Atrium Health Bariatric Center
Dr. Bauman and his staff were wonderful. When going in to talk to him it was very nice to be there almost alone, it make the visit much more comfortable when you aren't sitting in a waiting room with 20 other people. Dr. Bauman struck me as a very competent and well informed surgeon. The program that Dr. Bauman puts his patients through covers all bases and makes sure that the patient is truly suitable for surgery. The aftercare program seems to be the same as is contains regular visits with Dr. Bauman and required monthly visits with the nutritionists. Dr. Bauman is a very popular surgeon in this area and I have heard and experienced nothing but positive results regarding him and his practice.
I have met with Dr. Bauman one time so far. The consult visit.
Being a red-head I noticed his right off too..lol.
Dr. Bauman was direct, no-nonsense in his information about the GBS both good and bad. He answered all the questions I had at the time, rather patiently too I might add. After reading 100's of posts I can say he touched on about every subject of concern I have read about so far. Just wait til he gets my next list of questions..lol
Over all..meeting Dr Bauman for a brief time gave me confidence in his ability to do this surgery for me.
Office Staff: They were very friendly ..willing to answer questions and offer a laugh or two along the way.
Will offer more as time goes on ...
I looked at Dr. Bauman and I knew right then that he was going to play. I was a smoker and he looked at me and told me that if i wated to have this surgery I would have to stop smoking , because he would not touch me at all untill i have stoped for 3 months.. Well, from that day i knew that i had to be true to my self if i wanted this...
I would tell anyone that if they wanted to meet a great doctor and was thinking about haveing this surgery done I would go see Dr. Roc Bauman..
Very through. Won't do surgery unless all is well with patient. The second time I met him , he seemed more real and I liked him. His office staff was very nice and very helpful every time I called. I liked everything about him. Can't say anything I didn't like. Don't go to him unless you are committed to doing what he tells you you shoukld do. He doesn't discuss aftercare with you much until after surgery and then he is very thorough. Yes he is very structured. He has support groups and his staff is available to you almost all the time if you need anything. The risks of surgery are fully discussed ahead of time. Overall I woukd rate him a 10 out of 10.Both surgical competence and bed side manner are equally great.
Dr. Gersin and his staff were very pleasant and helpful. They took the time to answer any questions I had. I met with several people in the office including the insurance coordinator. They addressed all aspects of surgery and explained in detail the procedure and hospital stay. They explained the surgical risks and addressed any other concerns I had without reservation. Overall I am very happy with my surgeon so far. The program with UC bariatric surgeons did require a $500 program fee up front along with any co pay you might have for seeing the physician so don't walk in there without being prepared to pay the full amount or you may have to reschedule your appointment.
I was very impressed with Dr. Bauman. I was refered to him by a good friend of mine and I thought he was excellent. Very honest and very detailed. I liked that fact that he was also VERY strict about his program. His staff was also very knowledgable and extremely helpful. I have yet to say anything bad about he and his staff to be perfectly honest wth you.
I met Dr. Gersin in Oct. 03. I was impressed with both he and his fellow, Dr. Selwayn. I didn't find Dr. Gersin to be overly friendly but he was nice enough and left me with the impression I would be in good hands. Both Doctors more than adequately described the potential risks involved in the surgery.
1/18/04 : 8 mos. Post OP
My impressions of Dr. Gersin is the same. HE is an AMAZING surgeon but lacks a little in bed side manor. He didn't have a lot of sympathy for the amount of pain I was in while I was in the hospital and was a little abrupt when I was feeling at my lowest. But Dr. Selwayn made up for what Dr. G lacked. The office staff ,especially Anne, was amazing. Especially right after the surgery when I had so many questions about how I was feeling.
Anyone looking for a GREAT Bariatric Surgeon need look no further. I can't recommend this doctor enough. I have had no complications and have lost 130lbs after 8mos. !!!
My first impression of Dr Gersin was of a surgeon who thoroughly cared about his patients but had a no nonsense attitude and got right down to business. My lasting impression has only gotten better with witnessing the kind hearted, caring man that he is behind that surgeons mask. Dr. Selwyn was his assistant that day and I can only say the same about him. Their office PA, Anne, is equally wonderful and very supportive. I am always treated like I am part of a bigger picture and in a way, a part of a team... I am the recipient of it all! In the beginning I was also treated with dignity and that meant SOO much to me because when heavy, one does not always get treated the best. There is a big emphasis on aftercare with this group. Like I said, it is a team effort with all players and they even learn from US on different things. I was given so much information on the surgery and the risks involved and was needed to be done with my 'life change' after the fact. I do not have anything negative to say about my surgeon or the staff, I have had a very wonderful experience with that aspect. I have worked in the medical field for surgeons before and have seen other sides of things so I am truely speaking from the heart on this. I would highly recommend Dr Gersin and Dr Selwyn as bariatric surgeons, and quite frankly, I do!!
