Bariatrics and Medical Weight Loss Hamilton - Community Health Bariatric Center

Dr McEwen, is a quiet gentle man.....It was Tanya Revell that really got me excited to have the surgery...She was a patient that had been successful...she also worked for Dr. McEwen as an advocate for the lap-band....rnI like Dr. McEwen but through the loss of my husband I kinda lost touch with him...rnThe tough thing about the lap-band is that your first year of care should be covered as post op. surgery...just like the plastic surgery...having to put out 200.00-300.00 a pop everytime you tighten or loosen makes one not take the care of themselves like they should because they cant afford it.....THere are still things that are not told or understood because each patient reacts differently.....rnDr. McEwen has great knowledge and bedside manner....I just believe there would be less failures if the cost for long-term care was covered by insurance...that is a huge problem.rnThrough the lap-band that Dr. McEwen placed in me...I have a new life...for that I am grateful....Dr.McEwen did get with the Riverside Physical therapy here in Carmel and I have been there once with my girlfriend who is hoping to have the surgery done..... I feel good about the 100 pounds I have lost and with alot of hard work daily workouts I hope you lose 20 more....Vickie

getting ready ....for surgery with dr mcewen. everything has been great. Went to the new office. He is now the Medical Director for Riverview Bariatrics. Which to me is...he is independent but making a program for a hospital. I think it is wonderful that he will be able to help Riverview Employees. I have had a great experience and it looks as thought the majority of patients have....well it looks like one patient had to share..(I am assuming HER DISPLEASURE! ...anyway...back to those of us who have had a GREAT EXPERIENCE! i am looking forward to seeing you at group and looking forward to having Dr Keith McEwen and his staff help me lose this weight!

My initial impression of Dr. McEwen was very positive. My impression of Dr. McEwen never changed, but due to early difficulty with my band, and the response of his \"Executive Director/Physician Liaison\", my impression of his practice did change. What I am writing here is how I experienced my interaction with Dr. McEwen's office and is my personal opinion. rnrnDr. McEwen was very clear about the risks of the surgery and my continued impression is that he is a thorough and skilled surgeon. In addition, Dr. McEwen was kind and supportive. This was the first time I had any type of surgery, and I felt safe knowing that Dr. McEwen was performing my surgery. rnrnThe initial difficulty with the band turned out to be an excessive amount of fluid in the band at the time it was placed. (Based on what I learned at my first fill, it would appear that the band was likely about half full at the time it was placed - which was not a good fit for me personally.) Shortly after my surgery I asked the \"Executive Director/Physician Liaison\" how much liquid was in my band. She advised me that Dr. McEwen felt it was counter-productive for a patient to have that information; consequently she did not tell me. In addition, the \"Executive Director/Physician Liaison\" did not send me the link to the post-op \"Emmi\" video to review until a month after my surgery, so I was not fully educated about what would normally be happening for the first month after surgery (which served to make me more anxious). After 2 weeks of me being unable to take in nutrition without pain in my shoulder and back, Dr. McEwen removed some of the liquid from the band. Removing 2 ml of fluid from the band relieved the pain, and I experienced immediate relief. (It is important to note that Dr. McEwen generously came in on a Saturday to take care of this.) As a result, and with the help of Dr. McEwen's stellar nutritionist, I was able to lose about 45 lbs in about 3 months. The nutritionist at Dr. McEwen's office, Laura, is terrific; she is knowledgeable, available, and supportive. I could not have lost that much weight without her guidance and support. rnrnWhat I liked least about the office is that the \"Executive Director/Physician Liaison\" came across to me as uncaring and controlling, and as a result of the way she treated me I spent a great deal of time in tears. Changing my eating was difficult, I needed support from my health care provider. In my opinion I received just the opposite from the \"Executive Director/Physician Liaison\" on a regular and consistent basis. Not only did I feel that she was being mean and controlling, but as time passed I felt that she was increasingly so toward me, especially when I asked questions. Unfortunately, my personal experience with the \"Executive Director/Physician Liaison\" left me feeling uncomfortable and unsafe with the practice as a whole. rnrnAfter about three months of what I felt were repeated negative experiences with the \"Executive Director/Physician Liaison\" at Dr. McEwen's office, I switched to a new surgeon. It was a difficult decision to make as I was having great success with Dr. McEwen, and I liked him, his receptionist, and the nutritionist very much. But in the end I had to make the change in order to feel safe enough to continue my weight loss journey. Dr. McEwen was supportive of my move to a new surgeon, giving me the option to return to him if I wanted; I am grateful for his kindness. rnrnWeight loss is extremely difficult and it impacts us on so many levels... feeling supported is key for me personally. Since I changed to Community Health Network bariatrics I feel better equipped to use the lap-band as a weight loss tool. With my new health care providers I am feeling supported, and I am being given lots of new information that I had not received previously--as an added bonus my new team has offered me many more tools that I can utilize to help me with my weight loss. Yeah Community Health Network bariatric team! Pam, Karin, Sarah, Lisa, Jenna, Jennifer!! They are awesome!! I am on my way to losing 100 more lbs with their guidance and support. What an amazing journey this is; I can't wait to arrive at my destination... I look forward to seeing you there!!rnrn rnrn

My Name is Jennifer Barbary and I had Lap-Band on Aug 23,07. It was very easy. I had to be on a 14 day liquid diet it was hard but, I got threw it and lost 10 pounds come day of surgery. My surgery was very easy I did not have any compications. I was on 3 diabetic medication the Monday berfore I went off one of them and now it is 6 days later and I went off one more. I have one more to get rid of and I will be happy. Dr. McKewen was a very good doctor and his staff is wnderful. I had the surgery in the Indiana Surgery Center in Noblesvill In it was a very good place and the staff ws execelent. I could not have asked for anything better. GOOD SURGEON NICE STAFFrnI AM A NURSE IN ANOTHER CITYrnI CALLED AND SPOKE TO THE SCRUB NURSES AND BOTH FACILITIES THAT HE WORKED AT. THEY SAID HE IS VERY COMPETENT, LOW COMPLICATIONS, CALM, AND NICE.rnrnI MADE A CONSULT AFTER THE SEMINAR AND I HAVE NOT BEEN DISAPPOINTED YET. NO I DID NOT LIKE THE PRE OP DIET....THAT WAS THE ONLY BAD PART.rnrnSURGERY WAS AS EASY AS SURGERY CAN BE. I WENT BACK TO WORK 1 WEEK LATER.rnrn

I CHOSE DR MCEWEN BECAUSE I HAD BEEN TO OTHER SEMINARS AND I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE SURGEONS IN THE INDIANA MARKET REALLY WANTED TO PERFORM LAP BAND SURGERY. I WAS AMAZED WHEN I WAS TOLD IT DID NOT WORK. I CAN FROM LOUSIANNA AND HAD SEVERAL RELATIVES THAT HAD HAD IT. BUT HERE AT THE BIG PROGRAMS ON THE TV, THEIR SURGEONS ONLY WANTED TO CUT MY STOMACH IN HALF OR PERFORM INVESTIGATIONAL PROCEDURES ON ME. SO IF YOU WANT A BYPASS CALL THEM IF YOU WANT A LAP BAND CALL THE MAN WHO KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. KEITH MCEWEN- THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING AND GIVING US AN OPTION
