Let me start out by telling you that I think that Dr. Coirin is wonderful. He is very knowledgeable about what he is doing. I felt very comfortable talking to him about my weight -- he was just very gentle and kind about it. The office staff is just wonderful. They worked hard at getting me an appointment that was good for me, and also worked hard at finding out information regarding my insurance. Sonja is so very knowledgeable with the insurance. She really knows what she is doing.

November 5, 2003 Well, I have been waiting for this day... seems like forever! Dr. Coirin was "so" professional, kind, informative and very understanding. He was easy to talk to, not intimodating like a lot of doctors. He had time for me and made me feel important.

When I first arrived in the office I couldn't help but notice the other patients. You could tell that they had been where I was at one time. They were on their journey to their goal weight, LUCKY THEM! They were so friendly and helpful with all of my questions too.

The staff was OUTSTANDING too! (Especially Sonja!) I felt so comfortable with everyone, I totally felt a sense of belonging... this just feels right.

Dr. Coirin is going to get me in on a stress test with my cardiologist beforehand due to a heart condition I had last year. (He would like to make sure that I really am healthy enough for this surgery.)Once this is completed, we are working towards a December date for surgery. SO, WITH LOTS OF PRAYER... I will be on my way to a new "ME"! Thank GOD, Dr. Coirin and BLUE CROSS! ~Paula Baca

I met with Dr Coirin and he seemed very warm, gentle, kind, compasionate, and very knowledgable about the surgery. He answered every question I had and did not make me feel uncomfortable in any way.

Sonia was also very kind and will help you in any way. I am very pleased with the whole process so far.

I look forward to working with the Dr and his office staff over the next couple of years.

I would rate the Dr and his staff a perfect 10!!!!

I first heard about Dr. Coats from a peer who was working closely with him to develop the Bariatric Program at DHM (Doctors Hospital Manteca). My first impression was "he's serious about the surgery". I thought about having the surgery for over a year. During that time I researched the risks and benefits. When I made my up my mind to have the surgery I made an appointment with Dr. Coats. My appointment date was changed 2 times due to scheduling conflicts. I did see him approx. 3 weeks from the time of my initial contact with his office. The staff is polite and takes the time to answer questions that I am sure they answer all day every day. You would never be able to tell by the tone of their voices. On the day of my appt. I was so excited that I hardly slept a wink the night before. My husband accompanied me, thank goodness for his support. The office is very comfortable and inviting. I did not have to wait any longer than I have waited in the past to see a physician. When I was taken to the exam room the assistant weighed me(I hated that part), took a before picture and vital signs. She was very pleasant. When Dr. Coats entered the room he addressed my husband and I with a concerning tone. Because I had done my homework and studied up about the surgery I felt like I had a handle on what to expect. I was suprised to find out that there was a 5% chance of death. The description of what the surgery entailed was fantastic. He brought it down to a level that was very understandable. The picture he drew of the stomach & intestines were a great visual aid. As for the aftercare program we discussd the importance of dietary suppliments in the form of vitamins and excercise. I did not feel rushed in the least. His manner is relaxed which provided a secure enviroment in which to ask questions. Since my appointment on Sept. 12, 2003 I have not heard anything from my insurace company (Pacific Care). The psy. eval took 3 weeks to be dictated and sent to Dr. Coats office, which delayed my request for the surgery to be sent to Pacific Care. Dr. Coats office promised to send in the request for my surgery on Monday Oct. 6, 2003. Now I wait. Please wish me luck.

Dr. Coirin is a very professional man who takes his time with his patients so that they fully understand every aspect of this life-changing decision. It is obvious that he has his heart in what he does and isn't in this profession for the money, like some doctors.

His office staff has been very helpful and thorough in everything that I have experienced with them so far. I couldn't ask for better.

My first impression of Dr. Coates was, He's a very friendly and very informative man. He told it like it was. As far as his office staff, they were kind of difficult to deal with. I will refer my Dr. to anyone. His bedside manner was awesome. As far as him in surgery, I didn't have any pain. And still I have none. If it were'nt for my incisions, i'd swear he did nothing.. God Bless you Dr. Coates, your wonderful. I highly respect you. I thank God for allowing me to travel 3 hrs. for the best care ever. And I will be on the next train smoking for my next appointment. ~God is good~

I met Dr. Coirin on August 27, 2003. He is a very calm and nice man. He took time to explain the procedure to me and answered all of my questions. I did not feel that he was rushing through the appt.
His office staff is very friendly but a wee bit too busy! They definately could use some more help and more space. You girls are on top of each other.
Dr. Coirin came and visited me 2 times in the hospital and was very concerned how I was feeling. He complimented me on how well I was progressing and healing.
I would recommend him to anybody that wants to have this surgery done.

From the first meeting I knew that Doctor Coirin was the surgeon for me. He treated each visit with great information and knew just what questions I needed to be asked. I feel he and his staff treat me with respect and anticipate what I need to know for the next phase of the post op care. Although I have not had many surgeries in my life, I would recommend Dr. Coirin to anyone considering Bariatric surgery. He is the BEST! I can honestly say I have nothing negative to share with my 9 months of pre/post op care with Dr. Coirin or his staff.

I met Dr.Coirin at his seminar in Manteca, he comes off as a very funny guy..I then met him at my consultation, and he is a very nice man,and very informative. He sits down with you and explains in great detail the process of the surgery and different kinds of surgery. His office staff is very informative and well trained..They keep you up to date on everything that is happening with your insurance and also help you with any questions you may have.Overall Dr.Coirin and his staff deserve an A on excellence..
