I chose Dr. Sherer because of the fact that he was willing to do my surgery without a blood transfusion in case I lost blood during the surgery. Because I am one of one of Jehovah's Witnesses, it was very important to find a surgeon that would work with me in this decision.I also liked the fact that he used Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, AL. which has a bloodless surgery program. My husband and I were very pleased with Dr. Sherer. He was very kind and patient and took plenty time with us answering all of our questions.
His staff was very nice and Evelyn was great about answering all my emails very quickly. I was disapointed that it took so long to get an appointment and to get my surgery scheduled, but thats because I'm so anxious to get the surgery done. The long wait just proves that a lot of people are using Dr. Sherer and I know he will be worth the wait.
I would rate Dr. Sherer very high at this point. I'm certain that I will have more of an opinion after my surgery. At this point, I have only had my initial appointment and have a surgery date of Aug.4, 2004 scheduled. I have total confidence in Dr. Sherer. He was good at explaining the risks of surgery as well as the risks of living a life being overweight. I'll update more on Dr. Sherer after the surgery.

I found Dr. Stahl to be very proficient. He doesn't have the best bedside manner but I chose him for his expertise. I work at the hospital where his group does some of it's surgeries and liked the outcomes I saw with his patients. This practice doesn't really offer any structured aftercare other than the visits for B12. I guess the thing I didn't like is that when I questioned him about the problems I had the first week with elevated HR and BP he seemed to wave it off and tell me if I continued to have problems to see my PCP. I would definitely recommend him because he is good but realize that support after surgery is minimal.

My first impression of Dr Sherer was that he was friendly, professional, forthcoming with information and a man who believes in God. I already knew that he had excellent credentials, (Harvard Medical School), and a reputation for excellent outcomes for his patients (as is the case with the whole group of surgeons that he is with), but his smile and demeanor put me at ease right away. His staff has always been very nice, professional and helpful over the phone at in person. Dr Sherer took the time to personally make a DVD recording reviewing the surgery, some of the physical and psychological profiles of WSL patients, open vs laproscopic surgical approaches and the differing pros and cons, and the risks and benefits of the surgery. My experience so far has been very good and I would be happy to recommend he and his office to potential patients.

Dr. Sherer was an extremely nice person and I felt comfortable with him. His office nurse & other staff members were friendly and accomodating. He said I wasn't really that big...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I wanted to choke him. But since I qualified for the surgery he assured me that he was going to do it. Ha, I already knew that. My precious husband interrupted and told Dr. Sherer how much I disliked myself the way I am now and Dr. Sherer explained that his comment was meant to let me know that there are people in this world much heavier than I am. That is true, but I am so tired of being tired all the time and having so much wrong with me. I won't to be able to get out in the yard and play with my dog again and my g'children and not have to stop playing after 5 to 10 minutes. He was very informative about the surgery. He is a God-fearing man and told my husband and myself that neither himself or I would be in our own hands that we would be in the good Lord's hands. My husband was thrilled to hear that. The risks of surgery were explained in detail as well as the hospital stay. I meet with the nurse on 28May and I am sure I will be discussing all other aspects of the surgery and post-op then. I would give Dr. Sherer a great big 10. I think surgical competence is most important and bedside manner right next in line. But a God-fearing man is going to do great at both. The day we met with him he made us feel quite comfortable.

Dr Stahl was very professional and pleasant. He explained everything very well including the risks and what I could expect from surgery but did not give me unrealistic expectations of what the surgery could and could not do for me. His office staff was very nice and have always answered my questions. Evelyn has been great about getting my appointment time moved up as soon as there was a cancellation. I have heard wonderful things about this group from the people I work with at the hospital and all my expecatations were met and exceeded. I would recomend this group to anyone considering bariatic surgery. To people like myself who thought there was no hope of loosing the large amount of weight I have to loose, it is great to know there are still options in bariatic surgery

Dr. Stahl was very professional. He answered all my questions and concerns thoroughly.
His office staff is great. They were always friendly and smiling. They also answered all my questions and concerns with patience and understanding.
Before surgery I was well aware of all the benefits and risks associated with this surgery. Dr. Stahl and his staff ensure this.
I also was pleased that he told me at any time I felt uneasy about the procedure we would reschedule it, even if I was lying on the table about to be put under anesthesia. He wanted me to be absolutely sure and ready.
Do realize after surgery you will see his assistant unless there is complications. That is fine also because she is very professional and nice as well.
