Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss Bariatric Center
I did find out today that Dr. Gandsas has moved on. What a shock!!!! I wondered if something was wrong when Tonya told me I would not be scheduled until November or
December.
So I am back to square one...
11-21-03 As you can see I have once again changed physicians. I did comply with all tests, exams, paper work, ect. This has been 4 month process. The office staff would in form that "the insurance company is requesting.." I would gather up the info, go for the test or whatever.
Today I called the office. The coordinator notr office manager were available.
I called my insurance company only to discover that I am not in the system for
consideration for this or any other procedure.
I am dumbfounded!!! I am angry. I feel very stupid for trusting what a physician's staff will follow through on. My greatest fear is that they will tell me they have
"lost" my paper work.
Does anyone know anything about Bluegrass Bariatric group?
I had already decided that if I didn't get a good vibe about the surgeon when I first met him I wouldn't do anything beyond the intial consultation. However, Dr. Shina was the perfect blend of professionalism and humor that made me feel comfortable. Every time I've seen him he has been business as usual, but I can tell that if he wasn't so busy he would probably be more talkative.
His office staff has always been very kind. When I had a problem with insurance following my surgery, his staff was very comforting and helpful. The nurses are the sweetest most calming people I have met in a doctor's office in quite sometime. The fact that Dr. Shina is affiliated with Right Weigh has been very helpful. The nutritionist, Ashley, keeps those messages flowing on the message board and she is thoroughly prepared for your questions. I don't think I would be as successful as I have been without a nutritionist. Overall Dr. Shina is an excellent surgeon who can balance professionalism with kindness. He answered all of my questions and gave me a new lease on life. I am thrilled with my decision.
my first meeting with dr. shina was good i like the straight foward honest approach he has , at the same time he showed a kindness to my feelings on a question i had and that was appericated . his seminar was informative and he took the time to make sure everything was well understood .i was concerened that maybe this was going to assembly line surgery . the staff and dr. made sure you understand AT ANY TIME YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BACK OUT OF SURGERY. i like the program provided for after care .
Dr. Shina was very blunt and detailed about the surgery, risks, and changes required for success. He demonstrated with 2-30cc cups the new size of the pouch. He almost demanded we ask questions of him. He did not sugarcoat ANYTHING! If I wasn't already prepared for what this surgery entails I might have gotten cold feet.
Bottom line Shina is direct blunt and thorough. That said he believes whole heartedly in this surgery. He wants you to succeed which is why he spends such time talking and answering questions. He does care and most of his patients I've talked say the same thing he is an angel. He will not let you fall through the cracks once you complete to this surgery.
He expects you to follow through with appointments and diets. I would recommend him to anyone who wants this surgery.
The office staff seem almost too professional. This could be from overwork but I didn't get the warm fuzzes at my initial meeting. These are just my personal impressions from my experiences and I'm making no statements about what other people may experience.
Dr. Shina is impressive. He tells the truth, answers all questions, and expects his patients to follow his orders. He covered all the risks in detail, and repeatedly. He was very specific about the surgery itself and the lifestyle changes required afterward. His approach to pain management is excellent. His staff is busy but very experienced with insurance issues and they are part of a larger program called Right Weigh. The dr. expects his patients to participate in the pre-surgery and aftercare program and followup visits will span 15 months post-op, then yearly. There are informational seminars and group consultations where lots of questions are addressed. The first meeting with him personally is very brief, but postops report they do get adequate time in the office. Waiting time for surgery date seems to be about 1 to 3 months, depending on one's health status. He does not operate on high-risk patients and expects that smokers will quit smoking beforehand, permanently.
What can I say about Dr. Shina? He is a whirlwind.
Tuesday, June 17th, I attended a seminar at Norton Suburban. After Ashley, the dietician, spoke, it was Dr. Shina’s turn. There was a short, unexplained delay. Then he walked in and immediately began telling us about the surgery. I found it amusing that he did not identify himself, but there was no question who he was.
He is definitely a take-charge type person and is very informative! Although he describes himself as long-winded, he gave a lot of information in a short time. He answered all questions that were asked and was quite thorough. Then in my one-on-one consultation with him, he asked several times if I had any more questions. Don’t be afraid to ask. He wants you to be informed and to be confident that this is what you want. Call a couple of weeks in advance so you can schedule an appointment with him immediately following the seminar.
I am quite confident in his abilities and am glad to have chosen him as my surgeon.
Some advice to others: DON’T BE LATE (you may be turned away) and BE SURE TO HAVE ALL OF YOUR PAPERWORK COMPLETED BEFORE YOU GET THERE!!
I rate Dr. Shina and his staff a strong ‘9’.
Dr. shina is very informative with this surgery.Very very thorough about it like it when he says asks as many questions you can think of .And him and his staff go out of their way to answer them.He is very compassionate in to making sure you get the best care.He is very forward and doesn't leave nothing out.Which is what i like .Overall i give him and his office staff on a scale of one to ten an 8.
I noticed at the bottom of this page it stated that a 100% rating of a doctor was suspect and could be harmful.SORRY...
What can I say about Dr. Shina? He is one of the most compassionate persons I have ever met. You know when you have had the surgery that you are in the best hands possible. Dr Shina is very passionate and so knowledgeable about this weight loss plan and he seems to get such pleasure from a patient doing well. Thank God and country that we have doctors like Dr. Shina. Dr. Shina's office staff at Louisville and Jeffersontown are wonderful. All the ladies talked to me as if we were best friends. I had read in another wls peer's opinion of Dr.Shina's staff, Glenna was criticised as being unfriendly and nasty with this person. I have never met that Glenna. The Glenna I know is very nice and oh so helpful. Dr.Shina's wife is also his nurse and she is so sweet.
Aftercare is so important and I feel i can count on this staff to follow up on any problems I may have.
Dr. Shina's rating? Well if I were to rate him between 1 and 10 with 10 being the best I would have to say a.......20.
Surgical competence.........20
Bedside manner..............20
If I had it to do all over again I wouldn't do anything different!
