Jack F. Rutledge, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
he's a very caring person. he's very exacting, a perfectionist, which is a really good thing in a surgeon. his office staff is friendly if slow. he tries to scare you out of having the surgery first by making sure that you know "everything" that can go wrong...and that this is for life...then when he's sure that you're sure he helps you get it all done....
Immediate feeling of true caring about his patients, takes great strides to help them succeed.
Office staff is wonderful.
He addresses risks through seminar and then verbally goes over each one. He even asked me if I had a will and who would take care of my kids if I died. He wants you to be well informed before going through with it.
Havent had surgery yet will give more info post op
What was your first impression of him/her? He was quiet at first, took his time and answered all the questions. He warmed up quickly.
My impression was good of him, I was more worried about the words he was saying instead of how he said them. I will scare the cr** at of you. But, He is just being honest. So that another + in his favor with me.
The office staff is absolutly the greatest.
I didn't like his quietness at first. It kinda left me with an impression that he was so sure of himself, but after the second visit I knew he was the one to do this for me.
They are firm in aftercare.
I have to rate him a 10 because I let him cut on me, if he were less than a 10 he wouldn't have ever touched me.
I do have to say that his surgical competence is better than the bed side manners, but the nurses truly made up for his manners.
He wasn't bad he was just busy and didn't have time to stay and talk to me very long.
My first impression of Dr. Rutledge was good, he is fairly new to this type of surgery although he is a Laporoscopy Specialist and has been doing that for many years.
He office setting was very comfortable, and his insurance lady, Donna, is nothing short of a miricle.
The only thing I didn't like was he is soft spoken, didn't seem to like to make speaches which he does do, because he gives the seminars.
I will update more when I find out more.
I am a little concerned for the fact that he is new a couldn't answer all my questions, although he did answer the most important. The insurance lady answered All my questions.
He was great, very factual. No he maintained the same persona. Donna, his nurse, is extremely helpful and sympathetic. He is still new to the procedure, as of today 09/23/02 only 25 patients. You should ask specific questions and take notes. He is very emphatic about following the line. The aftercare program is really provided by Doloris Hawk, bariatric cordinator for East Ridge Hospital. The risk and possibilities were at least 10 minutes of my initial visit and I had to return with my husband for a visit pre-op. I would recommend him but as i said he is still new. Both bedside and competency was great, my surgery was 1 1/2 hour and no pain.
Dr. Rutledge is fairly new to WLS. He is however a very skilled general surgeon and an amazing laparoscopic surgeon. He is very honest and straight forward about what the benefits and risks are with the surgery. I was very impressed with him as was my husband. Our first consult lasted almost 1 1/2 hours.
Dr.Rutledge's office staff are very helpful expecially Donna. She went far and beyond to get the insurance approval.
The WLS coordinator at East Ridge Hospital is a wealth of information. She is a good resourse person being a WLS person herself. Her name is Deloris Hawk.
Dr.Rutledge does highly stress the aftercare aspect. He stresses exercise to get the optimal results. He also wants his patients to attend WLS group support meetings. Which they have at the hospital...how convenient!!
I would highly recommend Dr. Jack Rutledge to anyone in the Chattanooga area in search of a good surgeon.
