I can't say enough about Dr. Shina. He's a pretty no nonsense guy and that's what i wanted when i started this. I really appreciated him taking time to go over everything as thoroughly as he did during the initial consult. His staff and the staff at St. Catherine's is second to NONE and made me feel at ease throughout the entire process. He really took the time to make sure he did the job right and I have still never had one ounce of any type of pain from the surgery. This man is a master at his craft and I recommend him to anyone!

I really like him he is honest with you and says what he means and means what he says. He has a very professionally selected staff.rnI feel he is the best for the job.rnhe really checks on your after care and is very concerned.rnHe is just so great and I very highly recommend him to every one.

Dr. Shina and his staff have been nothing but awesome. It feels good to know that I can reach them anytime I may need something. I am confident in Dr.Shina that he will provide me with the best of care.

Dr. Shina was very upfront and informative. I think he is a good doctor. I do not interact much with his office staff. Most of the ones I talk to are nice, and helpful. The thing that I dislike the most about my doctor is that I have a hard time talking to him, or asking him questions because I do not want him to fuss at me. Dr Shina is a stickler for doing things by the book, and aftercare is important to him. Dr Shinas office does have a structured aftercare program. He addressed all of the risks associated with this surgery. He even said the \"D\" word...Yes...death. He was very upfront and I appreciated it because some patients really do not understand the seriousness of possible side effects, some short term complications, some long term complications, and permanent complications. I do not support one sided surgeons who are only telling the benefits. Beware of those people who emphasize the good and do not inform you of the possible bad things, both are important things to know when making this choice to have the procedure or not. I would rate Dr. Shina pretty highly. I am pretty satisfied with my surgery. I think his surgical competence is better than his bedside manner, because he is so serious all the time, and I am a joking type person and I do not always know what to say during appointment time. But he has done what I expected, and thus far I am pleased with my results. I would let him do the surgery again if I had it to do over again. My opinion is that I did endure some negative things, but for every negative thing I can find two positives. Everyone has to make a choice based on their own needs, and what is best for them. I am simply expressing opinions about my personal experiences.

I met Dr. Shina the first time at a weight loss seminar put on by him. He was very straight forward and spent a lot of time explaining the surgery, the complications, especially the possibility of blood clots.rnHe explained everything in detail and was VERY patient with questions from all of the attendees. I liked him from the very first and knew he would be a top surgeon and my surgeon! My impression has not changed and I am three months out. His office staff is first rate. They are very friendly and professional. The staff helped keep me on track for my insurance approval. I have been fortunate that I haven't needed to call for any questions but, I know they would be very happy to help in any way.rnDr Shina believes very much in aftercare programs. The hospital he uses is Norton Suburban and they have a wonderful support program with top notch professionals. One of the things you might not see at first is Dr Shina's sense of humor. He is a professional first but he does have a great sense of humor. Also, he will NEVER rush you. He will stay and answer all of the questions you have. rnIf you live in the Southern Indiana or Louisville, KY area please check out Dr Shina---You won't be sorry!

What can I say? He rocks! The humor is there if you search for it, but above and beyond the man knows his stuff. Isn't that the best reason to pick a surgeon?

Dr Shina is the best, I had a medication problem the other day. Two weeks before my surgery and he called himself to check to make sure I got his instructions.

A+ for first impressions. Dr. Shina is very educated and straight forward which I love. He doesn't have it in him to sugar coat the truth he just tells it like it is, which is very important to me. His staff is just as amazing as he is and very pleasant to work with through the process, they are all very polite and very helpful through the whole approval process. They definitely try their best to help their patients achieve their goals.rnrnDr. Shina is very persistent with do's and don't for before and after surgery. He makes it very clear that having bariatric surgery requires a life change, and if your not willing to make that change and stick with it don't waste your time pretty much. He stresses the aftercare and all the risks associated with the surgery which is definitely a plus. I definitely would rate him as a 10 overall. I feel he is very experianced and know's his books so to say, I would definitely recommend him to anywhere, I don't think you could be dissapointed with him.

My first impression of him was very informative and competent. After the intitial visit I received several messages from his staff to contact the office concerning the status of my insurance approval. I tried to contact several time and was told that nobody was available to speak to me. I was returning their call. I called once more after getting another message and was told AGAIN there was not anybody that could help me. I asked to speak to the office manager since this cycle of leaving me messages and me returning them to no avail continued about 5 cycles. They called me 5 times and I returned their call 5 times. Without any help any of the 5 times. Dr. Shina got on the phone and told me if I did not like the way his staff operated to find another physician. His office is not patient friendly. They do not care about customer service. The attitudes I have dealt with by returning their call is unfriendly, unprofessional, and unhelpful. If this is how they deal with you when you are doing what they ask of you and trying to become a patient- I can only imagine how they treat you after they have your money. Needless to say I would not recommend this practice.

AFTERALL WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO GET ALL THE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO LIVE YOUR NEW LIFE RIGHT AND TREAT YOUR BODY LIKE ITS A TEMPLE AND NOT THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL! AS FAR AS THE RISKS ARE CONCERNED.
