Well, I have changed surgeons mid-stream. A new Bariatric Clinic opened in Clinton, Illinois which is much, much closer to Decatur. Dr. Sidney Rohrscheib is the surgeon and I liked him a lot. He has been doing surgeries in Clinton for above 5 years, and now is doing gastric bypass. He will also do your surgery at the Carle Clinic in Champaign if you so choose. He does his own psych evaluations and all the pre-op tests, etc is done in the John Warner Hospital in Clinton.

Dr. R is a very caring doctor. If you are having problems, he calls you personally to see how you're feeling. He goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Still hopeful that my insurance will approve me for the surgery.

First impression was very good. He seemed very knowledgeable about both procedures and what to expect. Dr. Rohrscheib trained at the U of Ohio, which is a well known bariatric proving ground.

Rita and Terri are his office nurses. They did a terrific job making me feel comfortable. The process of gathering pertinent info to submit with the first letter seemed to drag, but I think they just wanted to be thorough and not have to back-track later.

POST_OP UPDATE
My surgery was awesome! Dr Rohrscheib did an exceptional job. My scar is about 4 inches shorter than my wife's. (Her surgeon was in Peoria). Recovery from anesthesia was a breeze. I stood at the bedside that eve. and even sat in a chair for 30 minutes or so. I had a little trouble sleeping in the Hospital, so Dr R. let me go home a day early since I was doing so well otherwise. Dr. R visited at least twice daily each day and stayed to answer any questions that I or my family came up with.

I really like Dr. Rohrscheib and his staff. Very personable and very helpful. Explained everything in detail.... and answered any questions I might have had.
The aftercare they described was to meet w/ the nutritionist every time I meet w/ Dr. R after the surgery.
He addressed the risks of the surgery and also the benefits.
He seems genuinely caring and this passes onto his patients.

He seemed very nice, and seems to really know what he's doing. My only complaint if any would be that he seemed somewhat rushed. But he was very kind and did explain every thing to me. I look forward to working with him. I have only met with him once. His office staff were great. ecspeicaily his office mngr. She went out of her way to help me and made me very comfortable. Like I stated earlier the only complaint that I had was that my visit seemed rushed. It was quite along drive there and I was in and out in no time. They were strong on aftercare. In fact they had a folder for me that was very very informative and heavely stressed an after care program. They made sure you understand that is was not just a quick fix but a lifestyle change and a life long situation. He did address the risks of surgery, and made sure that I did understand these risk. That was another issue that was heavly stressed in the folder which i recieved. Again as I previously stated I have only met with him once, at this time I would give him a high rating. Both bedside manner and surgical comptetence are important. Both would be great!

I am a nurse so I had lots of questions for him. I was very impressed. He was straight forward, and answered all my questions. He takes extra precautions and makes you have a N.G. tube and then on day 2 or 3 sends you for a leak test. I haven't heard of other Dr.s doing this.

I had a free consultation with Dr.Rohrscheib approx 5 months ago and he decided I would be a good candidate for the surgery. He was very informative and patient. He drew me a very detailed picture of the sugery in his office. We discussed in his experience with bariatric surgery and his training. The consultation on a whole was very enlightning and laid back. I then met with Rita his office person who handles the process of getting the surgery paid for with your insurance company.

I will let you know more after my initiaol consult on September 12, 2001.

9/23/2001 I had my initail consult with Dr. Roeherscheib on 9/12/01. His staff was great and the nurse used to work in my PCP's office(do nice to see a familiar face. He was great and although most of my questions have been answered throuhg this website he was still very informative. Rita that takes care of insurance was fantastic and has really been patient with my continous phone calls.

9/27/2001 I called Dr. Roeherscheib's office today after getting verbal approval from my insurance company. Surgery date set up right away (for October 09, 2001). No time to get nervous.
