Bariatrics and Medical Weight Loss North - Community Health Bariatric Center
He was very straight forward. He answered all of my questions. He did not appear rushed or uninterested in taking the time to assure my concerns or answer questions. He was very cautious about my health concerns. Through referral and testing, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea prior to surgery and had a thorough cardiac work up, including a heart catheriztion, ensuring me that it is realitively safe for me to proceed with the operation. The benefits, limitations, and realities of surgery were discussed.
Have initial appointment scheduled at St. Vincent-Carmel (Indianapolis) on January 10. Staff was extremely kind when I called, and did try to get me in before Christmas, but alas, no openings. They are sending out a packet, which I am anxious to get my paws on.
Saw Dr. Jones today: she seems confident about her knowledge, competent in her info gathering skills, supportive of patients, and just generally a kind-hearted person.
Was understanding about my anxiety and was able to calm me with good information. Now the journey has begun---in 6 wks. I should have a surgery date!
Today, 4/2/01, got a surgery date of 5/31
My first impression of Dr. Jones was that she was a very caring individual. I have only met her the one time so my impression has remained the same. My approval process has been a long one. Her staff has always returned my calls and answered my questions to my satisfaction.
I have been to my pre op orientation session which is required before the surgery. There was a nurse and dietitian there to go over what we were to expect in regards to our hospital stay and immediately after.
We were all given a little lunch bag to take home which included a baby spoon and sipper cup.
We were all given a schedule of support group meetings which are held every tuesday of the month. (you pick one a month to go to because they all cover the same subjects). We were also made aware that at every follow up visit with the doctor we would also be expected to see the dietitian.
An exercise class is also available to us after 6 weeks post op. In the class we are able to work one on one with an exercise councelor to tailor our exercise routines to our particular needs.
I was told that the risks of surgery include infection, and death, and that I would have to take a multiple vitamin supplement for the rest of my life along with a B-12 shot or sublingual pill. The failure to take a b-12 supplement could cause nerve damage.
My first appt. with Dr. Nigh is this Wednesday March 14th. I'm real nervous because I have a husband that can pretty much intimidate most people. He is supportive of me being healthy, but thinks the surgeon is just going to sell the procedure in order to make his house payment, so to speak. If you are reading this before 2pm on 3/14/01-please pray that my husband will behave and come across to Dr. Nigh as a concerned husband who is looking for the FACTS/TRUTH. Will post again later.
3/23/01 Well, I received a shock-surprise at my consult on 3/14. The surprise was Dr. Nigh is not who you're scheduled with, it's Dr. Ditslear. Who? Well, he is new to the Winlife group. He came on in January. I was very disappointed. They offered to have me do the interviews with financial counselor, psychologist, MMPI and then come back another day to have Dr. Nigh as my doctor. It's funny, I was afraid they'd disappear or my husband wouldn't come back. So - I opted to stay.
I thought Dr. Ditslear was a nice man. I'm comfortable knowing that he will have one of the senior physicians working beside him, because they always have 2 surgeons. I understand that he will be my primary surgeon-meaning he'll get the larger piece of pie. My preference in doctors is one that is so confident and sure that he could appear pompus. That is okay with me if he knows his stuff. Dr. Ditslear was very soft, meek, polite but his hand shake spoke strong. So that was nice. I'll probably find him very delightful and respect him. It's hard to gather that from one visit and with my added surprise.
3-7-01: Had my consultation today with Dr. John Ditslear, III, who I found to be a very kind and patient person. My impression of Dr. Ditslear did not change throughout the time I spent with him or the staff at WinLife. I had two sheets full of questions and Dr. Ditslear was very willing to spend the time to answer all of my questions. I really can't say anything negative about my experience with Dr. Ditslear or the staff at WinLife. Everyone was very helpful and kind.
My consultation at WinLife lasted 4.5 hours. I was asked to complete the basic personal background information with detailed weight loss history. Met with a finical representative to go over my insurance information. Had a psychologist interview evaluation followed by a 344 questionnaire. Was weighted and measured, then after all of the paperwork and interviews I met two other patients and we all met Dr. Ditslear. We all watched a Power Point presentation about the surgery and what to expect. After the presentation Dr. Ditslear spend at least 30-40 minutes just answering our questions. I then had a private meeting with Dr. Ditslear followed by a physician exam.
During the Power Point presentation Dr. Ditslear stressed the importance of aftercase with the Dietition and the Support Groups. I haven't attended a support group yet, but plan too very soon.
All aspects of the surgery was shared with me . . . the good and the possible complications. If I were to rate Dr. Ditslear at this point, I would have to give him a 10 out of 10. And the staff at WinLife would also be given a 10! I really don't have anything negative to say about WinLife . . . I pray they will be able to help me! Now all I have to do is wait and see if Anthem BCBS will allow me to have this surgey!
Dr Jones has been absolutely wonderful and understanding from the very first minute I met her and she still is.
Her office staff is great as well. I wouldnt change a thing!
The thing I liked the least about her is she does her hospital rounds late morning and I was looking forward to seeing her.
Future patients should know that in her hands, they have nothing whatsoever to worry about.
She absolutely emphasized after-care and attending support groups.
Her surgical competence, bedside manner, and overall personality is wonderful.
She consulted with my family and eased their fears too. She was very
straight forward about the risks of the surgery, but also
let me know she would be there every step of
the way if anything did go wrong.
Overall, Dr Rosemarie Lopez-Jones is a 12 on a
10 pt scale!! I know you're thinking no one is that
great, but in MY experience she was and is. I
have absolutely nothing bad to say except maybe
for the fact that her offices are so far away
from my home (about 22 mins).
I would tell anyone that is looking for a surgeon to go with Dr. Jones. She has a wonderful personality. I was impressed with her from the day I met her. She has a wonderful bedside manner. Her and her staff have been there to answer my many questions. Once I was concerned that my incision was infected and she told me to come right in. The aftercare program is very structured. There are support meetings she ask you to attend and plenty of follow ups with her and the dietician. I realize that no one is perfect but my experience with Dr. Jones has been nothing but good so far.
Rosemary Jones seems very compassionate, yet serious about her job. She's as cute as a button and kind of a mild-mannored speaker.
Her office has been very kind. I guess this surgery is becoming very popular because scheduling seems to take a while. Between the time I was approved and the time I was scheduled was almost 4 weeks. And then of course the date of the surgery is 3 more months away. I am sort of an anxious person, so I am very ANXIOUS about this.:-D
