he came highly recommended, and was courteous when answering questions. He will try to talk you out of having the surgery just to see how badly you want this. He would never tell you wrong or leave anything out. The Bariactric center he recommends is the same way. They have a great team of surgeons. The office staff are very polite and try to be as timely as possible. They are very addamit about post op care and won't allow patients with out a post op plan to continue with the surgery. THey were very honest about the risks and complications. The only thing bad I can say is that you might wait forever to be called back to see the Doc, but he comes almost immediately after you are placed in your room. In my opinion he was the best surgeon for all of my circumstances!!!

My first impression of Dr. Rodriquez was FINALLY! I say that because I had waited four months for the apopintment, and almost four hours to be called back to see him. But, I was impressed with him after talking to him. In a way I was glad to have waited so long...it proves to me that he is a busy doctor, which must mean he is a good doctor. My mom (who by nature is a very skeptical person) loved him! He explained things to me, told me what else I needed to qualify, and told me that he thought I sounded informed, intelligent, and overall a good candidate for the surgery. All this took about 10 minutes. I really like Doctor Rodriquez and feel very comfortable about being his patient.

Well my first impression of Dr Rod, was that he was a Huge NY Irish Cop and the right Dr was right behind him. I kept looking but it was some teeny tiny blond tagging along instead. I was like-this is the guy?? I immediatly felt in capable hands. He would make my body behave!! LOL. He is brisk, to the point, looks right in your eyes to make sure you know what your doing, so you had better be up on your homework. It may be called a consultation-but its really just you telling him which surgery you want and why. Then hearing his impressions and advice. KNOW YOUR STUFF, RESEARCH!! He blows in like a hurricane and leaves like a tornado. Your left sitting there thinking-this was it? A 5 hour 6 month wait for 10 mins? But remember-He is on your side! I got that feeling immediatly. Rita is a jewel, thank God for her. His waiting room was packed and waiting soooooo long gave me plenty of time to chat up others and find out their impressions and get more details about their surgeries and experiences. I heard one lady 'who had the lap band' that she sipped gravy through a straw her first 3 weeks. I was like! WHAT!!! You had this life changing surgery only to clog your arteries more? (Between me and you, I dont think she will be successful at this) Oh yes, I pointblank asked dr Rod how long he had been doing this and how many patients he had 'killed' LOL....I interviewed HIM! Couldnt tell if he was amused or whatever but I did get all my questions answered to a T..He seemed to like that I had researched him and wrote down questions. He stresses aftercare!! Support systems...Lets you know this is not a quick fix. I would rate him with ***** stars, because I know he is good and up to date with what he does! He has tons of experience and genuinly cares, its just hard to see that in a 10 min visit. I will update more after my Surgery which should be before the end of the year!!

My first impression of Dr. Rodriguez was that he was very businesslike, very caring, but very harried. He spent very little time with me, but covered all the bases. He provided the information I needed, which was not much: I had done most of the legwork before I even went to see him.

Doc Rodriguez did an excellent job with my bypass, but I only saw him briefly during my post-op hospital stay. As I said, he seems to be always in a rush.

What I like least about the good doctor is the fact that he spends so little time on each appointment. That may be an unfair characterization, but I know that I never spent more than 20 minutes or so with the man, except during surgery. After my last visit, I was supposed to make another appointment, but I did not. I feel it's pretty useless to drive three hours to see the doctor, and spend only ten minutes with him. He's obviously a fine surgeon, but he seems to be pretty overworked.

The after care at University Surgical Associates is non-existent, in my experience. The staff at Dr. Rodriguez' office NEVER called me, e-mailed, nothing. It's been three months! Still nothing. They're very friendly and efficient when I visit, but once I'm gone, i guess they're just to busy to think about me. That's okay, though, since I have done my homework, and I know what I need to do.

Overall, a competent surgeon, efficient staff, but they are obviously overscheduled.

My first impression of him was that he was a little heavier than i Had expected, he was straight to the point. he asked me what type surgery I wanted and why, and after talking he agreed exactly with me. he was very nice and likeable.

I had my first visit on 8-4-04 I go for my second 9-29-04 I am so nervous I have to say that I really like dr.Rod he was nice and straight forward he informed me when I come in this time it will be to sign insurance papers and get the ball rolling I want this so bad I have waited 2 years with insurance problems and such I cant believe it is here I feel like the waiting is killing me

he was a rather large guy himself.
he did seem to be sort of rushed and seemed to expect me to know exactly what i wanted when he walked in the room.(I THOUGHT ANYWAY) i had no idea of what surgery i wanted. that was the reason for my consult i thought???? lol anyway he sent me on my way with a list of people to contact and set up appt. with and that was pretty much it. i have to be honest my first thought was he's a large man walked in and leaned down on the exam table a bit out of breath and i was thinking. ?"wonder why he has choosen to not have the procedure. i was thinking maybe its too risky of it doesnt work?" i didnt know. but after coming to this site and reading the stories about how helpful it's been and how its changed peoples lives im really now more interesting in getting all the information and going on with getting the ball rolling. but i am going to research other doctors and get more information.
what should patients know about him... i guess do your research on your own go in there knowing exactly which procedure you want
his staff was great. we was really good. just guess i needed to know more.

these are all MY PERSONAL IMPRESSIONS. if you are refered to him i would go. he really seems to be a really nice guy and does not in anyway make you feel like he looks down on you for being over weight, i dont think he was to confident in Medicaid covering the procedure. and thus this could be the reason my consult was to me sort of rushed through.or then again he could have been extremly busy......it did after all take me 4-5 months to get an appointment to even see him. the fact that he so booked if a good thing though lets you know lots of people trust him. and also it says with out a doubt he is experienced. i have to call to set up my second appointment.
