I was very impressed with Dr. Burrowes. He's very professional, curteous, sensitive, direct, and informative. He's not one for much small talk and he takes his job seriously. The office staff is pretty good, yet a bit overworked. Sometimes you may have to call twice regarding paperwork. He emphasizes support group meetings, nutritionist, and he works closely with a personal trainer. He has great bedside manner. I would rate him an 11 out of 10...superior!
The entire process was positive and I would not trust anyone else. He is very to the point which I like. He has a great office staff to back him up, considering the amount of patients they handle. They are very spiritual and that was a plus for me. I didn't have a bad experience at all. I never had a day of vomiting or sickness. I followed instructions and really probably should have got a little resistance because I recently slowed down my loss by not adding physical activity.
I have not followed up for a long time and need to and will do so soon.But all the risks and side effects were explained but I did my own research as well. I didn't have anyone to contact me from the support group. But that wasn't their fault all together. I rate him a 9 on a scale of 10. His surgical competence is better than his bedside. He's not a talker, but if you ask him he gives good understanding of questions. But he had another doctor on staff that filled in with good bedside.
Dr. Burrowes impressed me immediately. He appears to be a reserved, professional, gentleman. He was very serious in his demeanor but when I asked him if he ever smiled, he smiled in a way that made me know of his compassion. He was very candid about the serious nature of this surgery - and had little patience for my jokes (which I truly appreciated).
His staff is very nice. I especially like Monica. She is a tough lady, but as with Dr. Burrowes, there appears to be a sweet, compassionate spirit beneath the ultra professional veneer. I would recommend calling regularly to ensure that they contact the insurance company as quickly as possible.
Awesome dr very open and honest and caring of his patients. the staff is great and friendly, very helpful. he is very concerned with you and your aftercare. he definitely warns you fo the risk and importance that this is a tool not a miracle cure. surgical competence he has learned from the man himself dr. fobi.
I had a consultation with Dr. Burrowes on May 12, 2004 and was very impressed. He spent a great deal of time talking with me about the different types of surgery,what to expect,etc. He seems very competent and his office staff was very nice. He really prefers the fobi pouch operation,but understood when I told him I would only be able to have the standard roux en y gastric bypass that my insurance covers.(The fobi pouch is an additional $4,000 out of pocket, which I just can't afford.)He requires you to attend at least 2 support group meetings prior to surgery, which I think is good,also.
I'm planning to go ahead and let him do my surgery as soon as we can obtain insurance approval.
I was referred to Dr. Burrowes by my PCP. My PCP had previously referred other patients to him and spoke very highly of him. My first impression was a good one. He was very knowledgeable and was very direct about the certain risks I would be facing. I really don't have anything negative to say regarding him. The office staff, I think, is wonderful. I have had a good experience so far with Catherine(the head nurse) and Monica(the office manager.) We haven't gotten to surgery yet so I can't really say much about the aftercare or aftercare programs, but I'm sure it will be fine. Dr. Burrowes and his office staff do however stress getting hooked up with a support team and how important that is in this type of adventure.
Very pleased with Dr. Burrowes , seems very knowledgable , and very to the point ,, staff is freindly and helpful .
I will say that the first visit with him was very surprising. I have never had a Dr. to ever sit down to just talk to me. The entire staff was very courteous and there is nothing bad that I can say about my visit. He told me what to expect and to please be sure that this was what I wanted to do. To know that this is a tool and to use it wisely.
Dr. Burrowes office was emaculate, and the staff was superb, and Dr. Burrowes was present to meet with me and I was able to ask him the questions that concerned me and he gave me understanding about the surgery that I has not read in any of my researches and he helped be to be certain which one I felt more comfortable having to assure the best result. He had nothing to say negative about other doctors that perform the surgery. He was confidant about his work and his expectations to the surgery he performs.
