Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss Bariatric Center
My first encounter with Dr. Shina was on 1/23/07 when I had my consultation and seminar. There was a room full of hopeful WLS candidates, and we listened attentively as Dr. Shina went through what surgery is all about, describing life changes, what we needed to know, and my lord I now know more about Pulmonary Embolisms than anyone I know! He spent at least 2 hours in an open discussion/lecture setting. All questions were welcome and answered. He did not seem to favor Lap-Band, but he does both surgeries. He seemed a bit harried upon first seeing him-like he had just come from the hospital perhaps? He was very thorough in is discussion, and left nothing unanswered. The one on one consult was brief, but I had a good impression overall. It did feel somewhat like we were a group of chattle being processed LOL--but I know a doctor's schedule is tight having worked with four of them in prior years. Dr. Shina stressed the importance over and over of aftercare and following Doctor's orders for success.
I went to three bariatric weight loss seminars before I decided on Dr. Shina. He did not \"sugar coat\" the surgery and was very candid about the risks and life style change. I knew immediatly he was the surgeon for me. If I could give a public announcement about the outstanding patient treatment I recieved from his staff I would do so. I truly felt like i was VIP at Norton Suburan. Everyone catered to me to insure I was very comfortibl with what ever procedure they were doing. Dr. Shina made sure I had a thourough pre-op exam. Some doctors would skip certain steps, but not Dr. Shina. I feel because of him and his wonderful staff I have the tools to begin a new and healthier lifestyle. God Bless you Dr. Shina and staff. You are a \"cut\" above the rest.
Dr. Shina was very informative. He left no stone unturned in the seminar portion of my consultation. He addressed all the risks very thoroughly and addressed every possible question in layman's terms. Dr. Shina is very straight forward and to the point but at the same time had a sense of humor that was shining through. His staff were friendly and helpful. There is an aftercare program in place that is mandatory if I read it right. I can't wait to start my life changing process with his staff and himself. I am very confident that I choose the right place to be for this surgery.
I'v only seen Dr. Shina once and my first impression was that he was very thorough. He explained the pre and post surgery details in laymans term so that everyone understood.rnHe encouraged questions and if you had questions afterwards, he welcomed calls to his office. Dr. Shina does have an aftercare program that he requires all patients to attend. I'd rather have surgical competence anyday. He had a pleasant personality at the seminar so I will have to wait and see his bedside manner.rnrnrn
Dr Shina is very stern but thorough in what he does and explains every detail of what the surgery will intail and all the changes you will need to implement to be successful. He is the perfect surgeon for before and aftercare. His competency is above board but his bedside manner at times could be more caring.
My first impression of my surgeon is that he was knowledgable and accomplished in this field. Sometimes I didn't know if he knew how to take me though. The impression didn't change over time. The office staff is competent, patient and professional. You need to explain what you want in detail so they know what answer to give you. What I liked best about Dr. Shina is that is is not condescending. Some doctors talk down to you like you do not have the intelligence to make a descision. Dr. Shina respects his patients. He does not seem to rush through the office appointments like others and he includes you in the decisions made. He addressed the risks of surgery and had a well devised plan for aftercare in place. Over all I would rate Dr. Shina as an excellent surgeon and is a credit to the hospital that he uses. Bedside manner is a bit quiet and maybe a bit too professional but overall he is a fine surgeon and I would use him again and recommend him to anyone wanting bariatric surgery.
I have met him once and that was at the seminar \"June 12th 2007\" he was very informative and explained everything in great detail and did'nt leave anything out. He was very nice and also had a good sense of humor! I can not wait until my next appointment with him, that puts me that much closer to having WLS!
