Dr. Rutledge is the greatest. I checked out several surgeons before making my choice. He is a perfectionist, which is exactly what I want for someone who is going to be taking my life in their hands. Everyone that I talked to had nothing but words of praise for him.

His assistant, Donna is wonderful too. She helped me every step of the way, answering any question that I had and never acted like I was bothering her.

The aftercare program is pretty general. However, Dr. Rutledge is strict and he insists that you follow it exactly. Your success is his number one priority.

Dr. Rutledge is the best of the best! He cares about each patient as if they were his only one! He takes his time with you and he doesn't mind fussing at you if you are not doing what you should be doing! I am guilty for not drinking my water like I should and he definately let me know it!! On a scale of 1-10, I rate Dr Rutledge AND his staff (Donna & Judy) a 12!!!

I immediately liked Dr. Rutledge upon attending one of his seminars.

Dr. Rutldge is VERY thorough explaining all the risks, pro's and cons. He seems to be very strict about follow-up care.

His office staff seems very busy but helpful. It took awhile to get my papers sent off but I think they want to make sure everything is right.

Dr. Rutldge did my co-worker's surgery about a year and a half ago and she did wonderfully. I highly recommend him.

When Dr. Rutledge walked into my door it felt like a weight was immediately lifted from my chest. I knew I was going to be comfortable with him. I have only had this one visit with him and my surgery is only three days away. I look forward to him easing my worried monday morning for I am extemely nervous.

His office staff has been more than helpful. I absolutely adore Deloris. I can imagine venturing this entire journey with her. Judy was always a phone call away to answer my questions in the beginning and now Donna is doing the same.

Aftercare is a necessity with University Surgical's program. Portion and quality control....eat the right portions and make it good healthy food, no snacking and involve yourself in at least 30 minutes of some type of excerise EVERY day.

I believe Dr. Rutledge and his staff to be a very well-rounded group of medical professionals. They truly care about you as a person not just an account number. They know who I am when I call and I actually look forward to calling because I feel like I am a part of their family...and I don't think it gets any better than that.

I will write more about my experience post-op. Right now, however, I have only great things to say and I am sure there will be more to come.

WELL. I have since had my surgery and I am totally satisfied with the care I have received. Dr. Rutledge and his staff have met every expectation I could possibly have. That have nursed me through the complications I have had and are helping me immensely. I LOVE Dr. Rutledge. He is very kind and caring. I would recommend University Surgical and Dr. Rutledge to anyone!

He seemed to be very honest and up front with everything. It has not changed he is very good and has a wonderful staff. There seems to be nothing that I dislike about him or his staff. He is a good and careing person and his staff is the same. He is very strict on post op visits as he should be. Yes they again have a wonderful aftercare program. Every risk was explained very clearly and was openly discussed I feel anyone looking to have this sugery must do there research on this to be sure that they are really willing to make the life style changes that have got to be made. I would rate him and his whole staff a perfect "10". This has been my exprience I wanted to lose weight and I started at right around 370 and now I am down to 135 so for me it has been very sucesville.

Dr. Rutledge was nice to me from the beginning. He was positive and very encouraging. Over time he has been hard on me when I had not followed the plan, but was an important person in my success. Donna and Doloris were both very supportive of me and were there for me whenever I needed any help. The only thing that I did not like about his office or staff, was that I had been approved almost a month and no one had ever notified me, th eapproval was just filed away and I was never contacted. As a surgeon and physician, he knows alot of things about this surgery and is very knowledgeable and can help anyone who is willing to help themselves. Aftercare is extremely important to Dr. Rutledge. He likes to follow his patients very closely and encourages them to stay in touch with his office regardless how far post-op they are. They do not have a nutritionist or structured eating help availabale through their office, but they have excellent resources to get you the help you need. Overall, I would rate Dr. Rutledge a 10- he is an EXCELLENT surgeon.

Dr. Rutledge has been great. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. I needed to regain my health through weight loss surgery and he has started me on that path and for that I am thankful. Each person has to make their own decision as to what method or provider is best for them when it comes to regaining their health. I know that I made the right decision for me.

I first met Dr. Rutledge at a seminar for WLS. The first one he seemed a bit distant and a bit cold. Boy was I wrong, the second seminar I had the opportunity to talk one on one with him and I realized he is a very concencious, caring man. I think he is very capable and experienced, which is important. He told me at my last visit that he had done 210 to date. He had only had one death and it was a man with a heart condition, he counted it because it was in a certain time frame. Honesty!

Dr. Rutledge has an outstanding staff. Donna, his nurse has had the surgery and she looks awesome! She took my medical records, my letter from my PCP and my personal letter and ran with it. I think Donna was honestly as excited as I was when she heard from the insurance company that I had been approved.

I really appreciate Dr. Rutledge, he is direct and to the point about the possible danger. He does not sugar coat anything! He is 100% about after care, he says we have to remain in touch for the rest of our lives. Now that is dedicatioin!

I would rate Dr. Rutledge and his staff as Excellent, 100+.

As far as which is better, surgical compentence or bedside manner. If I had to choose I would opt for surgical compentence. Thankfully with Dr. Rutledge I have both, compentence, caring and bedside manner!

I researched a great deal before I selected him and I feel totally at ease with my choice.

When I first met Dr Rutledge on my first consult, I liked him right from the start. He was very professional, yet funny and very down to earth. I liked most about him was that he demands perfection from his staff. Donn his nurse was wonderful, the entire staff. I was late for my appt. and it didnt matter. They are particular about every detail for this WLS and he was very reassuring. He asks alot of questions and makes very sure you are ready for this surgery. He was even concerned that I hadnt yet told my parents, which showed his caring side. Overall I rate him and the staff as a 10..A+

Dr. Rutledge appears to be fairly young doctor and is somewhat argorant. However, his bedside manner is excellent. He spent nearly an hour explaining all the pro's and con's to me regarding my request for wls.
He has been very honest in assessing my weight loss and minor complications from surgery. I would recommed him highly!

His staff are very professional and got my approval from medical records to approval for surgery and a surgery date all within three weeks.

Dr. Rutledge is very adamant about the kinds of life changes required by this type of surgery. He is an excellent doctor because he takes a very personal stake in the success of his patients.

I did not feel like he was rushing me to surgery nor was he pushing me to choose what kind. Actually he refused to do the surgery until I had attended several informational meetings on two different kinds of wls.

Of course these are just my opinions, but after 4 weeks of recovery, I am sure I made a good choice.
Surgical competence is always top priority, however, you must project a competent bedside manner in order for the patient to trust you enough to get you to surgery.
