Bariatrics and Medical Weight Loss Hamilton - Community Health Bariatric Center

When I met Dr. McEwen I was very nervous. He immediately made me feel comfortable and was very engaged about my weight goals. I quickly figured out that the lap-band is a team effort with me, my surgeon, and his staff. I knew by the time our first consultation was over that I needed him and his staff on my team. He is very laid back and isn't all about image and wearing fancy clothes and driving Hummers. He is great at what he does and that is why I chose him was because of the amount of laproscopic surgeries he had completed. My partner had a great experience with Dr. McEwen on the day of my surgery. She said he explained everything very thorough. I honestly chose him because of him not because of his staff. I wasn't sure if I was just reading them wrong. I felt at times in the beginning I didn't matter and I was just a number to his staff. They told me they were \"really busy\" and covered up. However, i must say now I love him and all of his staff and I am so glad I chose him for my life makeover.rnmandy

He was honest and motivated to work with me. His staff is great. Tanya has had the LapBand for 3 years and is very helpful. The staff treats you like an adult and does not chastize you. They help you succeed.rnThey motivated me to lose weight prior to surgery which kept my operating time very low. I lost 50 pounds in the first 6 weeks!rnDr Keith McEwen is GREAT! I help them in return by speaking at the seminars to hopefully help others realize that you can succeed!

I have known Dr. McEwen for 3 years now. He performed laproscopic hernia surgery on me 3 times. I was so pleased with him and his staff that when I heard he was doing the lapband, I wanted to be his first patient because I had such faith in him. The before surgery info was adequate because a person should do their own research on procedures and the risks, etc. I know they told us that 1-2 pounds a week was all they expected, but I think when someone has any bariatric surgery...you think in 3 months I will need plastic surgery because all the weight will be gone....and so even though I had my surgery on 11/2/05 and as of 3/2/06, I have lost 45 pounds...I still kept thinking it would be faster and easier...you can eat and if you have an eating problem...you have to face that too. HOWEVER, since losing the weight I have been able to stop all blood pressure medicine and have even given my sister all my size 20-24 clothes...as I am now a size 16-18! I still have about 80 pounds to go, but with Dr. McEwen and his belief in me and encouragement of not only him but Cheryl and the staff at CHN bariatrics, I will do it! The surgery was nothing! I was frustrated because I had to spend the night! The thing that surprised me was that I didn't feel anything like I thought I would. It took 2 "adjustments" until I didn't feel hungry...but now I can not eat very much before "WOW!" With the email support of Cheryl from Dr. McEwens office...I feel so special. The only thing negative I can think of to say is that I hate waiting the 6 weeks between visits!

My first impression was positive. He expressed a genuine concern for my health and safety and took time answering any questions I had about the Lap Band. Dr McEwen kept a good impression with me. His office staff were all very helpful. I could not have come so far without his great team. My impression is this is a very kind, caring, doctor and he is one of the most experienced lap surgeons. I am a nurse, and did not know him before my surgery. There is a structured before and aftercare program. He was very honest about all the risks of surgery (that I had researched before he discussed with me). I would rate him one of the best in the area, excellent overall. Of course I want surgical competence for my safety and a posive outcome. Not all docs have a good bedside manner, but Dr McEwen has both surgical competence and a good bedside manner. I am honest in not having anything negative to say. I have tried to think of something but I had a great experience pre and post op. I can say one thing, I did whine about those Flinstone vitamins he ordered until I could tolerate Centrum and I wanted to progress my diet faster than the bariatric program recommends.
