Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Bariatric Center
Dr. Jones is a funny, witty guy who also knows what he is doing! As I get to know him better I really understand that he does care about his patients. He relys alot on his team most of which I like, some of which I do not. However he uses the latest technology, makes you feel safe and with your own personal accountability gives you the tools you need to succeed. I had some challenges during surgery and it took longer -- I really appreciate his dedication and skill.
Dr Jones is personable, friendly and takes all the time you need to cover questions and worries. He and his team are thorough and take the time to know their patients and make sure that you totally understand everything about the surgery, risks, benefits and after care. He is an expert in his field and it shows. he handled some complications very well. he also took the time to talk at length with my family. I trust him completely. His staff is great too. Angie, his nurse is wonderful, as is Kathy, the nutitionist. Even his team of residents are good. I felt very safe in Dr Jones care. The team emphasizes after care and there is good follow-up. I would recommend Dr Jones and his bariatric program to anyone, and as a former lifelong nurse, I'm pretty discerning and objective.
'What can one say about Dr. Jones... Every time you see him he has a smile on his face and a hand readily extended to shake yours. He truly seems to care about you as a person and not only as another surgery to perform. I have not experienced his bedside manner but have heard wonderful things about him. rnrnDr. Jone's staff are all wonderful. Even on a bad day they are full of smiles and make you feel like they really care about you and your journey.rnrnDr. Jones described the importance of sticking with the after care program and risks of the surgery openly and honestly including talking about a patient who passed away. This was done at every juncture. I never felt that there was anything being hidden or covered up
I met Dr. Jones at my first info meeting and instantly liked him. He seemed down to earth and extremely competent if not a tad bit serious. I have finished all of the testing and have a surgery date of 9/12/5 but I had to have my gallbladder out first..When I talked with Dr. Jones in pre-op I noticed something about him that you don't see in the office or meetings - He really loves what he does.
Gallbladder surgery - My surgery was pushed back in the day due to his first patient being a bit more involved than anticipated. Instead of Dr. Jones appearing tired and worn out it was just the opposite - he was raring to go. He has always been informative, compassionate, and very knowledgeable but to see that he also truly enjoys his job (which is rare no matter what you do) makes him amazing.
Lap-Band surgery - Once again Dr. Jones has done a stellar job. As of day 6 I feel like my self again.
I would recommend Dr. Jones to anyone and everyone and I am so glad that I found him!
On the tech side:
Office staff: Awesome - Angi and Debbie are the best. The whole bariatric team is great!
Aftercare - big into aftercare you get a 1 year schedule and your fist appointment is made before surgery.
Risks - very up front about all risks
Rate - A+
The first time I met Dr Jones was at a support group meeting. He was extremely friendly and easy to talk to. He didn't sugar coat anything and was very up front regarding any questions any one had. His office staff is top notch. Each and everyone that I had dealings with were very professional and easy to talk to. Angie his nurse had lap band and she is such an asset to his staff. He is very strict about loosing the 10lbs before surgery because it makes the liver smaller and that makes a safer operation. He also is very strict with after care and has you sign a contract committing to showing up for all post op appointments. I found Dr Jones and his assistant Dr Edwards to be very caring and attentive to their patient's needs. I would recommend him to anyone who asks.
I really liked Dr. Jones from the first day i met him. I instantly felt comfortable and trusted him. He addressed all the risks up front and did not dismiss my fears. He is extremely layed back yet very professional in his bedside manner. He kept my family updated on my condition immediatley after surgery and he came to see me twice that day. I would highly recommend Dr. Jones and his team to anyone considering WLS in the Boston area.
Bedside manner... very poor
His lack of follow up with aftercare and overseeing care in hospital was also
VERY POOR.. I had a serious medical error happen after surgery and in my opionion he did not organize appropriate follow up care.
He could not show up for my first post-of visit and did not call to ask if this was
ok with me. I did not feel that was good
pt care.
His office staff were good, his nurse (Angi) was very good.
The office team emphasized aftercare, the doctor did not.
Him and his partner did address the basic risks of surgery, he did not inform us that he had recently lost a pt. I feel that this information should be included in these pre-op getting to know the surgeons.
Surgical competence in regards to lap band, would be good; with any other type of medical emergency... extremely poor in my experience.

I liked Dr Jones, Staff very helpful and joked alot with me making me feel at ease. I would call every week to see if I had a better reason than the week before to get my date before I finished their Pre date stuff!!
Dr Jones himself is very knowlegeble about the procedure and really gives you alot of information so you may make a good choice.
At first I HATED all the pre testing stuff I just wanted a date!! And when a friend recomended another program that wouldnt require me to go through all the pre appointments i almost switched! Then i realized maybe time is needed and 3 months really isnt that long, now is it?
I havent had my surgery yet but will answer more when I am back home my dat is 7/11
