Cahaba Valley Surgical Group, PC Bariatric Center
Dr. Rex Sherer was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He was careing and honest and puts his trust in the Lord. I was very grateful that he shared this with me, because A lot of doctors I have know seem to think they are it and some think they know it all and can do no wrong. Dr. Sherer was up front and his whole attitude was just so awesome. He is the kind of person you meet and would love to get to know more about, you know to be friends with such a person, there was such a complete humbleness about him. He has such a sweet spirit about him, I felt very safe.
I really like Dr. Stahl at first I was a little out off. My first visit I was in a room with about five other oeople and I me one of his associates. Later I met Dr. Stahl he wasn't very nice, or I should say he was very straigh up he answered all my questions straight forward and he was was very knowldegable. As it got closer to my surgery his nurses and staff anwswered all my questios and helped me. Latley I have a question everyday it seems and they al help me, I have not have not had any complications and have been moving along fine. Dr. Stahl is a great Dr.
I had a good first impression of Dr. Stahl. He came to me with a high recommendation. He was very professional. His office and staff were also professional. The staff was helpful and courteous. The follow-ups that I have had were pleasant. He answered all of my questions without rushing me or making me feel like I was imposing on his time. He gave me all the necessary information for eating and exercise after the surgery. He and his staff have made it clear that I can call them at any time with questions or concerns that I may have about my progress, eating habits, physical changes, etc. He has a schedule for after care check-ups. He emphasized the importance of keeping the check-ups current. The risks of the surgery were included in pre-consultation literature. He also covered them in the initial consultation. He was not the type to pump you up or to cozy up to you like your best buddy. If you're looking for that in a doctor, this may not be the one for you. However, I have been extremely satisfied with the care that I received from Dr. Stahl and his staff.
My first impression was that he was a very jittery man, however I was at ease with him and able to talk matter of factly. Dr. Sherer is refreshingly candid about his christianity and that was a huge bonus for me. The office3 staff is very helpful and considerate. They explained all of the risks and did a good job of informing me of all possible complications. I would rate the Alabaster staff at a 10. They dont come much better in my opinion.
I really liked Dr. Sherer. He is very up front and straight forward about this surgery. He is also a religious man. He said that he would do everything in his power to insure a successfull surgery, but that ultimately everything was in the hands of God. I really haven't had much dealings with his office staff other than phone calls, but they seem to be very nice. Overall I give Dr. Sherer very high marks and I am pleased I chose him as my surgeon.
Let me tell you a little about Dr Sherer. He is straight-forward, to the point, polite, and very caring. He told me that I was a good candidate for the surgery, but he also said that the surgery is just one tool, and that there had to be other tools that go along with it to make the lifestyle change that needed to be made. He was right!
He didn't beat around the bush about the risks of the surgery, and told me straight out that if he had to cut me (while I was undergoing the laproscopic procedure) that he would. I agreed!
He took an entire 4 hours to finish the surgery, just to make sure that everything was right.
I researched surgeons for over 2 years prior to having this done. The Cahaba Valley Surgical Group is second to none, with Dr. Sherer at the top of the heap.
Thank you Dr. Sherer. You are truly a kind Doctor.
First impression was that he was compassionate, my impression stayed the same throughout.
Staff is very nice, and knows exactly what they are doing.
Least liked the fact that there is no real relationship building....it seemed like you meet him once, get the approval and then you are in for surgery.
He really emphasizes aftercare, and gives some resources, but they don't have a structured aftercare program.
He was very blunt about the risks of surgery which I liked because I wanted to know everything beforehand.
I would rate him as excellent!
I think both.
Haven't met him yet, just heard lots of great things about him from his patients.
Had some dealings with his staff this week. They were great! I learned my insurance is cutting their coverage for WLS as of Jan 1, 2004, and started calling every day to check for cancellations. The third call got me a new appointment! They were great about being pestered. I just explained I would check in with them every day and they were even cheerful about it. I really appreciate their understanding attitudes. This is such a stressful process, that kind of attitude really helps.
Met Dr. Stahl today. He was great! I'd heard from this site that he would take time for my questions, but I'm so used to doctors brushing me off on the subject of my weight that it felt odd to have a doc sit down and talk things through so thoroughly and listen to my questions and concerns with respect. I'm sold on him. I already knew his record, now I feel great about him as a person. It's important to be comfortable with the person who will be doing such extreme things to your insides.
Big hugs for Suzy at Dr. Stahl's office! She was great throughout the application process. Always courteous and helpful and even cheerful. My last papers got faxed to her late on Thursday. I called Friday and she checked that they were there, and mailed them on Monday. I got approved the next Thursday and got my date! Wow! I've seen so much about people having to phone the insurance company constantly I was all set for a couple of weeks of waiting at least.
Post-op now (lap RNY), and Dr. Stahl does great work! I had no complications, no problems, and almost no pain. Incisions nice and neat and healing beautifully. I had some confusion about when I should start eating pureed foods, but that was really me being a little nervous and not registering directions in my last pre-op and at the hospital. I was given a list, just wasn't sure I could really have all that stuff in my first 2 or 3 days post-op. I'd rate Dr. Stahl's surgical competence as outstanding and his bedside manner the same. People keep saying I don't look like I just had major surgery, even Dr. Stahl. That may be partly due to a strong basic state of health despite the MO, but his skill has to take part of the credit as well. He obviously did what he had to do with the minimum of shock to my body, and I'm reaping the benefits!
My first impression of him, He was nice he answered all my questions, was not in a rush, after the surgery he continued to seem concerned not in a rush, I highly recommend him,All of his staff were very nice to me The hospital staff was all very good to me at the Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.
