Illinois Bariatric Center Bariatric Center

Well I first met Dr Rohrscheib with my hubby when he was getting ready to do his surgery. He is a very up front kind a guy. Tell it like it is! I was not sure I really liked him but I felt comfortable with what he had to say. So then it was my turn to have surgery and I was of course scared to death but I trusted my dr to do his best and all and all I now have the utmost respect for Dr. Rohrscheib he is very knowledgeable and I owe my life to him. He does a GREAT job.

hey was great really great umm nope he is the best really he is there for ya and will be there for ya
his staff is even better then him lol
umm i cant say that there was anything
he is great i think
alot but they can obnly do so much really
yeah
yes very very much but like i said he can only say so much
a 10
both great

Dr. Rohrscheib is very friendly, honest(tells it just like it is) and a gentleman. I am very impressed with him. His office staff are all super special gals, too. They bend over backward to help you out a LOT. There is nothing to report of dislikes. I am happy overall with my decision to pick this surgeon.
He's a very busy fellow, but acted like he had all day to talk to me. He asked if I had any questions, and he answered all and anything I asked him. He's great!
I'm still waiting for my surgery day, so I can't report on bedside manners or post-op instructions. I am not worried about it, though. I have complete peace about this surgery and this surgeon.
Of course, this is just my personal impressions, no statement is intended to guess what other people might think. Everybody is different.
The only thing I'm dis-satisfied with is, I wish I could have had my surgery MUCH earlier! I am anxious to get it overwith, so I can get on the road to recovery!

My misconception of what I thought Dr. Rohrscheib would look and sound like were way off. He had no accent, was as Caucasian as me and seemed much more relaxed than I had expected. The staff was great and seemed to be thoroughly competent in whatever they discussed with me. Rita was as nice as everyone says she is. I didn't like feeling as though I was rushed. I know Doc had to leave for Ohio and all, but I drove 3 1/2 hrs. to get there. With all of the build up a person has inside just to get to the initial consultation, I didn't feel as much releif as I thought I would when I left an hour and a half later. My wife wasn't there to make the long drive back home with me and I took a different route which took even longer. Tiresome day. If you are considering Dr. Rohrscheib, then expect the truth and nothing less. He is a bit cocky with what he does but I would rather have a confident Dr. opening me up than an unsure Doc any day. Face it, if something goes wrong in surgery, would you rather have a Dr. that knows his stuff and doesn't second guess himself and gets you off the table or one that has to figure out what to do while you are on the table risking more infection? He is very into after care and stresses it as much as he does anything else. In fact, he has only lost 2 patients out of over 550 and that was attributed to the fact they didn't get up and walk for over 24 hrs. after surgery. He does have a strict after care program that can be easily changed to fit to your specific body type and chemistry. He basically let me tell him some of the things I knew about the risk of surgery and then covered or stressed what I should know as well as the questions I had. I would rate him a 9/10 for the way his office meshes and his style of answering questions. One thing I have learned in a medical setting is that an office staff is there to support the Dr. as much as he is there to take care of the patient. That support also means they do whatever they can to make sure the patient goes away with the feeling that they are put in the care of hand selected staff. I don't know what his bedside manner or surgical competence is like since I haven't had the surgery yet, but I've heard great things.

My first impression of Dr. R was that he seemed to be very professional and kind. He explained to me everything about the surgery and what it entails and wanted to be sure that I understood enough to be able to make a decision. I felt comfortable with him right away. His staff were all really nice and helpful and seemed to genuinely care about my situation. They are located in a brand new building that seemed great for what they need. The waiting room is full of x-large chairs for even very large people.
I asked Dr. R a whole list of questions and he was extremely patient as we worked our way down the list. After care is a BIG issue with Dr. R and I even had to sign a contractual agreement stating that I will attend my afterdare appointments, etc.
Over all I would say that Dr. Sidney Rohrscheib (SP?) is a great choice for me. I think that a combination of competence and bedside manner make a complete package. I think Dr. R seemed to have both of these qualities. These are my assumptions after the first meeting....I will update after surgery.

Dr R seemed to be very knowledgable with gastric by-pass surgery. The office staff was wonderful. I brought all my records with me and they sent everything into the insurance company for me. I didn't like the fact that I didn't get to see him during the aftercare visits. At 3 and 6 months I saw his sister which is an internal medicine doctor.

Dr R was very great!!! He was very detailed and answered every question that I had. His staff is also great. Rita was very helpful and explained the processes and paperwork very well. I also called many times and had many questions and they were very polite and helpful. Terri the nurse is a peach!!! She was the one who called me and told me that I was approved - I cried on the phone - and I was at work!!! She decided to call me asap and not leave me a message at home. I would reccommend Dr R and his staff to anyone who is looking into Bariatric Surgery. The office is pretty new and they have seating the accomodates the larger person - so you won't be uncomfortable in the smaller chairs. They do go out of their way to help!!!

My surgery was on November 4, 2003. I've lost 48 pounds and I'm feeling good and have had no complications fron the surgery. My first impression of Dr. Rohrscheib was that he was all business and knew his stuff. I couldn't help but wonder why he chose to do obesity surgery. Just a thought. His office staff was helpful and friendly. His dietician was a sweetie and I enjoyed talking to her about my diet after surgery. The office staff who takes care of insurance has done a great job dealing with my insurance company(s). Dr. Rohrscheib did not beat around the bush about the risks involved with the surgery. I had lapband and had done research on my own and I wasn't worried about any complications. I am, however, disappointed in the lack of aftercare and follow-up after surgery. I went back after 1 week and saw the doctor and the dietician. I had a fill right before Christmas but have not had any contact with the office since then. I'm at the point now where I feel I need some guidance and am feeling like I'm floundering out there by myself. A support group in this area would be helpful but not probable. I would even be willing to drive to Clinton or that vicinity for a support group. I often get into the message boards and read about other people who have had lapband and try to reassure myself that I'm doing OK. I think it would be helpful to have a schedule to see the doctor or the dietician on a regular basis for at least the first year just to answer questions and have the peace of mind that that everything is going as it should. That's just me. I think Dr. Rohrscheib is a great surgeon and I think his surgical competence and bedside manner are both commendable. He is personable and to the point.

I met with Dr. Rohrscheib and got my day of surgery scheduled.. He seems somewhat quiet but is very informative to answer what questions you have. My first impression of him was that he would be the best dr to do my procedure. While in the hospital waiting to go into surgery he came to the room and talked with me and answered any questions that I may have had.. and while down in the operating room before I went to sleep he talked to me and than the next day I saw him 2 times before he released me to go home.. He seems to go very much out of his way to make his patients feel so comfortable and to give them a relaxed atmosphere.. I feel that he knows what he is doing surgically and his bedside manners are great too.. He seems to want to go that extra step for his patients and make them feel comfortable. The after care that I have recieved from Dr. R and his staff in the office is great.. They all seem to talk to you like you are their only care and I would never feel weird calling them and asking them the most trivial question.. I would recommend Dr. R and his office staff to anyone that is contemplating haveing this surgery.. Well actually there are several people I know that are calling him for appt's and one I know of has already had the Lap Band surgery with him...

I have yet to meet my surgeon, I do have a consultation with him on 09/26/03. So far his medical staff has been extremely helpful, they've given me information on how to begin the process with my insurance company and primary care physician. I am eager to meet Dr. Rohrscheib and to speak in depth with him on the surgery itself. Stay tuned...... :)
10/06/03.. I've had my consult with Dr. Rohrscheib and was pleased with his straight forward attitude, he was very informative and gave me every option available. Now I am waiting to from the insurance for approval, with patience of course.. until then :)
11/19/03.... Surgery date, will follow up afterward.
12/16/03.... I am doing very well post op, working out and eating well, I am having some problems with certain foods, but nothing that can't be prevented. My healing has gone great and I am exercising everyday. Dr. Rohrscheib has been wonderful, he's definitely a great surgeon, I would recommend him to anyone.
